Overview
Introduced in 1994, Audi's volume-leading A4 model traces its lineage back to the Audi 80, first launched in 1966. Now in its third generation, the A4 has grown incrementally in size and luxury offerings with every subsequent redesign-as has the competition from
BMW,Mercedes-Benz, Lexus and Infiniti as the bar continues to be raised in this class of cars. For 2009, Audi presents an all-new, fourth-generation A4 with dynamic styling, new sophisticated powerplants, and innovative technology designed to make it even more competitive.

When compared to the previous model, the all-new 2009 Audi A4 luxury sport sedan feature entirely new, sportier proportions. Overall length is up nearly 5 inches and width has been increased by more than 2 inches. The wheelbase has been stretched, and the hood is longer. The front body overhang has also been shortened, allowing the wheels to be pushed further to the edge of the vehicle, improving ride and handling characteristics, Audi says.

Interior dimensions have grown as well. The cabin is longer than the previous models, and rear-seat passengers enjoy knee room that has grown by 1.4 inches. Headroom and shoulder room has also increased, offering additional comfort to occupants. Trunk capacity on the sedan is 17 cubic feet, a volume greater than any competitor offers, according to Audi. In addition, trunk capacity remains the same whether the car is equipped with front-wheel drive (FWD) or Audi's quattro permanent all-wheel drive (AWD). Fold-down rear seats are standard.

While the body shell has grown in nearly every dimension, advanced engineering is credited with keeping the new body extremely light in weight. Ultra-high-strength steels are utilized throughout the body shell resulting in significant weight savings. According to Audi, the 2009 model's bare body shell alone weighs 10 percent less than that of the previous model.

This 2009 Audi A4 is currently being covered by a transferable comprehensive 6-year/100,000-mile C.P.O. warranty.

Model Lineup
The new A4 offers many detail designs found in Audi's flagship, the A8, including the Driver Information System (DIS).

For the first time, the A4 features an electromechanical parking brake operated by a small electronic lever-another luxury feature derived from the A8. It functions as a parking brake, emergency brake, and start assistant to prevent the vehicle from rolling backwards when it departs. The space formerly occupied by a hand brake now houses additional cabin storage with twin 12-volt power adapters.

Standard equipment on the 2009 Audi A4 includes Bluetooth wireless connectivity, Sirius satellite radio, S-Line exterior with greatly enhanced exterior appearance (the S-Line package has been discontinued due to the S-Line exterior now being standard)

This Vehicle includes a new $1450 “18-inch Sport” package, including a bumpy three-spoke steering wheel, well-contoured sport seats, and an aggressively tuned sport suspension;

Powertrain
This 2009 Audi A4 sedan is offered with an all-new, turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder that generates 211 hp at 5300-6000 rpm and 258 lb.-ft. of torque at 1500-4200 rpm. With Audi's quattro AWD system, it is offered with Audi's Tiptronic 6-speed automatic. EPA fuel-economy estimates are 19 mpg city/27 mpg highway for Quattro.

The standard 4-wheel disc brakes have been upgraded and improved on the 2009 model. Composite spheroidal-graphite and aluminum calipers clamp new high-performance brake pads that are 20 percent larger for improved brake feel and reduced stopping distances. The latest generation of ESP (electronic stability control) offers a smoother regulating action for less intrusive feedback for the driver, Audi says.

Safety
Occupants in the 2009 Audi A4 are protected by six standard air bags. Driver and front passenger are protected by front and side air bags while curtain air bags protect all outboard passengers. Two additional air bags, of a rear side design, are available optionally. Sensors in the seat rails determine the actual position of the seats and regulate the deployment of the air bags and belt force limiters based on the occupant's position within the vehicle, offering additional safety for drivers of smaller stature. Other safety equipment includes optional dynamic steering and adaptive cruise control.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (
NHTSA), the 2009 Audi A4 receives the agency's highest rating of 5 stars for frontal, side and rollover crash testing.

Mystery shoppers love Infiniti, hate Tesla

Tue, Jul 12 2016

Infiniti, followed by Lexus tied with Mercedes-Benz took the top two spots for best sales experience according to mystery shoppers from the latest Pied Piper Prospect Satisfaction Index, while EV manufacturer Tesla recorded the lowest overall score. Not surprisingly, premium brands dominated the top ranks. Including the three already mentioned, luxury brands occupied seven of the top ten spots and included Audi, BMW, Porsche, and the only American brand to crack the upper echelon, Cadillac. Toyota, Volkswagen, and Nissan rounded out the first ten positions. The news for domestic automakers isn't good. Aside from Caddy, the only other star-spangled automaker to score above the industry average is Chrysler. The rest of FCA, most of GM, and all of Ford fell below the line. But Pied Piper's mystery shoppers handed Tesla the biggest walloping – the company is ten full points below the next lowest brand, Volvo, and its score of 86 is 17 below the average of 103. It's baffling, considering the company's touted direct-sales model. "Tesla leaves me scratching my head," Fred O'Hagan, Pied Piper's president and CEO, told Wards Auto. "They own all of their stores, so you would think each one would be doing the same thing. But they're not. Tesla is consistent in its inconsistencies." O'Hagan added that there's a "huge variation" in Tesla's store-to-store effectiveness, and that in some cases, shoppers found showroom workers that acted more like "museum curators," Wards Auto reports. It might be popular to call Tesla the Apple of the car world, but based on Pied Piper's work, the brand has a long way to go to emulate the uniform shopping experience of an Apple Store. The news might be bad for Tesla, but even for the brands that scored below average, there's cause for celebration. Only Tesla and Mini lost points in this year's rankings, and only Mercedes and Lincoln held steady. Every other brand, including Infiniti, which topped the index for the first time, gained at least one point. The biggest improvements belong to Porsche, Land Rover, and Mitsubishi, which all jumped five points. Pied Piper's annual Prospect Satisfaction Index uses mystery shoppers – over 6,100 this year – from across the country to assess dealers and generate rankings from over 50 individual factors. Don't buy that crossover! Buy a cladded wagon instead!

Fri, Nov 10 2017

If you're looking to buy a car soon, and you're like most Americans, there's a strong chance you're considering buying a crossover SUV. That's what people want nowadays. People like the tough, tall exterior that suggests adventure and preparedness, they like the high seating position, they like the all wheel drive many have and they like the practicality. Because of this, crossovers have rapidly supplanted typical cars such as sedans, wagons, and more as the most popular vehicles in the country. But they're compromised, too. They're often heavy, thirsty, and expensive compared with more conventional cars. The good news is, there's an alternative, a happy medium between the straight crossover and the traditional car. They're lifted wagons, and they're the best crossover SUVs around. And for those who may not know what we're talking about, we're talking about cars and wagons that have been given a suspension lift for more ground clearance and a higher ride height, and often have all wheel drive standard or optional. They also usually have chunky plastic body cladding to make them look tough and durable. Examples include the Subaru Crosstrek, Audi A4 Allroad, Buick Regal TourX, and Volkswagen Golf Alltrack, among others. Because of the suspension and body modifications, these vehicles fit the trendy crossover mold quite well. And in the case of long-running nameplates such as the Subaru Outback and Volvo Cross Country models, they even have some heritage as outdoorsy machines. They also provide the higher driving position that crossover buyers love. And in some cases, such as with the Golf Alltrack, we've learned they offer better ride quality than their road-oriented siblings. View 9 Photos So these tall wagons offer the key things crossover buyers want, but what makes them better than traditional crossovers is that they have the advantages of the cars they're based on. For instance, the aforementioned Golf Alltrack still drives mostly like a Golf, which is to say, it's nimble, feels peppy, and is easy to maneuver because of its relatively small size. We can't really say the same for the Tiguan, which feels generally more sluggish and uninteresting than the Alltrack. And we mention Volkswagen's compact crossover because it starts at nearly the same price as the Alltrack. Some of the difference in giddy-up can be explained by weight. Normal crossovers can be fairly portly, while these lifted wagons are notably lighter.

Enjoying The Romance, Not Yet Convinced About A Commitment
I imagine spending time with a sexy sports coupe is similar to a first date with a supermodel. Before she arrives, there's a buildup of excitement mixed with nervous anticipation. Even though the background work is done, there are many concerns and unanswered questions about how the two of you will get along. What about compatibility, engagement and dynamics?
The big day arrives, and you answer the door to find her waiting in the driveway wearing a form-fitting Misano Red Pearl dress and sleek Anthracite stilettos. As you shake your head in disbelief, you swear she just winked her... ah... xenon headlight at you.
