1976 Alfa Romeo Spider Veloce Convertible 2-door 2.0l on 2040-cars
Orlando, Florida, United States
This is a very solid '76 Alfa that had very little rust except for the spare tire well. This car was rust protected with a Ziebart-like spray when new and did not rust out except for the tire well, which was repaired with fiberglass and sheet steel and looks good. The car had been repainted quite a while ago. The paint is shiny except for the hood, but only in fair condition. The hood is dull and looks like a different shade of the same color. The rocker panels, lower fender areas, jacking points and floors are solid. Rocker panels have had some surface rust touch ups. The big black rear bumper was replaced with an earlier model stainless bumper. It has headlight covers in good condition. The top works well and is not ripped. The rear plastic window is not clear, but can be seen through. The bouncing speedometer (reading 58,000) was replaced a half year ago with one that works except for the trip meter and reading some 53,000 miles. So, the car lost 5000 miles. The actual miles are unknown, but the condition makes me feel it is around 60,000. I have owned the car 4 years and have put about 3000 miles on it, mostly working on it as a hobby car. The speedometer works smoothly without bouncing as does the tachometer. The other gauges work correctly as well. The driver seat was nicely reupholstered. The passenger seat is original and in good condition with some repairs having been made. The door panels have been replaced with simple black flat vinyl on a plastic backing board to eliminate warping. They look very good. The original floor rubber mats are in excellent condition. The glove box door was removed and the inside upholstered to make a finished parcel area without the ugly warped door usually seen. The dashboard has cracks that have been filled, but not smoothly. The gas tank was cleaned and treated with POR 15. The cylinder head was taken to a professional cylinder head shop with the right tools do a valve job and correctly install and ream new valve guides. New European cams from International Auto Parts were fitted to the heads and correctly adjusted. The cams were the standard grind for a carburetor car. It has a new head gasket and gasket set, of course, and the head does not leak. Early model year 2.0L cast headers were fitted. A rebuilt set of Dellorto carburetors was fitted with the manifold, jetting, and air box from a European '78 sedan originally delivered in the Virgin Islands. The Alfa has all new hoses, tune up parts, water pump, motor mounts, fuel pump, and fuel pressure regulator. The engine runs very well, idles well, does not have flat spots in acceleration, and does not smoke on acceleration, deceleration, or consume out-of-spec quantities of oil. Oil pressure is excellent. It does not overheat. It does run rich at idle which can lead to plugs loading up. The transmission has a good clutch with smooth action and no slipping. The transmission has no grinding in second gear or any other gear either upshifting or downshifting. It is the smoothest Alfa gearbox that I've driven. The stock exhaust system is two years old and is not rusty. The brakes work well. Tires are good on BWA period-correct wheels that have been spray painted one color. No radio; never had one. Issues that I know of: Front turn signals do not work. Gauges fog up in cool weather. It has a small dent on the nose that is hard to notice. The wipers and heater work on one speed only. The trip meter does not work. Like most Alfas, it leaks several quarter sized drops of transmission oil and engine oil per day requiring a mat or tray under the car when stored. This is a great running solid Alfa that has had all of the right mechanical things done to it. Sorry, California folks and a few others; it has been modified and will not be street legal or pass a smog test. I added photos to show the jacking points, floor, rocker panels, and repair work done to the wheel. The car also has at least a half dozen small dents that look like door dings, but on the top of the front left fender and a few dings on the trunk lid.

2017 Alfa Romeo Giulia Ti
Fri, Apr 21 2017It is the cover car of the moment for enthusiast publications across the country. And the introduction of the 2017 Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio deserves the notice. With it Fiat Chrysler Automobiles marks the real return of Alfa Romeo sales and service to the North American market. Alfa's two-seater – the 4C – preceded it, but the target market for those coupes and roadsters could be fitted into a commuter jet. The new Giulia is aimed at the midsize sport sedan audience currently occupied by the BMW 3 Series, Mercedes-Benz C-Class, and Audi A4. The sales potential is huge and historically underserved by Italian brands. While the Giulia Quadrifoglio, with its 505 horsepower and track-ready suspension gets the ink, we think it's the more pedestrian Giulia sedan that's deserving your attention. And by pedestrian we don't mean prosaic; the Giulia is an exciting sedan built atop a competent platform and propelled by a responsive turbocharged drivetrain. With a base price in real-wheel-drive form (all-wheel drive is optional) of under $40,000, the Giulia is accessible in a way the $72,000 Quadrifoglio is not. On Alfa's Build Your Own site we studied the options, selecting an upgrade with Alfa's Giulia Ti. It constitutes a $2,000-bump over the Giulia's $38,000 base, and gives you 18-inch alloy wheels (vs. the 17-inchers on the standard Giulia). The Ti also provides dark gray oak interior accents and the availability of both Sport and Lusso (luxury) appearance packages. Other adds included the Vesuvio Gray exterior ($600), additional leather interior trim ($995), the Ti Performance package ($1,200) and the Ti 18-inch Sport Package ($1,750). The Sport package adds more aggressive alloy wheels, paddle shifters, and aluminum pedals, while Performance supplied the active suspension and limited slip differential. The end result is a net price of $45,535 including applied offers. We think we'd lease it. In talking with an Alfa dealer in suburban Washington, an advertised lease special on a $44,000-Giulia resulted in 39 payments at just over $500 per month, with roughly $7,500 out of pocket and a residual value of $21,239. At the end of that 39 months you have the option of returning the car to FCA or buying it for the residual. We think the Giulia, with an MSRP of between $40,000 and $50,000, is a screaming deal. And to buy your own 'used' car at the end of three years for $21,000? That's a crazy good deal. Related Video:
Alfa Romeo 4C La Furiosa revealed by Lapo Elkann's Garage Italia
Sat, Nov 14 2015Visitors to the Dubai Motor Show who stopped by the Alfa Romeo stand were treated to this aesthetically modified 4C created by Garage Italia Customs. To make this particular example stand apart from an "ordinary" Alfa 4C, the customizers cloaked it in a velvet matte-finish red, similar to the original show car. The roof was left in exposed carbon fiber, fading into red, like the engine cover and brake calipers. The trim around the headlights, air vents, and side mirrors has been left in carbon fiber with a thin coat of candy red that leaves the weave exposed. The wheels are painted gold, and the interior is swathed in Alcantara. The creation was made for Alfa Romeo by the customizing firm started by Lapo Elkann. The eccentric brother of Fiat Chrysler chairman John Elkann is himself an heir to the Agnelli empire, and has played a variety of roles in the company - including brand promotion and the creation of the Gucci edition Cinquecento. Alongside fashion house Italia Independent, Lapo founded Garage Italia Customs to apply his unique sense of style and that of his team to models like the Fiat 500, Jeep Renegade, and Maserati Ghibli. Related Video: Milano, November 10th 2015 Garage Italia Customs in Dubai with Alfa Romeo 4C "La Furiosa" On the occasion of the 2015 Dubai International Motor Show, Garage Italia Customs presents a world premiere, La Furiosa, the 4C one-off created for Alfa Romeo. La Furiosa is the result of the meeting between the "Mechanics of Emotions" and the Style Center together with the Maestros of Garage Italia Customs. It is a unique model that combines the high level technical characteristics of this Alfa Romeo and the Tailor Made interventions of the Lapo Elkann team specialists. THE EXTERIORS The stage for the debut of this new creation by Carlo Borromeo - head of the Garage Italia Customs Style Centre – is the Alfa Romeo stand at the Dubai International Motor Show. Hence, La Furiosa is unveiled to the international press next to the Alfa Romeo 510 CV Giulia Quadrifoglio and the latest versions of the Alfa Romeo Giulietta Quadrifoglio, the Alfa Romeo 4C Coupe and the Alfa Romeo 4C Spider. The aim of the Garage is to create a car which emphasises the 4C wild style with a strong and extraordinary aesthetic impact. Special toned-down painting characterises the external livery.
Is Alfa Romeo readying 4C Spider for Detroit reveal?
Wed, Dec 31 2014The 2015 Detroit Auto Show just keeps looking like one of the best automotive events in the Motor City in years, and it seems increasingly likely that we're going to see another sports car reveal there with the production Alfa Romeo 4C Spider. The latest hint towards the unveiling of the Spider comes from FCA's own blog. In a story about the first customer deliveries of the 4C Launch Edition, the last sentences nearly let the cat out of the bag: "Alfa Romeo plans to introduce eight new models by 2018. You'll get your next Alfa fix at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit in January." Just looking at the roofline of the 4C, it's pretty clear that a convertible was in the cards from the very beginning. Alfa confirmed that with the Spider concept (pictured below) at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show, and reaffirmed the drop top in the company's five-year plan. Further evidence for the fast approaching debut came recently when a fully production-spec 4C Spider (pictured above) was spotted being professionally filmed in Spain. It sported some changes over the concept, including a cooling inlet on the driver's side rear fender and exhausts at the corners, instead of the center.
