***Not currently running, needs new timing belt tensioner***
I have loved my Audi for the last 4 years but it is time to say goodbye. Over the years it has been a ton of fun to drive until a few weeks ago when it did not start one morning. The mechanic replaced the engine speed sensor first and then found the reason why it won't start... a bad timing belt tensioner. The timing belt was replaced about 60 k miles ago and did not break, but without enough pressure from the tensioner, the timing belt can't work properly and the engine won't start. Because this happened in the driveway with the vehicle stopped instead of on the freeway, and because the timing belt isn't broken, the mechanic said there should be no damage to the engine valves etc. This mechanic has 30 years experience and specializes in Audi repair so he is convinced that the timing belt is the problem, but since I am not a mechanic myself, I can not guarantee that repairing the timing belt will make it start. All I know is it was running well when I pulled into the driveway afer work one day, then wouldn't start the next morning. The estimated repair for the timing belt is about $1000 so I decided to sell it without the repair. This car is still worth a lot. It has a clean title, which I have in hand. If you were to buy this car for $1500 and spend $1000 repairing it, you would still be spending only $2500 for luxury sports sedan with a list price of $71000 and an NADA retail book value of $4100.
There are a lot of things to love about the A8. The 4.2 L V8 engine gives you 300 HP while giving great gas mileage (I average 19 mpg in town and 23 mpg on the highway). It gives you an amazing smooth, quiet ride when you want it and takes the curves beautifully in the canyons. You'll never have a problem getting around town in the snow or up to the ski slopes with the Audi all wheel drive. I love the sound system and everyone in the family loves the heated leather seats in front and back. It has the darkest legal tint on the front and rear windows. This car has the cold weather package, the warm weather package (a solar panel in the sunroof powers a fan that circulates fresh air into the car while it is parked), HID headlights, and 17 inch alloy wheels. The best part about this car? It has been cared for and maintained throughout its lifetime. It was in perfect condition when I bought it and I have always kept it clean and properly maintained. It has never been owned by a smoker. You'll be amazed at the condition of this 15 year old car.
Recent repairs and maintenance includes the following:
Battery replaced one month ago.
Completely rebuilt transmission 2 years ago at 178,000 miles, a $3500 repair that will last the lifetime of the car.
Here are the things I know that are not perfect. Most critical is that it needs a timing belt replacement, won't start because of this. Sunroof and cruise control not working, never had it evaluated. The 6-disc CD changer in the trunk has never worked for me, never had it evaluated (I use my MP3 player or phone connected through the tape deck). Tires are in fair condition, need to be replaced within about 6 months. Has a slow oil leak which requires me to add a quart every 2 months. The front bumper caught on a curb while backing out of a parking spot and pulled off, breaking off the headlight washers and causing a break in the plastic on the driver's side of the front bumper (see photos). Remainder of the body panels are in great condition with no dents. Everything else works great. Red LED lights in the display are perfect with no missing pixels.

Overnight action from the 24 Hours of Le Mans
Sun, 23 Jun 2013We won't go into a recap here, but there are still leading positions being fought for in all classes - it's so close that leads are changing when a car goes into the pits. We'll let the recap wait until the end of the race, so for now enjoy some shots from last night's action at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
Audi to enter third R18 following Loic Duval's huge crash
Thu, 12 Jun 2014When we saw the picture above yesterday, our first thought went to driver Loic Duval. After hearing that he, miraculously, walked away from the annihilated heap that had been the number one Audi R18 e-tron Quattro, our next thought went Audi's hopes in this year's 24 Hours of Le Mans. With the race kicking off on Saturday, we couldn't be sure if the team would run a two-car effort (that would put them on even footing with the two-car teams of Porsche and Toyota), attempt to rebuild the decimated racer or bring in a new tub and start from scratch.
Turns out, Audi opted for door number three, importing an all-new chassis to replace the destroyed R18. According to Audi, the team pulled an all-nighter to ready the new car in time for scrutineering and the second round of qualifying.

Audi recalls 2013-2014 S6 and S7 models over fuel line leak
Mon, 28 Oct 2013If you've been driving a late model Audi S6 or S7, first of all, good for you. Secondly, you should be expecting a call from your local dealer as the Volkswagen Group and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration have issued a recall.
The problem apparently involves a potential leak in the fuel line, which, as any mechanic or McGuyver fan could tell you, is not such a good thing. As NHTSA points out, it "may result in a fire."
The recall involves 3,594 vehicles in these United States, specifically model-year 2013 and 2014 Audi S6 and S7 models equipped with the 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8. (It does not, however, seem to affect the S8 or any of the Bentleys that are powered by the same engine.) Owners of said cars can expect to be contacted regarding how the problem will be fixed. In the meantime you can read the official notice below.
