Hondata's 2019 Acura RDX tune brings the mid-range torque

One of the big advantages to the era of turbo Hondas is that there's plenty of horsepower and torque left on the table for tuners to take advantage of. One of those companies is Hondata, and following its upgrades for the Civic and Accord, it's now tuning the Acura RDX luxury crossover. The RDX uses a turbocharged 2.0-liter engine similar to those in the Accord and the Civic Type R. In stock form, it makes 272 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque. With Hondata's Stage 1 tune, the company says that horsepower increases by about 10 across the rev band. Looking at the dyno graph, it also appears that peak horsepower increases by about 5 horsepower, and peak torque is up by about 15 pound-feet. Peak torque also appears to arrive sooner, and most of the torque curve seems to be up by 10 to 15 pound-feet. The increases in power and torque are available in all four of the RDX's drive modes. The Stage 2 tune increases power torque even more in Sport and Sport+ modes, and keeps Snow and Comfort modes at Stage 1 settings. Peak horsepower looks to be up about 10 over stock, but the mid-range sees as much as a 28-hp increase. Peak torque sees a huge jump of about 45 lb-ft over stock based on the dyno chart, and it's available even lower than the Stage 1's peak torque. Watch two Acura NSXs scorch the Nurburgring

Some intrepid spy shooter captured these two Acura NSXs blasting around the Nurburgring. Without being there in person with a decibel meter, it's hard to tell if they're necessarily louder than stock cars, but they sure seem quick. Why test the cars now, when they've been on sale for a while now? Rumors are swirling that this could be a hardcore variant. It's unclear if Honda would call it a Type R, but a midlife refresh with a bit more power or a special limited edition with some extra kick wouldn't be unprecedented. The original NSX had several such models, and recent sports cars like the S2000 had low-volume editions, like the Club Racer variant in the United States and the Type S in Japan. Watch the video and draw your own conclusions about what this is or isn't. One thing's for sure: It's not a pure-EV variant. Acura RDX Prototype to debut at 2018 Detroit Auto Show

Crossovers make money, plain and simple. Nearly every mainstream automaker sells or is planning to sell some sort of SUV. At the 2018 Detroit Auto Show, Acura will debut the third-generation RDX Prototype. This sleek concept isn't the final production version, but it is a good preview of what we'll see coming down the pipe from Honda's premium brand. Acura says this is the most extensive redesign in more than a decade, indicating that this is a ground-up redesign rather than an overhaul of the model that's been on sale since 2013. While the current model uses a 3.5-liter V6, the new RDX will likely use a turbocharged inline-four, just like the first-gen RDX. That 2007 model was a huge oddball in Honda's naturally aspirated lineup, though turbocharging is far more prevalent today. Look for a variant of Honda's 1.5-liter turbo-four under the hood and some variant of Acura's all-wheel drive system. The teaser video gives us a brief glimpse of the car, and there's more than a little TLX buried inside. Gone is the "beak," replace by the soon-to-be ubiquitous shield grille. All of Acura's current design was previewed with the Precision Concept that showed its face nearly two years ago. We don't have many other details, but we won't have to wait too much longer.
