Up for auction is my 1986 Alfa Romeo Spider Veloce with 88k original miles. This car has a soul that a true Alfisti would appreciate. This is my fifth Spider and this one drives as well as any of them ever did. I bought it last winter and have done alot of small repairs and maintenance since then to improve the car. If you are looking for an inexpensive classic fun summer car that can be driven and enjoyed today, then this is your car. If you are looking for a garage queen or potential concours car, please pass on this one. This is more of a "carport" queen. A properly restored example would easily bring $15k so this will be a bargain for someone at no reserve! The best part about this car is the way that it drives. The engine is very quiet and tight. No exhaust leaks, no funny noises. Once warmed up, the engine just sings as you go through the gears. The clutch is excellent and the synchronizers are better than they usually are. If you know how to drive these cars and shift smoothly, there will be no grinding. Drive it like a Nissan and you will have problems. Brakes, steering and suspension all feel good. Tires have less than 3000 miles on them. The paint has many scratches, chips, cracks, checking, touch-ups, etc. A picky person might want to paint it. But some might enjoy the patina and worry less when they park. But it is The interior is all original and in good shape for its age. I soaked the leather seats in mink oil for three days to help preserve them. The driver's seat has a couple of cracks in the bottom and a small hole in the vinyl bottom side panel. The passenger seat has a couple of cracks in the bottom. Dashboard has no cracks. All instruments work, dash lights do not( I have not checked this out, could be simple). Carpets are in nice shape. Vent window locks are not on. I have the right one, can get the left on ebay for about $25. Power windows work fine but at a snail's pace. Car has AC, it's all there and the compressor is free but it doesn't work. Ashtray is missing. Has Blaupunkt CD player that works fine through one speaker. There is a full size spare and factory jack with tool pouch. The previous owner did regular repairs and maintenance over a 11 year period, but only drove it about 2,000 miles during that time. I have a stack of records. I also installed a new Kirkland battery about a month ago. I know many will ask, "Can I drive this car home to _________? That depends on your experience and abilities. Personally, I could get in the car now and drive to Florida and I would probably make it without any serious incident. But I have alot of experience with this type of thing. Mechanically, this car seems really solid and should be fine with judicious driving and a watchful eye. But please remember the car is 28 years old, so if you are not comfortable with the idea of (mis)adventure on the road then I would be happy to help arrange shipping. I have the clean California title signed by the previous owner. The registration expired 1-3-14. I am selling the car as is and the buyer will be responsible for any tax, tag, title or smog fees. Car did pass its last smog check. That being said, to encourage bidders who are paying cash and are from California, I will refund $100 to help offset these costs. Fiat Centro Stile sells design sketches to support kids in Italy
Sun, Jun 21 2020Fiat's Centro Stile design studio in Europe has kicked off a project called stART Again to support the global charity Save the Children. The studio put 136 high-resolution sketches of Abarth, Alfa Romeo, Fiat, Fiat Professional, Jeep, and Lancia vehicles for download online at just ˆ20 a pop — about $22. The proceeds from all sales will be donated to a charity founded in England 101 years ago "to improve the lives of children through better education, health care, and economic opportunities, as well as providing emergency aid in natural disasters, war, and other conflicts." Save the Children will use the funds to provide supplies, teaching materials, and support for studies for more than 100,000 children in the most disadvantaged areas of Italy who have been additionally harmed by the coronavirus and its effects. There are a heap of knockout drawings available. The selection at the Alfa Romeo store ranges from a 1958 Alfetta 158 racer to the coming Giulia GTA, classics in between including the immortal GTV 6 and the left-field 75 1.8 Turbo TCC racer. The Fiat marketplace contains wares from Abarth, Fiat, and Fiat Professional, with a massive emphasis on the new 500, but the hardcore 1972 Abarth 124 Spyder and oddball 900E van get slots in there (the 900E looks like a Volkswagen Vanagon, but the 900E came first). Fri, Sep 1 2017American car enthusiasts have pined over Alfa Romeos for decades. The automaker stopped importing cars to the U.S. in 1995, with only a brief appearance with the beautiful but exotic 8C Competizione. The 4C followed along a few years later, but it too was a niche product, mainly intended to raise brand awareness than raise sales. That's where the Giulia steps in. As a compact sport sedan, Giulia is Alfa's BMW 3 Series competitor. Sure, the Giulia Quadrifoglio might get all the headlines, but cars like the Giulia Ti Lusso and Sport will be the real volume models. This is an extremely cutthroat segment with high expectations when it comes to both luxury and performance. Alfa has been out of the game for a long time, and the reputation it left wasn't exactly the greatest. Alfa Romeo has a lot riding on this car. Associate Editor Reese Counts: I like this car right from the start. It's a looker. While I prefer colors that pop, the Giulia looks wonderful even in this metallic black paint. The proportions are all perfect, and that iconic grille has rarely looked better. If Alfa does one thing right, its the styling. I felt the same way about the interior. The design is all simple and clean. The seats are particularly nice, with Ferrari-esque ribs down the middle. I'm also a big fan of the wood and leather. Only some cheap feeling plastic bits brought it down. This Giulia has a middling transmission, a good engine and great steering. There's some weird low-speed hesitation from the eight-speed that makes it feel like a dual-clutch. Once you're on it, the shifts are quick and smooth. The Lusso doesn't come with paddle shifters. That's fine. Not every car needs them. Buy the Sport if you want that sort of thing. Power and torque come on quick and effortlessly. It feels every bit as its class-leading (four-cylinder) 280 horsepower and 306 pound-feet for torque would suggest. The 5,500 rpm redline comes in quick and abrupt, making me wish it had a little more room to breathe up top. The steering is wonderful. It's quick and precise but doesn't feel jittery. I'd have to drive the competition back to back, but I think this has the best steering in the class. The wheel feels nice in your hands. Some of the other touch points are a letdown, but Alfa got the driving position and controls just right. Not a , but still a . Good engine, better steering.
Alfa Romeo 8C, Maserati Quattroporte and Granturismo models recalled over rust fears
Mon, 20 May 2013The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has announced Maserati and Alfa Romeo are recalling certain Quattroporte, Granturismo and 8C models over potentially faulty tie rod ends. According to NHTSA, 2005-2008 Quattroporte, 2008 Granturismo and 2008 8C units may have been assembled with tie rod ends that have insufficient corrosion protection. As such, the components may rust, weaken and potentially fail. If that happens, the driver could lose control of the vehicle and cause an accident.
Maserati and Alfa Romeo will contact owners and replace the tie rod end assemblies once the recall gets underway in June. All told, 7,438 vehicles are impacted by the recall. You can read the full NHTSA notice below for more information.
