Acura builds 345-horsepower RDX A-Spec for SEMA

The 2019 Acura RDX is great — a return to form for the sporty compact luxury crossover. So there's no real harm in giving one the SEMA treatment, especially since it entails a real motorsport tie-in and some legitimate performance parts. As for the giant graphics, well, it's SEMA after all. Graham Rahal races for Honda in the IndyCar series, and he also has his own performance parts company — named, sensibly enough, Graham Rahal Performance — which he started in 2017. They sell some private-label bits manufactured by other companies to their spec, some off-the-shelf parts, and they do tuning and installation work on customer cars. Acura gave the job of building the SEMA RDX to Rahal. There's a fair bit going on under the hood to get the RDX to 345 horsepower from the factory 272 ponies. The 2.0-liter turbo engine gets a bunch of enhancements. The turbo, intake, exhaust manifolds, downpipe, and cat-back (a GRP design) are all aftermarket. There's a customer intercooler, too. KTuning did the ECU with a custom map. On the handling front, the RDX wears Eibach springs, StopTech brakes, HRE wheels at 21 inches, and Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires. The RDX started life as an A-Spec model in Apex Blue Pearl, and from there GRP applied carbon fiber garnish to the mirrors, grille accents, and lower fascia. Troy Lee Designs did the exterior graphics, and inside there's more carbon fiber and a custom steering wheel (courtesy of Max Papis's MPI Innovations shop). Acura launches ad spots for Seinfeld's Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee

Acura and Jerry Seinfeld are expanding their partnership as season three of the comedian's web series, Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee, prepares to debut. Seinfeld has paired with director Barry Sonnenfeld to create a series of ads for the luxury brand showcasing the new Acura RLX and MDX.
There are eight spots, written by Seinfeld and directed by Sonnenfeld, that seemingly mock advertisements of the 1960s, with a deep-voiced, smooth-talking host highlighting the cars in question. It's all very folksy, Leave it to Beaver style humor. We'd be lying, though, if we said we weren't reminded a bit too forcefully of Dodge's successful range of Will Ferrell ads when watching the eight Acura spots.
"My idea for Comedians In Cars Getting Coffee was to show this certain aspect of the stand-up comedy world in a way that comedy fans would enjoy experiencing as if they were there," said Seinfeld. "There is absolutely no doubt that without Acura's support I would not have been able to continue beyond the initial experiment. And now Acura has enabled me to extend the concept by creating ads that fit the comedy tone of the show."

2019 Acura RDX to race in Pikes Peak Hill Climb

Acura just launched the 2019 Acura RDX crossover, and what better way to kick things off than a little motorsport? That's right, Acura will be racing a modified RDX in none other than the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb. It's Acura's seventh consecutive year participating in the daring ascent, which sees 156 turns over the course of 12.4 miles. On June 24, the RDX will attempt the climb to the summit's elevation of 14,114 feet. To help its Exhibition Class run, the RDX's 2.0L VTEC engine has been given a larger turbocharger and an electric supercharger, which brings output up to 350 horsepower and 330 pound-feet of torque. The vehicle also benefits from race-tuned suspension, custom 19-inch wheels and Pirelli racing tires, and front Brembo brakes. Behind the wheel will be by Jordan Guitar of Acura R&D's North American Chassis Development Group. The RDX will be joined at the race by three other Acuras: a production-based NSX competing in the Time Attack 1 Class, and two TLXs in the Open Class. One is a TLX A-Spec with an upgraded suspension and 500-horsepower turbo V6. The other is a TLX GT with a modified twin-turbo V6 and suspension developed specifically for Pikes Peak. Related Video:
