I am in my seventies and it is time to sell my driver quality Alfa Romeo. Last fall I turned the car over to an experienced Alfa technician with the instructions to properly mechanically prep this vehicle for an eventual sale. Items that were fixed and/or improved include (but are not limited to) new front seal and pulley plus injection pump belt, new brake master cylinder and rubber wheel hoses, new high performance electronic ignition (RML?), new Bosch coil, new Bosch electric fuel pump and related fuel lines, new emergency brake cable and related hardware and, of course, all associated fluids and filters. Total cost for parts and labor (will include receipt) was $3267.43!!! After having worked on the car and having driven the car for a couple of days, the mechanic is convinced the odometer miles are true. The cockpit of the Alfa is in very nice, mostly original and in highly detailed condition. It still has the original rubber mats throughout. The floors are solid and I applied 3m sound control mats beneath the rubber. The door panels are straight and door jambs present very well. The engine compartment is clean and in original unaltered condition. The luggage compartment is also very clean, nicely detailed and it houses an almost new spare tire mounted on a bead blasted and refinished steel rim. The original working jack has been refinished along with the factory lug wrench. This is a color change car having been painted in base/clear coat some years ago by a previous owner. The original color was a factory off white (see photo of luggage compartment without mat). The paint job, not show quality, still shines nicely. The convertible top is an older vinyl one that is still weather tight. I have always kept the top folded beneath the boot cover having only driven the car in good weather. The tires are in very good condition, showing little tread wear. Included in the sale are two original ignition keys, an original owner's manual, a service manual, the original distributor and cap, the original coil, new metal side emblems and a new reproduction chrome side view mirror with Alfa Romeo logo (from International Auto Parts). The Alfa will need rocker panel work in time (a previous owner had some correction done but not to a high standard). Repair panels were fabricated rather than using factory replacements. These things are taken into consideration by offering the car at a rather low and NO RESERVE starting bid (I have two and a half times that amount invested). The Alfa starts up, runs, drives and stops extremely well. Clutch activity and shifting is very good (second gear is no problem after brief gearbox warm-up). The car is garage kept and covered when it is not in use (see picture) and cover is included with sale.

Remember this is a forty year old driver quality car and it is being offered at NO RESERVE and without warranty written or implied. One opening bid of $3900.00 will win this car so, bid only to win. Transport is the sole responsibility of the auction winner, but seller will cooperate with arrangements. Payment must be made in full via domestic U.S.A. bank check and payment must be received within seven business days after end of the auction. The car will not be released for transport until funds have cleared my bank (Bank of America). Happy bidding!

We're not getting the Alfa Romeo Giulia Veloce, and that's fine

Wed, Sep 21 2016

Alfa Romeo revealed today that a special edition of the Giulia sports sedan called "Veloce" will make its debut in Paris. It's only slated for Europe, the Middle East and Africa, but before you start lamenting that the US will once again miss out on a cool Euro-spec sedan, we have some good news: it's nothing special. The Giulia Veloce is just a normal Giulia with an appearance package and a fancy name. It comes with either the 280-horsepower turbocharged four-cylinder gas engine, which we will get in 276-hosepower trim, or the 210-horsepower diesel four-cylinder. From there, Alfa throws in options like Q4 all-wheel drive, 19-inch 5-hole wheels, a tweaked front bumper, sport seats and steering wheel, rear diffuser and black window trim. That's it. Well that, and one of the Veloces at the show will sport a new color of blue, but it's not clear if that's a package-exclusive color or just another option. Many of these components will be available in the US, including the all-wheel drive, wheels, and, based on the American Alfa website, probably the black window trim. It's just that they won't all come in one package. And even if a few pieces of vehicle flair don't make it here, we're still not going to lose sleep over an appearance package. If you really need to be upset about something, perhaps consider the fact that we probably won't see Giulias on dealer lots until early next year. And that's just our best guess since we don't have an official launch date yet. Now that's something worthy of some frustration. Related Video:

Watch Alfa Romeo's slightly suggestive lifestyle ad for the 4C

Sun, Jan 4 2015

We haven't watched a car ad with this much European panache in quite some time - and let us be clear, we're using the phrase "European panache" in its marketing sense, which is code for "women in lingerie." But it's Alfa Romeo and it's Italy and it's the 4C and what else would we ever have expected? Alfa Romeo USA has posted a two-minute spot talking up the technology and capabilities of the of 4C, with beauty shots of the car augmented by an amorous pantomime between two beautiful people wearing a whisper of clothing and some un-subtle editing; like when the phrase "pure seduction" is matched to the 4C's rear end and... some lovely lady lumps. It's totally safe for work, but that doesn't mean you want it rolling when the boss walks by. And speaking of the above phrase, we're wondering if the coupe's exterior designers signed off on "The inexplicable design of the 4C is pure seduction." Inexplicable? Check it out in the video above.
