This Alfa Romeo Spider is an unfinished project that needs mechanical, brake, suspension and interior work.

The only parts missing are the soft top cloth, the exhaust shields under the car, the center
and rear muffler, the factory tool kit, the interior rubber mats and transmission tunnel carpet, the rear brake lines from the proportioning valve to calipers, the metal line from the clutch MC to slave cylinder, and the radiator fan and shroud.

The body and underside was stripped, media blasted and restored.  The metal restoration was undertaken by European craftsmen who took no shortcuts.

This is a truly rust free and structurally sound car that was painted in and out in a spray
booth.  Only the underside was left in epoxy primer; the new owner can decide was is best to use there.

Other work involved media blasting and painting the soft top frame, front suspension "A" arms, drive shafts, rear trailing arms, and the heater box metal pieces.  New bushings were installed on the front/rear arms and new u-joints and center bearing on the drive shafts. New front lower spring pans and rear axle limiting straps were also installed.

The car has been kept under a good quality cover in a dry, heated garage ever since it got back from the body shop 6 years ago.  During this period, the dash assembly, front/rear bumpers, grill, door handles and some exterior lights were installed.

The following parts that need to be installed are included in the advertised price:

-  European factory Dell'Orto DHLA40 carburetors setup taken from a running Alfa with a        1750 engine.  The carburetors were cleaned and gone over by a mechanic in Italy 2              years ago.

-  New fuel tank for Roundtail Spider with carburetors

-  New performance nickel/chrome plated headers with extension pipe to replace the front        muffler (Centerline part # PH115)

-  A new windshield from England

-  New weatherstripping for windshield, doors and trunk

-  Complete upholstery kit (not covers)

-  New OEM rear left bumper

-  Rebuilt wiper motor and alternator

-  New water pump

-  New cowl drain hoses set with firewall grommets

Please note that no titles are issued in NY State for vehicles of this vintage.  This car will be sold with a certificate of sale and statement of transaction.

Fiat set to invest $12B on new models, stop Euro losses in 3 years

Mon, 09 Dec 2013

Naturally, you'd expect a massive automaker like Fiat to have an in-depth plan to exit the current European-market doldrums, and you'd expect that plan to include plenty of new vehicles to attract those precious buyers that still remain despite the financial downturn. And you'd be right, though Fiat does seem to have a few unexpected twists up its corporate sleeve.
Perhaps the biggest shocker is a report that Fiat will completely drop the Punto, a car with mass-market appeal aimed at small-car buyers cross-shopping the popular Volkswagen Polo. Its replacement will be a five-door Fiat 500 aimed at upmarket buyers (sounds awfully similar to the 500L) that will be built in Poland. Lower-end customers will reportedly be served by variants of the Fiat Panda.
Borrowing a page from the BMW, Daimler and Volkswagen playbook, reports Automotive News, Fiat is said to have plans to reignite production at its Italian factories by retooling them to build high-end vehicles from Maserati and Alfa Romeo. These will be marketed as premium products, built by skilled Italian workers (who are paid wages that are 75-percent higher than those building Fiats in Poland), and will be sold around the world.

CEO says Volkswagen's buying spree is over

Mon, 03 Sep 2012

After adding Italian motorcycle icon Ducati to its stable and spending $5.6 billion on the rest of Porsche, Volkswagen CEO Martin Winterkorn says he's done shopping for a while.
"We have enough to do at the moment in taking our twelve brands to where we want to be," Winterkorn tells German newspaper Handelsblatt.

Fiat reconsidering Mazda-based Alfa Romeo roadster? [w/poll]

Mon, 03 Mar 2014

Alfa giveth and Alfa taketh away. With apologies to Job (he has gone through a lot, after all), that's how things are looking at the Italian automaker - whether it's the promise of new products or its impending return to the North American market. But it's especially true when it comes to new roadsters.
While Alfa Romeo is expected to unveil the 4C Spider at the Geneva Motor Show this week, reports are now suggesting that its other roadster project is being called into question. That project is a joint venture between Fiat and Mazda, which was set to produce a version of its next MX-5 Miata as an Alfa Romeo, and was even changing the design to accommodate Alfa's requirements.
Now it appears, however, that the whole project in doubt. The problem seems to stem from Sergio Marchionne's pronouncements that, as long as he's in charge, there won't be an Alfa Romeo built outside of Italy.
