1986 Alfa Romeo Spider Veloce on 2040-cars
Phoenix, Arizona, United States
1986 ALFA ROMEO Spider Veloce with 72K miles. Power windows and mirrors; Heat/AC – works well; AM/FM CD Player w/removable face plate; Remote fuel and trunk release (inside driver door). Subtle performance enhancements make this car run stronger than most Spiders, without being a harsh ride. Very nice exhaust note to pair with the smooth 2.0L Italian engine. This is a turn-key car, everything works as it should including cold AC. Cosmetically, NO RUST or cracks in dash. Repaint is 10 years old and makes this more of a 5 footer, some minor dings with minimal scrape on passenger front and rear bumper, but need to look close to see. With the blue ghost stripes and monochrome appearance, this car gets some notice. See list of recent work and enhancements below. 2004 (performance modifications by Besic Motorsports – Chicago) - racing cam - headers and exhaust - 5 star 16x7 wheels (serpent autosports in SoCal Type 3) w/Pirelli tires - replace shocks (Koni yellow); front springs, upper ball joints, T bar bushings, trailing arm bushings, fr/rr sway bars, rebuild idler arm - paint black (original color; removed most badging; painted bumpers, mirrors, w/blue wide ghost stripes) - Leather covered steering wheel - Leather covered shift knob - In dash CD player/removable faceplate 2010 - Replace fuel pump, fuel level sender 2012/13 - Replace electronic ignition - upgrade fuses to blade style - Newer Graduate seats (more comfortable than Veloce) - AC conversion to R134 - New battery (Optima Red) - New/reconditioned alternator - Replace all fuel lines - Replace radiator (reconditioned) and hoses - Replace door weather stripping, both sides - R&R brake master cyclinder - R&R diff seal - Coolant system flush - New floor mats 2014 - Reposition fuel pump - Replace fuel filter - Replace catalytic converter Other Items - Boot/Toneau cover - Bra - Original steering wheel and all manuals/diagnostic charts - After market performance air filter assembly (not installed) - Headlight relay kit from IAP (not installed) |

Mazda and Fiat finalize deal for Alfa roadster, next-gen MX-5 Miata
Fri, 18 Jan 2013Although a little bit later than expected, Mazda and Fiat have signed a final agreement that will bring a next-generation MX-5 Miata to the Japanese automaker and a new roadster to Alfa Romeo. When the proposed arrangement was announced back in May, the two automakers had hoped to seal the deal last year, but it doesn't appear that the production timeline for these cars has slipped any, with both expected to start rolling off assembly lines in 2015.
Other than a shared chassis with a rear-wheel-drive layout, it sounds like the two cars are still planned to be distinct in their own ways from their styling right down to their engines. Mazda will produce both cars at a plant in Hiroshima, Japan, but it isn't clear what role each automaker will play in the cars' developmental process. The big question, of course, is what clever portmanteau name we can come up with, like Toyobaru. Mazda Romeo is the easy choice, but Alfazda might roll off the tongue a little better.
Scroll down for a brief press release from both automakers.
Marchionne offers belated apology for 'wop engine' comment
Wed, 22 May 2013Automotive News reports Fiat-Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne has issued a written apology for his comments regarding his decision to stick with an Italian engine for the upcoming Alfa Romeo 4C. As you may recall, back in January, Marchionne was quoted as saying, "I cannot come up with a schlock product, I just won't. I won't put an American engine into that car. With all due respect to my American friends, it has to be a wop engine." The CEO penned an apology to the Italian American ONE VOICE Coalition for using the racial epithet, saying that he made the comment in jest. Marchionne also said he realizes his remarks were unacceptable.
ONE VOICE, an organization aimed at fighting discrimination and stereotyping of Italian Americans, thanked Marchionne, Chrysler and Fiat for the apology. Marchionne is an Italian-born Canadian citizen, and he's gotten in trouble for other comments in the past. In 2011, he called high interest rates Chrysler was paying to the Canadian government "shyster rates." He apologized a day later.
Next-gen Mazda MX-5 Miata mule spied 'Ring testing
Wed, 23 Oct 2013Fans of simple, lightweight motoring, rejoice - we now have images of the next-generation Mazda MX-5 Miata undergoing testing at der Nürburgring Nordschleife. Now, to be fair, this isn't some lightly camouflaged example that will give us a great peak of what the next Miata, which will also become the next Alfa Romeo Spider, will look like. This is a mule, with the new bits hidden under a current Miata's body. That doesn't mean there aren't a few scraps of valuable information here, though.
According to our flock of camera-toting spies at the Nürburgring, the next Miata is likely to grow a bit, as new models are wont to do. In particular, it will be longer and wider, and the wheelbase is likely going to be stretched, based on the shape of the wheel wells and doors. Both of those factors will add more space in the cabin.
Those are the big indications provided by these photos, but while the MX-5 might be growing, it's a safe bet based on these images that it, and the (likely pricier) Alfa, will retain the classic, long-hood, short-deck styling that so typifies rear-drive roadsters.
