1974 GTV The car has been my wife's car for over 20 years. The car drives better than new. It idles perfect in traffic and is very fast with no fussiness. Perfect shifting transmission. The car receives a lot of attention in public - we're constantly answering questions about it in parking lots! Thousands of hours have been spent over the years to make this a very special car for my wife. Recently however (over the past year), the car has been sitting in the garage as my wife prefers to drive our Land Rover - it sits higher and she is able to see better. So the decision has been made to part with it. Complete body stripped to bare metal 8 years ago - all rust repaired and painted. All undercoating is original - look at the pictures of the wheel wells and you'll see original paint and undercoating. Always a California car. Complete front suspension rebuilt 12 years ago - sport front springs, sport sway bar and Koni Shocks. The engine is a 1750 Milano EVO factory turbocharged engine that I imported from England. It was rebuilt 7 years ago with forged CP pistons, with 7.5 compression, ceramic coating on the head, valves and pistons, complete balance and blueprinting, programmable fuel injection and crankfire ignition, wideband 02 sensor system , custom brass radiator and silicone hoses. Transmission completely rebuilt 4 years ago - syncros, bearings, seals. Custom Kevlar clutch replaced 4 years ago and all new clutch hydraulics. Driveshaft rebuilt and balanced 4 years ago. All rear suspension bushings replaced 12 years ago. Complete brake system rebuilt 6 years ago - calipers rebuilt and cad plated , steel braided brake hoses installed, new rotors, Porterfield R4S pads, complete new high pressure hydraulic brake booster system installed (similar to what is used on the 993 Porsche), giving it an unbelievable brake feel. Best stopping GTV ever. The car has been completely rewired with an ISIS canbuss system - just like a new BMW no high current goes thru the switches just a ground signal so headlights, fan switches, etc. never get overloaded and wear out. And, the system saved 30 lbs in wire weight. Also, it is self diagnosing and the outputs can be programed for just about any action. Another feature is that the battery will shut down automatically prior to it getting too low to start the car. Check it out at ISIS INTELLEGENT MULTIPLEX SYSTEM on the internet. High output alternator. Maserati air horns. AC /heater system completely rebuilt/upgraded 4 years ago - new heater core, new hi efficiency condenser with 2 electric fans and new Sandon compressor with all new/custom mounts, pulleys, hoses, dryer, converted to 134 Freon. New custom stainless exhaust system. New legal HID headlight system made by Sylvania (no China parts), Osram ballast and High / Low beam. New windshield and front / rear rubber. Power door locks. Ferrari 348 leather seats in near perfect condition. Ferrari steering wheel. Leather covered dash and console with carbon fiber inserts. All gauges, switches, warning lights and controls are in working condition with the exception of the heated rear window defroster (the wiring in the rear window is bad). Stereo is a Kenwood with iPod connection. 2 door speakers, 2 tweeters in the dash vents and 2 parcel shelf speakers. Bluetooth connects your cellular phone to the stereo system. Auto-electric antenna. Power port for charging your phone. New carpet and headliner. In lieu of the rear seat there is a custom carpeted covered compartment that houses the battery. The carpet covered compartment is a great place for the dog or stuff you don't want in the trunk. New coated fuel tank, high volume fuel pump, gas gauge sender unit. Trunk and engine bay paint is as nice as the outside of the car. We drove the car to Las Vegas last spring and got 29 MPG at an average speed of 80+ MPH! Buyer to arrange pick-up and delivery. Alfa Romeo will be expanding its lineup beyond the Tonale

Thu, Feb 2 2023

Last night, speaking with the press, Senior Vice President and Head of Alfa Romeo North America Larry Dominique gave us an idea of the Alfa lineup in the near future. The brand will be expanding its offerings, but not by too much. Alfa will eventually have five key models. It will have two offerings in the C-segment (Tonale-size), two offerings in the D-Segment (Giulia/Stelvio-size) and one in the E-segment (larger than Giulia/Stelvio). And as implied by our size clarification, we already know what most of those are, with the Tonale taking the C-segment SUV slot, and the Giulia and Stelvio for the D-segment. Dominique said the second C-segment vehicle would be something more car-like than the Tonale, though he wouldn't commit to saying it would specifically be a sedan. So it's possible it could be some kind of hatchback or maybe a coupe-like SUV. He was more vague about the E-segment vehicle. Considering the car market, some kind of SUV would seem most likely. As previously reported, this E-segment machine will arrive in 2027 with a wide range of electric powertrains from 300 to 1,000 horsepower. All of these new models will be fully electric. That includes the next-generation Giulia and Stelvio. The Tonale won't be going completely electric just yet, but it seems reasonable to assume a new generation model will be. Dominique noted that the Tonale, which is only offered with a plug-in hybrid in the U.S., is a good way to start introducing both dealers and customers to the idea of electrified Alfas. Apparently these five segments are the limit for Alfa for the time being. Dominique said that those models will cover more than 80% of premium buyers, and Alfa is trying to be "efficient" with how it covers the market. So don't expect the myriad bodystyles and niches from German brands such as BMW and Mercedes. There is one possible exception: a sports car. Dominique said that they're always interested in a sports car or halo product. He wouldn't commit in any way to such a product, though. With that being said, there's already been one teaser for something that might be just such a special sports car, maybe called 6C, a few weeks ago. We doubt that Alfa will launch a sports car that will stick around like the 4C, it will probably just be limited production cars that can be sold out quickly. Related video: A Night With Giulia

Share price falls on skepticism of Chrysler-Fiat five-year plan

Thu, 08 May 2014

Following this week's Fiat Chrysler extravaganza, where the Italian-American manufacturer announced its plans for the next five years, the Autoblog staff was cautiously optimistic of the company's future. Investors? Not so much.
Fiat saw its shares tumble 12 percent in Wednesday's trading, falling from 8.67 euros ($12.06 at today's rates) to 7.44 euros ($10.35) as of this writing, with blame partly going to the Italian half of the FCA marriage, which recorded a pretty significant drop in profits during the first quarter of this year.
The plan, which will cost around $77 billion over the next several years, is facing criticism from investors thanks in part to a 1.4-percent drop in Fiat's first-quarter profits, to 622 million euros ($862 million). That figure is also short of Bloomberg analysts' projections, which predicted $1.18 billion in profits before taxes, interest and one-time items.

A car writer's year in new vehicles [w/video]

Thu, Dec 18 2014

Christmas is only a week away. The New Year is just around the corner. As 2014 draws to a close, I'm not the only one taking stock of the year that's we're almost shut of. Depending on who you are or what you do, the end of the year can bring to mind tax bills, school semesters or scheduling dental appointments. For me, for the last eight or nine years, at least a small part of this transitory time is occupied with recalling the cars I've driven over the preceding 12 months. Since I started writing about and reviewing cars in 2006, I've done an uneven job of tracking every vehicle I've been in, each year. Last year I made a resolution to be better about it, and the result is a spreadsheet with model names, dates, notes and some basic facts and figures. Armed with this basic data and a yen for year-end stories, I figured it would be interesting to parse the figures and quantify my year in cars in a way I'd never done before. The results are, well, they're a little bizarre, honestly. And I think they'll affect how I approach this gig in 2015. {C} My tally for the year is 68 cars, as of this writing. Before the calendar flips to 2015 it'll be as high as 73. Let me give you a tiny bit of background about how automotive journalists typically get cars to test. There are basically two pools of vehicles I drive on a regular basis: media fleet vehicles and those available on "first drive" programs. The latter group is pretty self-explanatory. Journalists are gathered in one location (sometimes local, sometimes far-flung) with a new model(s), there's usually a day of driving, then we report back to you with our impressions. Media fleet vehicles are different. These are distributed to publications and individual journalists far and wide, and the test period goes from a few days to a week or more. Whereas first drives almost always result in a piece of review content, fleet loans only sometimes do. Other times they serve to give context about brands, segments, technology and the like, to editors and writers. So, adding up the loans I've had out of the press fleet and things I've driven at events, my tally for the year is 68 cars, as of this writing. Before the calendar flips to 2015, it'll be as high as 73. At one of the buff books like Car and Driver or Motor Trend, reviewers might rotate through five cars a week, or more. I know that number sounds high, but as best I can tell, it's pretty average for the full-time professionals in this business.
