History:

----------

This car has been garage-kept and babied for the near 4 years I've owned it. No accidents. Extremely reliable car. Oil changed with full synthetic every 4,000 miles. Compressor failed recently, so the entire A/C system was replaced just to ensure no floating metal pieces would ruin the new compressor. New battery replaced in March, 2013. K&N lifetime air filter installed Feb. 2011, New throttle position sensor and front door lock actuators (these fail on nearly all TSXs). New starter as of December 2013. Probably 55,000 miles left on the front tires and 40,000 left on the rear tires (60,000 mile warranty on front tires w/ roadside assistance, included in glove box). Nothing else besides normal maintenance and preventative maintenance has been required on this car. Side note: the engine uses a timing chain instead of belt, so it doesn't need replacing.

How can a car look so good?!

----------

I use Meguiar's Mirror Glaze 105 and 205 polish with a dual action polisher and Meguiar's 21 Mirror Glaze Synthetic Sealant 2.0 to keep this car looking new. People are so surprised when I tell them what year this car is--they usually guess it's around a 2010.

Why I'm selling:

----------

I would love to keep this car, but my wife can't drive a manual transmission. I'm definitely staying with Acura or Honda after my experience with this car, though.

2013 Acura ILX 2.4

Thu, 17 Jan 2013

Going Mainstream Has Its Privileges
Acura's experiment with niche models has failed. Competing in the luxury car business by filling white space with product just didn't work for the Japanese automaker. In place of slow-selling models like its ZDX and quirky first-gen RDX, the mindset at Acura has recently switched to more conventional products with vastly improved volume potential. The redesigned 2013 RDX, for example, sold almost as many units in 2012 as it did in 2010 and 2011 combined, and the all-new 2013 ILX has sold more units each month - since going on sale in May - than Acura sold in ZDXs and RLs in all of last year.
While the redesigned RDX is a crucial product to compete with luxury compact crossovers, the ILX might be the most important new product for Acura, as a growing number of premium makes are starting to realize the importance of upscale entry-level compact cars. Ironically, this segment was a pivotal part of the brand's success in the 1980s and '90s thanks to the Integra, but Acura completely abandoned the genre when it killed off the RSX coupe in 2006. The addition of the ILX not only gives Acura a competitive small car again, it also drops the brand's entry price by almost $5,000.

Acura Concept SUV-X is where brand should be going [w/video]

Sat, 20 Apr 2013

We're not saying Acura should off their Concept SUV-X for sale as-is, we're just saying we'd like to see Acuras that are interesting to look at on the outside, rather than just being packed full of technology on the inside. Revealed at the Shanghai Motor Show, the Concept SUV-X joins other compact high-rollers like the MG CS concept as an entrant for China's compact SUV segment.
But this won't be a concept forever. Acura says that the SUV-X is the precursor to a production offering from the brand in China that will come "in about three years." A presser below sheds a little more light on this and the Chinese version of the RLX that will go on sale in a few months, and there's a short video detailing some of the concept's finer points, as well.

Acura ILX headed for Civic-like early upgrades

Wed, 12 Dec 2012

The not-yet-ready-for-primetime 2012 Honda Civic saw it quickly returned to sender for refurbishment, now the Acura ILX is headed in the same direction in its very first year. Automotive News reports that the small, Civic-based sedan from Honda's luxury brand isn't meeting sales expectations, with an annualized rate of 22,000 to 24,000 sales instead of the 30,000 the company is after. More telling is that the ILX "is being outsold by the Buick Verano, Volkswagen CC and Audi A4," and, except for two months since it launched, it has also been outdone by the Acura TSX it is meant to replace.
Part of the cause has been the 2.0-liter, four-cylinder engine: its 150 horsepower to motivate a sedan that can weigh up to 2,970 pounds doesn't offer the kind of performance or value experience that buyers in the segment respond to. Another big issue is that the top-level 2.4-liter engine is only offered with a six-speed manual even though most buyers of the highest trim don't really want to shift their own gears. Lastly, the ILX might not put enough space between it and its frugal underpinnings - our first drive review pegged it as "the world's nicest Honda Civic."
An automatic transmission is on the way for the 2.4-liter, but it isn't clear when. And while Honda admits that the 2.0-liter is underpowered and Automotive News says it's on the way out, the company hasn't yet said how that situation will be corrected.
