1973 Alfa Romeo Spider
VIN:  AR3041818
Miles:  Odometer shows 65K.  Unknown if this is accurate, but odometer works.
Private seller.
Non-smoker.
Baby on the way, two door cars must go.

The early 70’s “S2” Spiders are some of the best and most desirable you can find.  Lightweight, good power, great handling, small bumpers, and beautiful styling.
This example is a great driver car; it runs, stops, shifts, drives, and handles amazing.  Enjoy for many years ‘as is’, or restore as you go.    I believe the paint is original; looks good from far, but is far from good.  Some surface and some swiss cheese rust in the typical lower body exterior, but nothing structural.
 Excellent compression on all cylinders:  140, 135, 135, 140
All instrument gauges and four main dash indicators work.
Constant coolant temp at 180 degrees, constant oil pressure above 57
Heater works well and blows hot.
 Comes with new car cover.
No known accidents.  Clean title in hand.  Passed Colorado DMV inspection (all the important things WORK as they should), currently licensed and insured.

Tasteful upgrades and/or newly replaced:
JVC KD-X80BT head unit with remote plays digital music loaded on USB flash drive + four Blaupunkt GTX speakers, and Infinity Basslink 200-Watt, Dual 10-Inch Powered Subwoofer
Team Dynamics Pro Race 1.2 Anthracite wheels; 15x7x30, 4x108; 73mm center bore
High performance BF Goodrich Super Sport A/S Tires 205/50/ZR15
IAP performance headers, custom exhaust straight back to ANSA muffler
Full SPICA rebuild by Wes Ingram in 2012, runs great.  Maintenance and Tuneup guides included
LED interior and exterior lighting – dash lighting is visible!
K&N filter
Recovered leather seats and dash cap
Rebuilt driveshaft – no vibration!
Upgraded to cross drilled rotors + rebuilt calipers.
New clutch.  New radiator.  New Koni Sport shocks and performance springs (from IAP).  New gas tank and fuel pump.  New pointless distributor, Bosch coil, and battery.  New top, boot cover, sump guard.
Chrome trim and new windshield included (existing windshield has wiper scratches across passenger side)
New sport three spoke steering wheel.
New firewall and roof track drainage tubes – no wet floors!
Upgrades in the last 12 months alone total over $7,500

Known issues:
Typical 2nd gear synco can crunch if not familiar with how to properly drive these cars, or ‘double clutch’
Non-structural rust spots in lower fenders and wheel arches – very repairable. Dented nose.
Slight transmission/Diff leak – maybe a drop or two per week?  Very minimal for a 1973 Alfa.
Previous owner temporally fixed eroding floorpans with thick aluminum plate reinforcement and undercoating.  A solid fix, but if restoring, they will need attention.
Passenger window missing a gear tooth, but does fully roll up and down with slightly more effort than usual needed.
Windshield washer reservoir cracked.  Replacement bag type in hand but not installed.  Pump and sprayers work.
LED bulbs create a ‘fast blink’ issue on turn signals and dash turn signal indicator not flashing

Car is listed on other sites, I reserve the right to end auction early.  Based on condition, rarity, upgrades, and comparable sales, I believe the price is fair.  First $4000 takes it.

Buyer info:  You are responsible for shipping, located in 80215.  Half payment due at auction close, half upon receipt of vehicle.   Paypal preferred.   Serious inquires only.  No warranty expressed or implied.  Title is in hand and will be sent over night once full payment is received. I have a perfect Ebay seller and buyer rating, so bid with confidence.

Jeep and Alfa Romeo join the already exotic Italian police force

Mon, Dec 12 2016

Police departments in Italy are blessed with some of the most iconic cop cars on the planet. Where else will you see a pale blue Lamborghini Huracan LP 610-4 emblazoned with "Polizia" on the road? FCA decided they couldn't let Lamborghini steal the show and have handed over the first Jeep Renegade and Alfa Romeo Giulietta to the Police Academy in Rome. FCA is also loaning two Alfa Romeo Giulia Veloces that will join the two Giulia Quadrifoglios medical cars that are already in service. The Renegade is an four-wheel drive Italian-spec model with a 2.0-liter, 120 horsepower inline four-cylinder engine that we don't get in the United States. The current Giulietta is a small-hatchback that isn't sold in America. On the other hand, the new Giulia and its 280 horsepower turbocharged inline-four and the Q4 all-wheel drive system goes on sale next month. In polizia guise, it's one of the most formidable and beautiful pursuit vehicles on the road. FCA is no stranger to police cars and supplies Dodge Charger Pursuits to fleets all across the US. We spent some time in one a while back and learned all the pros and cons of driving a black and white cruiser. Porsche 911 Turbo and Nissan GT-R Nismo star in World's Greatest Drag Race 4

Fri, 26 Sep 2014

We love Motor Trend's annual World's Greatest Drag Race video. Now back for its fourth appearance, the idea of lining some of the world's fastest cars up for a ten-wide, straight-line, full-throttle run is, well... it's pretty freaking badass.
The lineup this year boasts some impressively fast cars to be sure. The group of ten includes the following darlings: Alfa Romeo 4C, BMW i8, BMW M4, Chevrolet Camaro Z/28, Ford Fiesta ST, Jaguar F-Type R Coupe, Nissan GT-R Nismo, Porsche 911 Turbo S, Subaru WRX STI and, last but not least, the Volkswagen GTI. Give us any one of those for the weekend, and we're happy to take the keys.
It must be said though, that for a publication that draws as much water as Motor Trend does, there are some big cars that we might expect to be here instead. The Lamborghini Huracán or Ferrari 458 Speciale would have added some exotic flare to the list, and the omissions of the Chevy Corvette Stingray (for the second year in a row) and the Dodge Challenger Hellcat are real head-scratchers.

Alfa Romeo 4C Spider reportedly dead in Europe, only dealer stock remains

Thu, Nov 7 2019

It's been hard to get a reliable prognosis concerning Alfa Romeo in general, and especially hard to figure out what's in store for the brand in the United States. Last year the automaker canceled the 4C coupe, last week the brand's future product roadmap appeared to deep-six the anticipated GTV and 8C sports cars in order to focus on more efficient spending in more important segments. In February of this year, Alfa Romeo launched the 4C Spider Italia in a run of just 15 units, the two biggest surprises about that car being the $73,495 price and the fact that it extended the model's run into 2020. We're not yet into 2020, but it looks like the party's over. The French outpost of Motor1 is said to have confirmed with Alfa Romeo that the 4C Spider has ceased production. According to the report, the only 4Cs left across the Atlantic are the ones currently in dealer inventory.  Autoblog asked Alfa Romeo to confirm the news, a spokesman responded by e-mail, "I can't speak for other markets but the US 4C Spider is not cancelled and is still available for order." Introduced in 2015, the 4C Spider still gets on with a turbocharged four-cylinder putting out 237 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. The 4C Spider needs an irrational generosity to love and drive every day, but the last OEM sports car on sale without power steering knows how to thrill when pushed. Our guess is that, overseas, exotic construction and communicative, go-kart handling couldn't make up for a high price relative to the established competition and lack of interior amenities and ultimate refinement. If the European news is true, sales figures lead us to believe it is but a matter of time before the same ax finds its way to the U.S. Alfa Romeo sold 421 4Cs in Europe last year, compared to 238 in the U.S. This year European dealers sold 196 units through the end of September, U.S. dealers moved 127. If we did lose the open-top sports car before 2021, the move would leave the Giulia sedan and Stelvio SUV as Alfa Romeo's entire U.S. lineup until more crossover-type vehicles show in 2021. No matter what happens, perhaps by 2021 Alfa Romeo will know precisely where it needs to go and have a clear plan for getting there, and perhaps it will be able to do so with the platform and financial resources within a merged Fiat-Chrysler-PSA Group entity. Even for fun, full-throated products, it's hard to get on in today's market without full-throated focus, support, and marketing.
