1989 Alfa Romeo Spider Veloce Convertible - California Car, Very Nice Shape on 2040-cars
Rockville, Minnesota, United States
My summer toy is up for sale - 1989 Alfa Romeo Spider Veloce. Very fun to drive, gets ton of "thumbs ups" everywhere you go! I purchased this car a little over three years ago from its longtime owner in southern California and drove all the way home to Minnesota. Since then, it has been properly stored every winter, and properly enjoyed every summer. All maintenance faithfully performed and has never needed any mechanical repairs since being in my possession. Interior in very nice shape with tan leather seats and black carpet that are both like brand new. Door cards in great shape. Some minor warping is present in the soft dash and console parts. Body is straight and clean with no visible rust. Underbody is also in very nice shape, as it has likely never seen any salt or snow. New tires with only a few thousand miles on them. Handles nicely with no annoying vibrations. Tracks straight and true. Remarkably free from annoying squeaks and rattles while driving. Top is in great shape, thought the back window could use replacement. This is the "veloce" model, so it is pretty well equipped with (working) power windows and (currently non-working) keyless entry, air conditioning (in need of a recharge), CD player, 5-speed manual transmission, and the aforementioned beautiful leather seats. Mechanically, this car has always gotten me around with no hassle, and even drove in the famous Grand Old Day parade in Saint Paul last year. The 2.0 liter Alfa engine still pulls well, though it does leak a very slight amount of oil by the spark plugs. Runs well after it has been warmed up, does stumble a bit for first few minutes of operation. Fuel injected, so it tarts easily and reliably. 5-speed transmission shifts smoothly and the cutch works well. Brakes are strong, but will pull to the right on hard braking, I'm guessing that it may have some air in the line that should be bled out. Consistently gets around 30 MPG and is perfectly happy cruising at 70 MPH on the freeway. Does have it's share of quirks, as are to be expected in a 25 year old Italian car. As previously mentioned, the keyless remote is no longer working, nor is the AC. The speedometer does not function, and the tach is not accurate, though the odometer is. The interior gauge and switch lights work intermittently. All in all, while this is not a show car, it is a very reliable, fun, functional summer toy and is in rare condition here in the midwest. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or if you would like to arrange for a drive. I do drive the car frequently, and continue to do so - so mileage will increase slightly. Happy to assist with shipping in any way I can, including arranging for transport. Also happy to deliver at no charge to anywhere within central Minnesota or the twin cities. Thanks and Happy Bidding!!! Zach |

Alfa Romeo 8C and GTV: Classic names revived as high-powered hybrids
Fri, Jun 1 2018BOLOCCO, Italy — There were grand plans for Alfa Romeo at FCA's last five-year plan. By 2018, we were supposed to get eight new products, including a new "specialty" vehicle. In reality, we've gotten the Giulia and Stelvio. At this year's follow-up, Alfa Romeo brand head Tim Kuniskis called the last plan ambitious, but he offered a new vision that was both more realistic and more far-reaching. Beyond doubling down on utility and electrified vehicles, by 2022 Alfa has plans to revive both the 8C and GTV names as high-performance hybrids. Since 2014, Alfa sales are up 160 percent, with an estimated 170,000 vehicles to be sold in 2018. The North American market counts for 16 percent of that, up from nothing back in 2013. Future products will focus on Alfa's current strengths: styling and performance. Look for new compact and full-size utility vehicles to slot on each side of the Stelvio. Plans for a larger sedan seemed to have been nixed, though a long-wheelbase version of the Giulia will make it to the ever-increasing Chinese market. The most exciting news obviously comes from the return of the 8C supercar and GTV sports car. We have few details, but what we do know looks promising. The 8C will use a carbon-fiber chassis with a mid-mounted twin-turbo V6. More than 700 horsepower will be sent to all four wheels thanks to an electrically-driven front axle. The car should hit 62 mph in fewer than 3 seconds. The GTV will be slightly more tame, though Alfa is promising more than 600 horsepower from its hybrid powertrain. The four-seater will also have all-wheel drive, torque vectoring and a 50/50 weight distribution. The brief teaser image shows a car that looks like a two-door Giulia, though it's unclear if we'll actually get a new coupe. Electrification, autonomy and connectivity are coming, too. Obviously, the 8C and GTV will get electrified powertrains, but look for each Alfa Romeo model to have some sort of electrification available. Look for six plug-in hybrids with all-electric ranges of more than 30 miles. Level 2 and 3 autonomous systems are coming, too. Fiat set to invest $12B on new models, stop Euro losses in 3 years
Mon, 09 Dec 2013Naturally, you'd expect a massive automaker like Fiat to have an in-depth plan to exit the current European-market doldrums, and you'd expect that plan to include plenty of new vehicles to attract those precious buyers that still remain despite the financial downturn. And you'd be right, though Fiat does seem to have a few unexpected twists up its corporate sleeve.
Perhaps the biggest shocker is a report that Fiat will completely drop the Punto, a car with mass-market appeal aimed at small-car buyers cross-shopping the popular Volkswagen Polo. Its replacement will be a five-door Fiat 500 aimed at upmarket buyers (sounds awfully similar to the 500L) that will be built in Poland. Lower-end customers will reportedly be served by variants of the Fiat Panda.
Borrowing a page from the BMW, Daimler and Volkswagen playbook, reports Automotive News, Fiat is said to have plans to reignite production at its Italian factories by retooling them to build high-end vehicles from Maserati and Alfa Romeo. These will be marketed as premium products, built by skilled Italian workers (who are paid wages that are 75-percent higher than those building Fiats in Poland), and will be sold around the world.
Alfa Romeo should return to Formula One ASAP
Tue, Feb 16 2016Alfa Romeo should absolutely return to Formula One. It would benefit the company, and it would benefit the sport. By extension, it would benefit enthusiasts. Let's break it down: Self-Interest: Alfa is struggling to reboot as a viable modern automaker. Americans love the idea of an Alfa but sometimes associate it with the movie The Graduate, which is nearly 50 years old, and the vague notion of sporty convertibles. It's mythic, but murky. Still, this is a big name in automotive history. If you asked a random person on the street: Do you want to drive an Alfa Romeo? They'd almost certainly say yes. F1 is the pinnacle of motorsport. By competing in the World Championship and even better – winning – Alfa could legitimately claim it's not a museum piece, but a company on the edge of technology. And in this case, history is in Alfa's favor. Its drivers, Giuseppe Farina (shown above in 1950) and Juan Manuel Fangio, won the first two Formula One titles in 1950-51. This is a company that's won at LeMans, Mille Miglia, and Targa Florio. Sure, those are some dusty trophies, but the people who would consider buying an Alfa are connoisseurs. They appreciate the bloodlines. F1 Would Be Better: This doesn't matter to Alfa, but the sport would be more interesting with Alfa on the grid. Can you imagine an Alfa in a pitched fight with a Ferrari (say with Sebastian Vettel as the wheel) at Monza? F1 could use some new storylines and rivalries. Simply having an Alfa Romeo team on the grid would spice things up. Use engines from Ferrari. That makes the most sense, and Ferrari already sells its units to other teams. Some of them might as well go to another Italian outfit that still probably wouldn't have the same resources as the Scuderia. Enzo Ferrari started out at Alfa, by the way. It's A Win-Win For Enthusiasts: Fiat Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne has said a lot of curious things lately, but he's spot-on with the notion of Alfa returning to F1. If that happens, it would make Alfa's new models, like the Giulia and 4C, seem sportier. It would remind collectors just how special the old ones are. And it would make Formula One a more compelling sport. Yes, F1 is wildly expensive. But FCA can find money to do Hellcats and hybrid minivans. It should double-down on Alfa's return to F1.
