ALFA ROMEO 1973 GTV. SERIAL # AR 3022012 MILEAGE 55 , 640 MILES IN GOOD PLUS TO VERY GOOD CONDITION. RED w/ BLACK INTERIOR ORIGINALLY SAND COLOR WEBER CARBS 40 DCOE 18 CURRENT OWNER SINCE NOV. 2002 MY CUSTOMER PURCHASED IT FROM THE BOSTON AREA. I HAVE SERVICED THE CAR SINCE HE BOUGHT IT. THIS GTV IS A NICE DRIVER THAT HAS HAD A GOOD LIFE BUT NOT A PAMPERED LIFE. IT WAS ORIGINALLY SAND COLOR BUT WAS PAINTED RED I WOULD ESTIMATE SOMEWHERE IN THE LATE 90'S. THE PAINT JOB IS A REASONABLE REPAINT BUT CERTAINLY NOT TO SHOW CAR STANDARDS. THERE WAS NEW SHEETMETAL WELDED INTO THE FLOORS ABOUT 5 + YEARS AGO AND THEN THE FLOORS WERE SANDED TO BARE METAL AND COATED WITH PRIMER AND PAINTED WITH RUSTOLEUM BLACK. REAR SEATING / DECK AREA WAS FINE AND NOT TOUCHED. SEATS AND CARPETING WERE REMOVED FOR THE ABOVE METAL REPAIR. NEW FRONT SEAT UPHOLSTERY KITS WERE PURCHASED AND INSTALLED BY A TRIM SHOP. REAR SEAT IS ORIGINAL - SEAT BOTTOMS ARE GOOD - SEAT BACKS HAVE A SMALL TEAR . DOOR PANELS ARE VERY NICE . THE DRIVER'S SIDE KICK PANEL HAS BEEN REPLACED WITH A PIECE OF WOOD VENEER. PASSENGER SIDE KICK PANEL IS ORIGINAL WITH MAP POCKET. PLEASE SEE PICTURES. HEADLINER IS IN GOOD TO GOOD PLUS CONDITION. DASHBOARD HAS A DASH CAP ON IT. SO ORIGINAL DASH TOP NEEDS RESTORATION. GAUGES WORK FINE. RADIO IS NOT WIRED IN. BODY HAS MINOR DINGS AND DENTS . BUMPERS THE SAME . FRONT GRILL HAS SOME PITTING COULD USE A REPLATING. EVEN THOUGH THE FLOORS HAVE HAD SOME METAL RESTORATION THE BODY OVERALL HAS HELD UP REASONABLY WELL. JACK POINTS ARE IN GOOD SHAPE ALONG WITH THE INNER SILLS AND OUTER PANELS. TRUNK FLOOR ALSO IS IN GOOD SHAPE ALTHOUGH THE SPARE TIRE WELL HAS HAD SOME MINOR REPAIR WORK DONE IN THE PAST. UNFORTUNATELY THE FRONT BOX SECTION WHERE THE FRONT STABILIZER BAR IS ATTACHED AND THE RADIATOR BOTTOM SUPPORT AREA IS RUSTED AND NEEDS REPLACEMENT / RESTORATION. PLEASE SEE PICTURES. THAT SAID THE BAR IS SECURELY ATTACHED AS IS THE RADIATOR. CAR HAS BEEN DRIVEN IN THE ABOVE CONDITION SINCE THE OWNER BOUGHT IT. ALSO WHEN I PERFORMED THE RADIATOR SERVICE / REPAIR I HAD NO PARTICULAR PROBLEMS REFITTING THE RADIATOR. GLASS IS GOOD AND SO IS THE RETAINING TRIM. CAR RUNS AND DRIVES WELL. I HAVE TAKEN A COMPRESSION TEST AND ALL 4 CYLINDERS ARE 150 + TO 160 PSI. EACH. IT HAS A FUEL INJECTION MANIFOLD ADAPTOR KIT [ SHANKLE ? ! ] FOR THE CARBS. FUEL TANK WAS PROFESSIONALLY CLEANED AND RESEALED BY THE RADIATOR SHOP I USE. RADIATOR WAS RECORED A FEW YEARS AGO. BRAKE SERVICE WAS DONE ALSO A FEW YEARS AGO. ALSO AN O.E. CISAM EXHAUST SYSTEM WAS INSTALLED A FEW YEARS AGO. GEAR BOX WORKS FINE BUT DOES NEED TO BE WARMED UP BEFORE 2 ND GEAR IS AT ITS BEST. A BOX REBUILD IS PROBABLY GOING TO BE NEEDED IN THE FUTURE. CLUTCH AND RELATED HYDRAULICS ARE IN GOOD CONDITION. SUSPENSION IS OLD BUT STILL IN DECENT ORDER. TIRES ARE OLD AND NEED REPLACEMENT. HEATER FAN MOTOR IS FROZEN AND NEEDS REPLACEMENT OR REPAIR. A GOOD USED SPARE HEATER FAN ASSEMBLY IS INCLUDED WITH PURCHASE. FAN HAS BEEN TESTED AND BOTH SPEEDS WORK FINE. WIPER ASSEMBLY WORKS FINE. MY CUSTOMER BOUGHT THIS GTV IN NOV. 2002 FROM THE EAST COAST / BOSTON AREA. HE HAS TAKEN GOOD CARE OF IT , GARAGED AND RARELY DRIVES IT. SO DO TO THE FACT OF HIM RARELY DRIVING IT HE HAS DECIDED TO SELL IT . HE IS A MOTIVATED SELLER AND HAS LOWERED THE RESERVE. PLEASE UNDERSTAND THIS IS BASICALLY A GOOD GTV, A NICE DRIVER BUT IT IS NOT A 90 + POINT SHOW CAR. I BELIEVE IT IS A GOOD CANDIDATE FOR A FUTURE RESTORATION . CAR IS OPEN TO ANY INSPECTION. PLEASE EMAIL OR CALL ME WITH ANY QUESTIONS. 847 - 480 - 8980 M - F 10 AM TO 8 PM CST. OR LEAVE A MESSAGE ANYTIME AND I WILL RETURN THE CALL. CAR IS STORED AT MY SHOP IN NORTHBROOK ILL. 60062. NORTHBROOK IS APROX. 25 - 30 MILES NORTH OF DOWNTOWN CHICAGO ILL. I HAVE OWNED AND SERVICED ALFA ROMEOS SINCE 1968. BUYER IS RESPONSIBLE FOR ALL TRANSPORTATION COSTS. I WILL DO MY BEST TO ASSIST THE BUYER AND BE AVAILABLE TO HELP WITH THE TRANSPORTATION AND / OR PICK UP OF THE CAR INCLUDING BEING AVAILABLE ON WEEKENDS IF NEEDED. Alfa Romeo Giulia Spider rightfully fawned over by Petrolicious
Thu, Jan 16 2014Following the Top Gear adage "You can't be a true petrolhead until you've owned an Alfa Romeo," is rather difficult for those of us in North America. Faced with a distinct lack of new cars and an equally disturbing abundance of vintage basketcases, the road to Alfa ownership is a difficult one for residents of the new world. Where there's a will, there's a way, though, and the benefits certainly seem worthwhile, as we see with Casey Annis and his gorgeous 1962 Alfa Romeo Giulia Spider Veloce 1600. Annis is the publisher and editor of Vintage Racecar Magazine, so he knows a thing or six about these classic Alfas. The video discusses his Alfa, which has been upgraded to Veloce specifications, as well as what the Alfa community is like as a whole. Petrolicious has the story on Annis and his Alfa in its latest video. Fans of classic Italians are not going to want to miss this one. The new Alfa Romeo Giulia needs to be a BMW beater
Mon, Apr 11 2016The introduction of the Alfa Romeo Giulia as a BMW challenger is a claim that historically has meant that it will not be as good as a BMW. Mercedes, Audi, Lexus, Infiniti, Cadillac, and a few others have tried to loosen BMW's grip on the sports sedan market with little success. It was BMW that was doing the copying when in the early sixties they looked to Alfa Romeo's sport sedans for inspiration. Alfa Romeo's pre-war racing pedigree was second to none, and series production Alfas were sporting twin cam engines, and fuel injection years before BMW. What the post-war Alfa cars did not offer was reliability and an North American dealer network that knew how to service or sell their products. Consequently in 1995 Alfa abandoned the US market. Now it is the Alfa Giulia taking aim at the BMW 3-series. The Fiat/Chrysler group has a lot of resources (think Ferrari), and the engineering chops to beat BMW at its own game, but it will take a long time to build a reliable dealer network, not to mention the quality issues that have dogged them for decades. Alfa will follow what has become a familiar recipe to challenge the 3-series. With 3 sets of trim available, the most affordable model, the Giulia, and further upscale, Giulia ti, both with a turbocharged 4-banger and 276 HP compares favorably with the BMW 328i and the Audi A4. The 505 HP Giulia flagship is shooting for the M4/3. Good luck with that, Alfa. A delayed introduction hints of troubles to come. Unfortunately for Alfa both the Audi A4 and BMW 3-series have millions of dedicated fans, most of whom do not have to be reminded about their automobile's pedigree. Millennial have never had the chance to aspire for an Alfa, and the older generations that still remember them are only a very small share of the market. Alfa has to avoid joining the automotive graveyard of models that have tried to attain BMW's status. Just to be cruel I will mention the Cadillac Cimarron. If you are too young to remember, it was the cheapest Chevy front wheel drive platform with a Cadillac badge. Panned by both GM management and the automotive press, it was a spectacular flop. I hope that the executives of the Fiat/Chrysler group remember it well. We do not need a Fiat in a stylish suit.
Chrysler appoints new heads of Alfa Romeo and Ram
Mon, 18 Aug 2014Chrysler has announced to two key appointments to its senior leadership, both of them taking immediate effect. First up is Reid Bigland, who has been named head of the Alfa Romeo brand for North America. Bigland has served until now as head of the Ram Truck brand, a portfolio he now hands over to Robert Hegbloom, who had served until now as its director.
As a result of the appointments, both Bigland and Hegbloom will take up seats on Chrysler's NAFTA Leadership Team, and Bigland will also join the Fiat Chrysler Group Executive Council - the highest decision-making body in the Fiat Chrysler Automobiles empire.
As per Sergio Marchionne's leadership style, Bigland will continue to serve in two major capacities, maintaining his role as president and CEO of Chrysler Canada. Other senior executives who hold multiple key portfolios include Harald Wester (who serves as the group's Chief Technology Officer and also overseas Alfa Romeo, Maserati and Abarth), Olivier Francois (group Chief Marketing Officer and head of the Fiat brand) and Michael Manley (head of the Asia-Pacific region and the Jeep brand).
