2000 B5 Audi S4, 6 Sp. Manual, Imola Yellow W/black on 2040-cars
Elkridge, Maryland, United States
In 2000 or '01 with +- 4500 miles the car was damaged in the rear and driver's side. It was sent to a body shop for estimate and the body shop totaled the car. The bod shop owner recognized it was all sheet metal damage and bought the salvage intending to repair it for himself. It sat in the back of his shop for a decade under a tarp. A couple years ago, the shop owner was preparing to retire and offered to repair the car for my cousin's husband (himself a mechanic). There was a list of finishing details left to do, but the car was on the road. My cousin drove it on occasion for a couple years, but usually opted for her SUV - she lives in the mountains and 20 miles of dirt and gravel roads daily would do the car no good. Now she's moving, and doesn't want to deal with the car ... so she sold it to me. I've been working on the car a bit at a time, but as the song goes, this car needs a younger man. I have yet to fix the L Ft headlamp (needs bulb & ballast (I have them), the horn (inop), the ck engine light (intake leaks), and the airbag light ( code says impact sensor open). That will get it through Md state inspection. That should confirm it's a drivable car. I also want to get an alignment print out. It tracks perfectly true, but the Driver's door doesn't shut right and the shop inspection noted that a used rear sub frame and R diff are fitted and the R sub frame bolts are tweaked. (should have been put on a frame machine?) I would like to confirm the alignment is in spec. Here's a walk around of the car in annoying detail : Ft bumper clear coat peeling @ top center No ft tag bracket installed (I have new bracket - no holes in ft fillet) No ft L fender liner installed Driver's door mis-aligned (closes and latches, no air or water leaks, paint flaked from distorted top hinge, uneven gap, un addresses crash damage) small crease/dent on driver's C pillar Spot of peeled clear coat on top of the trunk lid R sub frame & rear diff appear older than the rest of the car (r sub frame bolts mis aligned Bushing noise from rt ft AND THE INTERIOR: Info display in cluster faded Ck engine light on (diagnosed as intake leaks both banks) Air bag light on (diagnosed as open to 1 impact sensor) Steering wheel appears older than the car, great condition, slight ding on badge Ft seats appear older than the car, great condition, but appear to have been swapped, odd finish on pass seat bottom Driver's door inner latch has slack, sometimes doesn't release door latch Clear coat peeling on door guard molding Tie down eyes removed from trunk floor Little storage box missing from pass inner trunk wall Lock pump runs excessively long, rear doors do not lock/unlock with power locks Back edge of package shelf mis-aligned Rear window has annoying tint Pass rear shelf speaker fuzzy (I have a spare correct speaker) Pass rear door spkr grill broken, speaker fuzzy, ( I have a whole spare door panel w/bose spkr grill and also separately another correct speaker) Original stereo sounds fuzzy (even at very low volume, both radio and CD) only when it's damp/rainy ??? clears up when it's dry (cowl drains are clear, possible issue with amp??? you got me) Virtually no radio reception AM or FM (antenna booster?) UNDER THE HOOD: Cowl drain was clogged, flooded (I cleared it and treated the area with WD) Needs brake fluid flush & bleed Prob needs eng air & pollen fltrs PLUSSES: Runs perfectly, starts normally timing belt inspected and confirmed healthy Brand new Conti DWS 18" Tires 18" Audi accessory BBS's has not been performance chipped or abused - absolutely stock engine and, oh yeah, UNDER 7000 ORIGINAL MILES ! The car needs some TLC but looks good, runs perfectly, tracks straight, and for the right person has show car potential. At this moment it has 6200 - HUNDRED, not thousand - original miles. It must be the lowest mileage B5 S4 in the country if not anywhere. I'll soon post a load more photos and info. Anybody interested??? |

Next-gen Audi R8 E-Tron could have 280-mile range
Fri, Feb 27 2015Will the next hypermiling contest take place between the latest iteration of the Audi R8 E-Tron and a Tesla Model S. On paper, the single-charge range between the high- and higher-end EVs are nearly identical, so it's possible. But what fun would that be, using light pedal foot and all? Audi has released the latest specs for the R8 E-Tron, and they are just beastly. The EV will deliver 456 horsepower, have 679 pound-feet of torque and will be able to jet from 0 to 60 miles per hour in less than four seconds. More stunningly, the car will have a single-charge range of 280 miles, which is about 15 miles longer than the Model S's range. Audi says the new, long-distance pack is due to " new battery cells," but declined to go into detail. Despite the excellent numbers, not everyone thinks a new R8 E-Tron poses any threat to Tesla. Prices for the "base" version of the R8 with a gas-powered V10 engine start at 165,000 euros ($185,000), and there's no guessing yet what an EV version will cost. Whatever it is, the car's been markedly improved compared to the earlier iterations. We reported on progress of the new R8 E-Tron about a year ago that the single-charge range would climb to about 250 miles, and that the mill would deliver about 376 horsepower. Audi first showed off a concept version of the car at 2009's Frankfurt Auto Show, saying at the time that the model had a single-charge range of about 150 miles. So this is good progress. Check out Audi's rather lengthy press release below. Audi presents the new R8: The sporty spearhead just got even sharper The second generation of the high-performance sports car makes its debut in Geneva 5.2 FSI engine with up to 449 kW (610 hp), 0 to 100 km/h (62.1 mph) in 3.2 seconds New multimaterial Audi Space Frame with high proportions of aluminum and CFRP No model with the four rings is closer to motorsport, none is more striking and more dynamic: at the Geneva Motor Show, Audi is presenting the second generation of its high-performance R8 sports car. The V10 mid-engine and a newly developed quattro drive ensure breathtaking driving performance, especially in the top-of-the-range version with 449 kW (610 hp): achieving 0 to 100 km/h (62.1 mph) in just 3.2 seconds, its top speed is 330 km/h (205.1 mph).
2019 BMW X7 vs luxury SUV rivals: Comparing specs and photos
Wed, Oct 17 2018Today we get our first-ever look at the first-ever 2019 BMW X7 crossover. We've actually already had our first-ever drive in an X7 Prototype. And so, we thought it appropriate to follow that up today with the first-ever X7 comparison of specs between BMW's first-ever three-row crossover with legitimate room for seven and its many high-dollar competitors. On paper, the 2019 X7 definitely seems to most closely align with the Mercedes-Benz GLS-Class. Their similar dimensions, interior space, engine choices and price would certainly imply where BMW placed the target when developing X7. We used those same elements to determine three-row vehicles likely to be cross-shopped or that should be cross-shopped. These include the Audi Q7, Land Rover Discovery, Volvo XC90 and Lincoln Navigator. Yes, the latter is a truck-based SUV as opposed to a crossover, but tell that to all the people lining out the door at the local Lincoln emporium. They do not care, and neither shall we. We also included the 2019 BMW X5, which was completely redesigned for this year and therefore not the first-ever. That makes it less appealing? Either way, lining the new X5 up with the SUV that leapfrogs it atop BMW's SUV hierarchy should provide a good idea of just how much more you get by going up a model number. Engines and model lineup Again, the X7 aligns closest with the GLS, offering a base six-cylinder in its xDrive40i model and an upgrade turbo V8 in the xDrive50i. The Mercedes engines have greater output, but the GLS still accelerates slower than the BMW. As the 2019 X5 offers the exact same engines, we would also expect the X7's fuel economy to be superior to the GLS once its estimates are announced. It should be noted, though, that the GLS offers a high-powered AMG model whereas we anticipate the X7 to offer a plug-in hybrid model comparable to the X5 upcoming xDrive45e model. The other luxury SUVs diverge in their engine choices and model lineup. The Audi Q7 offers a base turbocharged four-cylinder, as does the Volvo XC90 in its T5 model, which we left out of the above chart entirely for space reasons. That the Q7 3.0 TFSI supercharged V6 gets the same fuel economy estimates as the four-cylinder is proof positive that engine is purely around for its lower base price.
Audi builds 5-millionth vehicle with Quattro
Mon, 25 Feb 2013Quattro, the trademark name Audi has put on its all-wheel-drive system engineered for passenger vehicles, recently celebrated its five-millionth installation. The driveline has been offered in more than 140 different vehicles since its introduction more than three decades ago.
The all-wheel-drive technology made its world debut at the 1980 International Geneva Motor Show, beneath the floorpan of the Quattro Coupé, a low-volume two-door. It didn't take consumers long to embrace Audi's innovative approach. While most four-wheel-drive systems at that time utilized heavy transfer cases or second cardan shafts, Quattro was virtually tension-free, light, compact and efficient. Most importantly, enthusiasts found it was especially suitable for sports cars.
Today, the automaker offers Quattro on its full line of passenger vehicles and it is unquestionably successful (the technology enjoyed a 43 percent take rate in 2012). On models with transverse-mounted engines (A3 and TT), Audi uses an electronically controlled multi-plate clutch with hydraulic actuator. Under normal conditions, the clutch sends power almost exclusively to the front wheels (if wheel slippage occurs, up to 100 percent of the torque may be sent to the rear). Vehicles with transverse-mounted engines (A4, A5, Q5, etc...) use a self-locking center differential sending 40 percent of the engine torque to the front axle and 60 percent to the rear under normal conditions (it is able to send the majority of the power to the axle with better traction when needed). The highest-performing Quattro systems use torque vectoring to further improve cornering grip and speeds.
