1992 Alfa Romeo Spider Veloce Convertible 2-door 2.0l on 2040-cars

This 1992 Alfa Romeo Spider Veloce is an ideal project or parts car and is sold AS-IS, WHERE-IS. Was my father-in-law's, a big Alfa fan. Unfortunately he had a serious medical condition that VERY rapidly deteriorated his Alzheimer's and he died. After the estate stuff had been settled we wound up with this car and another Alfa (a 1994 164 LS for parts/project that we sold last month). This car "ran when parked" and the reason it was parked was because some electrical issue popped up (the fusebox is exactly the way my FiL left it as he was working on it). The car only has 38 thousand miles, is black/black and has a removable hardtop, also black. My FiL took forever to find it. As of the last time I looked, the Spider has zero rust. The interior is in good shape with no rips or tears and only 2-3 spots (the size of pencil erasers) where the suede on the driver's seat is worn. The car also has some aftermarket parts installed (any originals we have are also included) such as 16" Serpent Autosport Type 2 wheels and Pirelli P-Zero tires (we have the originals, too) , International Auto Parts performance springs (and I think also shocks, but I'd have to double check that) and an International Auto Parts chassis stiffener. It also has a "chip" from Squadra in Europe and the original is still in the glove compartment.

The top bow of the convertible top needs to be replaced, and the hardtop needs rear mounting hardware. One of the "vent" windows (I forget which) needs to have its lever re-glued. The owner before my FiL -- instead of washing it -- used "cleaner wax" so the paint will need a good polishing, and there are a couple of shallow parking dents on the nose that SHOULD pop out with one of those suction things the paintless dent removal guys use. It comes with the original cassette player. It came with most of the maintenance records. There are also fabric seat covers that were never installed and 2-3 Alfa books and a bunch of parts I can't recognize in orange and black Alfa Romeo boxes. There is also an extra "European" steering wheel and shift knob an a read badge that says "Twin Spark" (he was going to do that conversion but died before he could) and an extra turn signal cluster. And anything else we can find.

When my husband connected it to a car charger, the dashboard lit up. But it won't start (it won't make a sound, etc.) and I don't know if the issue is minor (and therefore a cheap fix) or not. Our combined mechanical skills are fueling cars and taking them to the shop. (The shop that used to service these closed several years ago...) There is no warranty, expressed or implied or even incidentally hinted at.

Therefore I'm starting this listing for only one cent and NO RESERVE. A $500 deposit will be due via PayPal within 48 hours of the auction's end, and the rest within 3 business days.

Title is clear. The car will need to be trailered to wherever you are. We can help when the transporter gets here, but transport costs and arrangements are exclusively the winning bidder's responsibility.

I'll try to answer any questions as best as I can but I'm not very familiar with these cars and not mechanically inclined, but I'll try my best. I figure the parts alone would be a terrific bargain and if you can figure out the electrical issue you may have a steal.

Thanks!

P.S. That thin white line at the bottom of the hardtop is a scratch.

Alfa Romeo brings back the Quadrifoglio Verde

Fri, Feb 28 2014

With a history as rich as Alfa's, the brand has a wealth of symbology to draw on. Of course the Alfa Romeo logo itself has its own clout and allure, as do nameplates like Giulietta, Giulia and Spider. But another symbol from the marque's 104-year history is the Quadrifoglio Verde. The green clover leaf has adorned the most hardcore performance Alfas since 1923. The emblem was brought back to distinguish the top versions of the MiTo and Giulietta in 2009, both of which are now headed to the Geneva Motor Show in even more enticing form. The new three-door MiTo QV packs a 1.4-liter turbo four driving 170 horsepower to the front wheels through Alfa's six-speed dual-clutch transmission, giving it a 0-62 time of 7.3 seconds and a 136-mph top speed. The latest five-door Giulietta QV, meanwhile, packs a 1.75-liter turbo four with 240 horsepower – the same engine and six-speed DCT as the 4C, only turned around to drive the front wheels from the front end. It's good for a 6.6-second sprint to 62 and a 150-mph top speed. Both models come with a host of upgrades both inside and out, details of which you can read in the press release below. But one of the most enticing parts is the matte grey finish which Alfa is offering on both models, and which only makes us anticipate the marque's eventual return to the North American market that much more. The 'Quadrifoglio Verde' is back on Giulietta and MiTo - The legendary 'Quadrifoglio Verde' that has identified the top performing cars by Alfa Romeo since 1923 is back on the new versions - Giulietta celebrates its 60th anniversary with a new 'Quadrifoglio Verde' - True expression of Alfa Romeo's DNA, this car marks the debut of the new 240 HP 1750 Turbo Petrol engine with all-aluminium direct injection - State-of-the-art 'Alfa TCT' 6-speed twin dry clutch transmission - It's the same engine/transmission as the Alfa Romeo 4C supercar - Giulietta's flagship model can exceed 240 km/h and accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 6.6 seconds - New intake system highlighting Alfa Romeo's typical full, enveloping engine sound - New steering wheel, new instruments with dedicated graphics and QV logo and new leather and Alcantara seats, wraparound and sporty, with built-in headrest - New matt Magnesio Grey body colour exclusively created for the 'Launch Edition' special series produced in a limited edition of only 500 vehicles.

Alfa Romeo working on high-performance engines

Wed, Dec 17 2014

During the big Fiat Chrysler Automobiles FCA US LLC announcement of its five-year plan earlier this year, the strategy for Alfa Romeo was easily summarized by brand boss Harald Wester: "Go back to the Alfa Romeo that people admired." Easier said than done. With the 4C as one step in that procedure, we might see the next when the company unveils its midsize sedan in June with a trio of new engines with up to 480 horsepower. Anonymous sources at suppliers are already making some big claims about the new mills to Automotive News Europe. The top of the heap is reportedly a 2.9-liter, twin-turbocharged V6 making up to 480 hp, based on the 3.0-liter engine in the Maserati Quattroporte and Ghibli. Below it is a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder that's claimed to produce between 180 hp and 330 hp for rear- or all-wheel drive applications. Finally, there's potentially a 2.2-liter turbo-diesel four with between 135 hp and 210 hp. Little has been officially announced about the midsize sedan, but it was possibly spied testing recently hidden under the body of a Ghibli. It was rumored to be rear-wheel drive with a size between the BMW 3 Series and 5 Series, and a high-performance GTA version was also speculated. According to ANE, the vehicle won't be called the Giulia and won't hit the market in the US until 2016. In addition to the midsize model's engines, FCA is also reportedly working on an updated version of its 3.0-liter diesel V6 sourced from VM Motori with new 275-hp and 340-hp versions. They are likely slated for Alfa's future large sedan and SUV. Alfa Romeo Disco Volante Spider is a beauty in blue

Sun, Feb 28 2016

Be still our beating hearts. The beautiful blue sportscar you see above is the Alfa Romeo Disco Volante Spider. It's the latest work from Italian design house Carrozzeria Touring Superleggera, which is celebrating its 90th anniversary. As you can see, it's a work of art, but what you can't see is that, like the hardtop version that came before it, this car is actually based on the bones of an Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione. That means it's bound to be a rare beast, since only 500 8C coupes and 500 8C Spiders were ever built. Apparently, just seven of these droptops are planned, and each one will be painted in a different color. The hue we see on the car that's debuting at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show is called Blue Ceruleo, which we figure pretty much means Sky Blue. Here's hoping at least one comes in a green scheme similar to the one shown off at Geneva back in 2014. We don't have any details about what powers the Disco Volante Spider, but we'd guess it uses the same 4.7-liter V8 and six-speed semi-automatic transmission that powered all the original 8C models. That would mean 444 horsepower and 350 pound-feet of torque, a 0-60 run 4-ish seconds and a top speed of around 180 miles per hour. But the actual performance seems mostly superfluous to the Disco Volante Spider's real mission, which is to look pretty. You'll want to check out our image gallery for more close-up shots. And if you just can't get enough, it seems that someone with early access to the show floor in Geneva smuggled in a camera. Check out the video above.
