Up for auction today is my beloved 1998 Acura Integra GSR. I purchased this car almost three years ago from Salt Lake City UT and I have enjoyed driving it immensely. I meant it as a restoration project but work has kept me busy, and now I now moving from Maine to Southern California with two other cars--so, sadly, my Acura has to go. As you can see from the pics, this the white, four door sedan, with the rare leather interior. The mileage is 148XXX. The sunroof works, the A/C works, and it has an aftermarket security system, as well as an aftermarket cd/stereo with USB and line in. Power windows/doors/locks all work as they should. The "Maintenance Require" light is on, which wasn't reset after my last oil change. The "Check Engine" light is not on. Condition-wise, the interior is in very good shape, but, being 16 years old, it does show some wear. The same can be said for the outside, especially the trim and hood. The front and rear bumper mouldings could stand to be replaced and the body could use a paint job. The trunk has a carpet lining (as well as an unconnected amp) and the trunk handle has been replaced with a plastic knob--all shown in the pics. Also, as seen in the pic, one of the wheel covers is missing. Mechanically, the car drives great. As you most likely know, the GSR is incredibly fast and handles nimbly. After I bought it, I had a tune up, addressed a few minor mechanical and suspension issues and had the timing belt replaced. I also had some work done to the exhaust last year, but it has gotten louder as of late, so I think its piping could use some attention. The front headlights need to be rewired (currently, only the low beams operate). The emergency brake is on its last legs and will need to be replaced at some point. Finally, the front left tire needs to be replaced. I was going to take the car into my mechanic to get these issues fixed and tack the costs onto the opening bid price, but I figured someone out there might be able to do the repairs for less and appreciate the savings. That about sums it up. Please feel free to message with any questions. You are free come take it for a test drive, although I do live in northern Maine on the border with Canada. I am happy to have this car shipped wherever you like at your arrangement and expense--or feel free to come pick it up. I will be here until the middle of September, so the buyer will have to have it moved by then. A $500 Paypal deposit is due within 48 hours of auction end and the remainder upon shipment/pick up. As this is a used car, it is of course being sold as is with no warranty. |

Powerball winner's first purchase will be used Acura NSX off Craigslist
Thu, 08 Aug 2013We don't play the lottery very often, but when we do, even a five-dollar win is cause for celebration. So we can't possibly imagine how Paul White from Minnesota is feeling after scoring a third of this week's $448 million Powerball jackpot. It has to be an overwhelming experience, but we think he's going to end up handling it well if his first press conference is any indication.
Like some of us, White has a pretty reasonable idea of what his first purchase is, and boy, is it a good one: an early Acura NSX. Yes, this man has class. Rather than run out and buy a clichéd Rolls-Royce or Lamborghini, his first instinct is to go pick up a $30,000 Acura that he has been eyeing on Craigslist for months. It's enough to make us wonder if he'll use his winnings to get on the list for one of Acura's new NSXs when they finally come around in 2015.
Watch White describe what it is about the NSX that makes heart skip a beat in the press conference video from USA Today below (note: video autoplays).
10 automakers sued over keyless ignitions
Thu, Aug 27 2015Keyless ignition has rapidly proliferated throughout the auto industry to become a fairly normal feature on new cars. It's supposed to offer the convenience of keeping the fob in your pocket and just pressing a button to drive away. However, ten major automakers are now being sued in US District Court over claims that the system is dangerous, Reuters reports. The suit alleges that people are forgetting to shut off the engine, and the lack of an idle timer is the cause for 13 deaths by carbon monoxide poisoning and multiple injuries. The suit currently includes 28 plaintiffs, according to Reuters, but the lawyers are asking for class-action status to potentially add many more. The case goes after a major swath of the industry, including BMW, Daimler, FCA, Ford, General Motors, Honda, Hyundai, Nissan, Toyota, and Volkswagen, plus their related brands like Acura, Infiniti, Mini, and Lexus. In all, over five million vehicles are affected. The assertion here is that people walk away from their vehicle without shutting it off because they believe the engine shuts off automatically. If parked in a garage, carbon monoxide can build up, leading to poisoning. The lawyers claim automakers know this is a problem and also cite 27 complaints to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration about the issue, according to Reuters. The plaintiffs are asking for an automatic shut-off and damages from the companies. These concerns have come up before, though. Toyota previously faced a lawsuit over a carbon monoxide death after a woman accidentally left her Lexus running. Also earlier this year, GM recalled 64,186 examples of the 2011-2013 Chevrolet Volt because owners weren't shutting them off. The problem resulted in two injuries, and the company released a software update to limit the idling time.
Acura ILX Type S could get 300-hp turbo four
Wed, Feb 11 2015There's good news and bad news when it comes to the new Honda Civic Type R. The good news is that after more than a year of prototypes and concepts, the Japanese automaker's new hot hatch is about to make its production debut next month. The bad news is that it's not coming here, but there is a silver lining in even that dark rain cloud – namely, that Honda plans on slotting its 2.0-liter VTEC turbo four into something that it will actually offer Stateside. Earlier rumors suggested the US donor vehicle would also be a Civic, but the latest intel indicates it could be something different, albeit related. According to Car and Driver, which spoke recently with Acura product planning manager Gary Robinson, Honda's luxury division could be gearing up to shoehorn the engine into the recently updated ILX – which itself is based on the Civic. "Acura is always going to get the best engines Honda makes," said Robinson. "Obviously a 2.0-liter turbo is more of a must-have in the luxury world than it is in the mainstream" market, suggesting that an ILX Type S could be in the works with upwards of 300 horsepower. Getting it to fit, though, could prove a rather large challenge – and could mean the engine swap would have to wait until the next-generation model comes around. Considering that the ILX was just updated for 2016, C/D doesn't expect the full redesign to come until 2018 at the earliest. Here's hoping that if it takes that long, Honda will slot the engine into something else for US showrooms in the meantime. The revival of the Type S badge in and of itself, however, makes for an enticing prospect. The last time we saw it used was on the larger TL sedan, which upgraded the 3.2-liter V6 from the 225 horsepower to 260. Before that, the RSX jumped from 160 horsepower in the base model to 200 in the first Type S, 210 in the second and 217 in the ultimate Type R. As it stands, the new ILX (after dropping the hybrid and base 2.0 models, is powered exclusively by a 2.4-liter inline four with 201 hp on tap.
