This 1992 Alfa Romeo Spider Veloce is an ideal project or parts car and is sold AS-IS, WHERE-IS. Was my father-in-law's, a big Alfa fan. Unfortunately he had a serious medical condition that VERY rapidly deteriorated his Alzheimer's and he died. After the estate stuff had been settled we wound up with this car and another Alfa (a 1994 164 LS for parts/project that we sold last month). This car "ran when parked" and the reason it was parked was because some electrical issue popped up (the fusebox is exactly the way my FiL left it as he was working on it). The car only has 38 thousand miles, is black/black and has a removable hardtop, also black. My FiL took forever to find it. As of the last time I looked, the Spider has zero rust. The interior is in good shape with no rips or tears and only 2-3 spots (the size of pencil erasers) where the suede on the driver's seat is worn. The car also has some aftermarket parts installed (any originals we have are also included) such as 16" Serpent Autosport Type 2 wheels and Pirelli P-Zero tires (we have the originals, too) , International Auto Parts performance springs (and I think also shocks, but I'd have to double check that) and an International Auto Parts chassis stiffener. It also has a "chip" from Squadra in Europe and the original is still in the glove compartment.
The top bow of the convertible top needs to be replaced, and the hardtop needs rear mounting hardware. One of the "vent" windows (I forget which) needs to have its lever re-glued. The owner before my FiL -- instead of washing it -- used "cleaner wax" so the paint will need a good polishing, and there are a couple of shallow parking dents on the nose that SHOULD pop out with one of those suction things the paintless dent removal guys use. It comes with the original cassette player. It came with most of the maintenance records. There are also fabric seat covers that were never installed and 2-3 Alfa books and a bunch of parts I can't recognize in orange and black Alfa Romeo boxes. There is also an extra "European" steering wheel and shift knob an a read badge that says "Twin Spark" (he was going to do that conversion but died before he could) and an extra turn signal cluster. And anything else we can find. When my husband connected it to a car charger, the dashboard lit up. But it won't start (it won't make a sound, etc.) and I don't know if the issue is minor (and therefore a cheap fix) or not. Our combined mechanical skills are fueling cars and taking them to the shop. (The shop that used to service these closed several years ago...) There is no warranty, expressed or implied or even incidentally hinted at. Therefore I'm starting this listing for only one cent and NO RESERVE. A $500 deposit will be due via PayPal within 48 hours of the auction's end, and the rest within 3 business days. Title is clear. The car will need to be trailered to wherever you are. We can help when the transporter gets here, but transport costs and arrangements are exclusively the winning bidder's responsibility. I'll try to answer any questions as best as I can but I'm not very familiar with these cars and not mechanically inclined, but I'll try my best. I figure the parts alone would be a terrific bargain and if you can figure out the electrical issue you may have a steal. Thanks! Alfa Romeo won't sully the GTA name by putting it on the Stelvio
Wed, Apr 1 2020Alfa Romeo began celebrating its 110th birthday by resurrecting the heritage-laced GTA nameplate on a track-happy evolution of the Giulia Quadrifoglio. Enthusiasts went wild when they heard the news, but the company warned it's not about to put the GTA name on every model it makes just to capitalize on its popularity. First launched in 1965, the GTA acronym has historically denoted a lighter version of an existing model developed with racing (or, at least, track use) in mind. The recently-unveiled Giulia GTA fits the bill; a Stelvio GTA wouldn't, according to the company. Executives thought long and hard about it and ultimately ruled it out. "GTA is an important name for Alfa Romeo. Frankly speaking, we had a meeting on a Stelvio GTA, but it's just not in line with customer expectations. It has to be the best possible [on the track]. On the Stelvio, we have a higher center of gravity [than on the Giulia], so it won't achieve the same goals," said Fabio Migliavacca, the company's product marketing boss, in a candid interview with British magazine Autocar. His comments suggest the 505-horsepower Quadrifoglio model is as hot as the Stelvio will get in the foreseeable future. There's no indication Alfa Romeo is planning to add a second sedan to its range — its next new model is widely believed to be a smaller crossover — so the GTA treatment will be limited to the Giulia (pictured). This could explain why demand for the car and its two-seater GTAm counterpart has been exceptionally high. The stripped-out, 540-horsepower sedans are limited to 500 numbered units combined worldwide. Alfa Romeo hasn't started taking orders yet, and it had the misfortune of unveiling the model mere days before the Italian government imposed an ongoing national coronavirus quarantine, but it has received more expressions of interest than it has build slots. Migliavacca revealed a majority of the enthusiasts the firm has heard from prefer the more hardcore GTAm over the slightly softer GTA. It's lighter, and consequently quicker around a track. "A lot of people are raising their hands and saying, 'I want to have one,' 'I want to have four,'" he said. "It's truly an amazing reaction considering the timing." Related Video:
Alfa Romeo's next GTV could arrive as an electric flagship sedan
Mon, Jun 21 2021Like every brand under the Stellantis umbrella, Alfa Romeo has until 2030 to prove it deserves to live. It's reportedly planning a major overhaul that could bring the well-known GTV nameplate back to the range on an electric sedan. Newly-minted company boss Jean-Philippe Imparato recently said he's "very interested" in making a modern-day GTV, though he significantly warned nothing was set in stone yet. British magazine Autocar understands that all options remain on the table, and one of them is putting the GTV emblem on a battery-powered sedan with a coupe-like roof line. Simultaneously GT and EV, it would be the Italian firm's answer to the BMW i4, among other sedans. It would slot at the very top of the lineup, at least in terms of price and probably in terms of performance. If the rumor is accurate, it would mark the first time the GTV nameplate appears on a four-door in the Alfa Romeo portfolio. It's been used on a number of models since its introduction on a gorgeous, Bertone-designed coupe in 1965, and they've all had two doors. Alfa Romeo came close to dusting off the GTV nameplate on a two-door version of the Giulia which would have been aimed at the BMW 4 Series and Audi's A5 line. While this strategy would have followed tradition (the original GTV was closely related to the original Giulia), the project was canned at an advanced stage due to a perceived lack of demand. Had it been launched, it would have offered a 50/50 weight distribution and about 600 horsepower. Alfisti who find the idea of an electric, four-door GTV unpalatable shouldn't worry yet. Insiders told Autocar that the nameplate might alternatively make a comeback on hybrid coupe; its fate hasn't been decided yet. Of course, it could also not return and remain in the history book, where it's been since the last GTV retired in 2004. What's seemingly certain is that new Alfa Romeo models are around the corner. One is the production version of the Tonale concept, which was reportedly delayed by Imparato earlier in 2021 due to issues with the hybrid system that will be available at launch.
