1987 Alfa Romeo Spider Veloce - Honest Car For Sale! on 2040-cars
Bedford, New York, United States
I am pleased to be able to offer this very fine example of a mid-80's
bosche, fuel injected 2 liter engine Alfa Spider. This car has had two
owners for most of its life (both lawyers!) The original owner from New
York and the current owner of 20 years in beautiful Essex Connecticut.
The car has never been abused, driven wildly, or been in any accidents.
There are no major rust issues either with the floors or the trunk. The
paint color is an unusual burnt orange/rust. It is of course its
original color. The interior is tan leather.
This is a wonderful running Alfa Romeo. It sounds great, feels great, drives great, shifts great, synchros fine, and even breaks great. It enjoys five matching Campagnolo alloys with five matching Michelin tires. The suspension is tight as are the shocks. This is truly a Driver Quality Car. This is a car you would not hesitate to fly in and drive home. The A/C seems to blow cold. Driver's electric window is intermittent. Electric mirrors work. The car has a wonderful upgraded CD stereo. The leather is by and large in excellent condition. The convertible top is black German canvas, also in acceptable condition. The doors open and close perfectly. There is no sagging of the body shell. Horn, lights, blinkers all work. The quality of the paint is old original/somewhat faded. Again, this is not a show car, simply a wonderful driving 2 liter Alfa Spider. Please be aware that there is a mileage discrepancy issue. Both the speedometer and tachometer work well. The odometer does not accrue miles. As the car is over ten years of age, there is a waver by the state of New York. If you fix the odometer, you get to start from the beginning! Feel free to call me at (914) 403-1768 and take a ride to beautiful Bedford Village, located just 42 miles north of Times Square. If transportation is of concern to you, I strongly recommend Transport Masters of Boca Raton, Florida - (561) 482-7789 for a free quote. Thank you for taking the time to read this description. Drive like Mario Andretti in his 1981 Alfa Romeo GTV-6
Sat, May 1 2021In the United States, Mario Andretti is the racing driver whose name is likely best known among the general public. Over his decades-long career, Andretti has driven into the winner's circle numerous times and in a variety of racing series and venues. He is an ex-Formula One champion (1978), a four-time IndyCar champion, as well as an Indy 500 winner (1969). And while we mere mortals probably cannot drive like Mario Andretti, we can drive one of Mario Andretti's cars, specifically this 1981 Alfa Romeo GTV-6, which is currently for sale at classic-car vendor LBI Limited. Based on the pictures of this Alfa, the car shows just under 36,000 miles. This GTV-6 is finished in Grigio over a tan leather interior. Power is by a 2.5-liter DOHC V6. Equipment includes a five-speed manual, power windows, air conditioning, a wood-rim steering wheel and a Blaupunkt cassette stereo. Andretti drove for the Alfa Romeo F1 team in 1981, and he also appeared in ads for the GTV-6. There was even a Mario Andretti limited edition of the earlier European-market Alfa Romeo GTV in 1976. This car reportedly was a gift from the automaker and was delivered in May 1981. He reportedly kept it for a year, although his ownership is documented (click the "View Documents" tab on the listing). The current asking price for this Alfa is $48,000, although there may be some wiggle room there, given that this car appears to have been a no-sale in a May 2020 RM Sotheby's auction where it garnered a high bid of $28,000. That's about $8K more than is sold for at auction in 2016, although the car is said to have since had thousands of dollars in service. Regardless of the price, this is a cool Alfa with a direct connection to America's most famous racing driver. Related video:
Scrapyard Gem: 2008 Alfa Romeo Spider 2.2 JTS
Sun, Apr 28 2024Alfa Romeo departed our shores after the final 164s and Spider Veloces were sold here as 1995 models, then returned for the 2015 model year with the 4C. Thanks to its position in the mighty Stellantis Empire, the current American-market Alfa Romeo lineup looks quite a bit like the Italian-market one, but we missed out on some interesting machinery during our Alfa-deprived 1996-2014 period. One of those cars was the 2006-2010 Spider, and I found a discarded example in an Italian/French specialty breaker's yard near Leeds, England during a recent trip. Sherburn Motor Spares is located in Sherburn-in-Elmet, on the former site of the factory where Fairey Swordfish torpedo bombers were built during World War II. They specialize in Italian and French cars, which means the place overflows with vehicles we didn't get on our side of the Atlantic. I've written about a 1999 Alfa Romeo 166 and a 2009 Alfa Romeo Brera S that reside there, and now it's the turn of the Brera's convertible sibling. I couldn't resist buying this stunning "International Van of the Year 2008" emblem from a Citroen Dispatch at Sherburn Motor Spares; it now lives on the door of the breaker box in my garage. GBP3 well spent! "Spider" is a term originally applied to an arachnid-ish horse-drawn carriage and is applicable to any convertible-top automobile today, but Alfa Romeo didn't hesitate to use it as a model name in its own right when it came time to built a sporty convertible on a platform originally devised by Saab for use beneath GM and Fiat machinery. As it turned out, the only production cars using that platform ended up being Alfa Romeos. Giorgetto Giugiaro handled the design of the Brera coupe, while Pininfarina did both the styling and assembly of the Spider. As you'd expect, reviewers thought both cars looked great. Just over 12,000 2006-2010 Spiders were built. The U.K.-market Spider was available with front- or all-wheel-drive and a choice of three petrol and two diesel engines (yes, a diesel Alfa Spider!). This car has the base 2.2-liter JTS straight-four petrol engine, which was a direct-injected unit based on GM's Ecotec engine block. Output was 182 horsepower and 170 pound-feet. This one had donated some body parts by the time I arrived on a freezing Yorkshire morning, but it appears to have been in reasonably good condition upon arrival.
