I have my 2004 Acura MDX 7 passenger for sale. Vehicle is in great mechanical condition. Changed oil every 3,000 miles with synthetic blend since ownership. Vehicle is equipped with BOSE stereo, rear DVD system, and 6 disc CD changer from factory. Installed HID headlight system. Full tune up was performed at 135,000 including spark plugs, carbon decarb of upper intake system, transmission fluid flush, front/rear differential and transfer case fluid flushes, brake fluid flush, coolant flush. Recently replaced alternator and battery. Brand new tires installed with less than 300 miles on them. Replaced several parts within the last year including lower ball joints, tie rod ends, motor mounts, sway bar end links and bushings, front struts, brake pads and rotors. Interior leather show signs of wear to be expected with age. Exterior has some paint chips and small crack in paint at rear quarter panel from parking lot impact. Vehicle is all wheel drive and is excellent in poor weather conditions. Any questions, feel free to ask. Thanks!
2004 Acura MDX

Bottom Line:

The popular MDX sport-utility vehicle just keeps getting better.
Pros:
  • More power and safety items
  • Roomy
  • Good ride and handling
Cons:
  • Mediocre fuel economy
  • Tight third-row seat

Changes to the latest version of the Acura MDX sport-utility vehicle promise to help it maintain its considerable popularity.

The 2004 model gets revised styling, more power and additional safety features, although its third-row seat area is best suited to diminutive occupants.

The all-wheel-drive MDX is from Honda's upscale Acura division and has been a hit since introduced for 2001 because it's above-average in most respects and is loaded with equipment.

Car-like
The 7-passenger MDX is more car-like than truck-like with such features as an all-independent suspension because it shares its basic design with Honda's Pilot sport ute and is based on the Honda Odyssey minivan platform.

Forget serious off-road driving because there's no low-range gearing with the all-wheel-drive setup, whichdoes let the MDX normally cruise in front-wheel-drive mode to save fuel.

Added for the 2003 model were an optional DVD entertainment system and a rearview television camera that shows what's behind when backing up, along with a new engine with 20 additional horsepower.

Sportier Look
The latest version gets a sportier look, with a more tapered front fascia, redesigned front bumper with a new spoiler and revamped headlight treatment with a more angular design and projector beam headlights. The rear fascia has new taillights and dual exhaust tips. Brushed metal-look instrument panel trim helps dress up the interior

A new tire-pressure monitoring system uses sensors in the valve stem of each wheel to alert a driver via an indicator when pressure in one or more tires falls significantly below the recommended level. Also new are head-protecting side-curtain airbags for all three rows of seats in case of a side collision or rollover.

More Power
A dual exhaust system increases horsepower of the smooth 3.5-liter V6 to 265 from 260, besides adding more torque and lowering emissions.

Equipment levels significantly affect list prices. The base MDX costs $36,400 and has enough equipment to satisfy most buyers. The $39,000 Touring version adds such items as a front power passenger seat and higher-line sound system.

Prices top the $40,000 mark to cost $41,200 with a navigation system and rearview camera and go to $42,700 with a navigation system and DVD player.

Responsive Transmission
The sophisticated V6 works with a responsive 5-speed automatic transmission with a first gear that has extra pulling power to start with heavy loads and a high top gear for quiet highway cruising.

The MDX has lots of power and weighs a hefty 4,451 pounds. Fuel economy thus is only an estimated 17 mpg in the city and 23 on the highway. Moreover, premium fuel is required.

Fun to Drive
The MDX is fun to drive. Acceleration is strong, and the fast steering is nicely weighted. Handling is very good as long as you don't try to drive as if in a Porsche Cayenne sport ute. Helping stability are a low center of gravity, front and rear stabilizer bars, large 17-inch wheels and a wide track.

Stability is enhanced by a Vehicle Stability Assist system. That system works with the all-wheel-drive system and electronic "drive-by-wire" throttle control system to provide enhanced control during acceleration, cornering and braking. The brake pedal has a linear feel, and stopping distances are short during moderately hard braking.

Easy Entry
It's easy to get in and out with the low floor, and there's plenty of room in the first and second rows of seats. The tight third-seat area is hard to reach, although the second-row seat now slides forward more to make it easier to enter or leave that area.

Occupants sit high in the quiet interior, which has supportive front seats. Gauges are backlit even during the day for quick reading, and the large, nicely placed controls are easily used. There are plenty of cupholders, and doors have storage pockets.

There isn't much cargo room in the quiet, upscale interior with the third seat in its upright position. Second- and third-row seats fold flat to the floor for a large cargo area.

The refined MDX has a lot going for it, but it faces formidable new rivals such as the BMW X3 and Volkswagen Touareg.

Acura ILX headed for Civic-like early upgrades

Wed, 12 Dec 2012

The not-yet-ready-for-primetime 2012 Honda Civic saw it quickly returned to sender for refurbishment, now the Acura ILX is headed in the same direction in its very first year. Automotive News reports that the small, Civic-based sedan from Honda's luxury brand isn't meeting sales expectations, with an annualized rate of 22,000 to 24,000 sales instead of the 30,000 the company is after. More telling is that the ILX "is being outsold by the Buick Verano, Volkswagen CC and Audi A4," and, except for two months since it launched, it has also been outdone by the Acura TSX it is meant to replace.
Part of the cause has been the 2.0-liter, four-cylinder engine: its 150 horsepower to motivate a sedan that can weigh up to 2,970 pounds doesn't offer the kind of performance or value experience that buyers in the segment respond to. Another big issue is that the top-level 2.4-liter engine is only offered with a six-speed manual even though most buyers of the highest trim don't really want to shift their own gears. Lastly, the ILX might not put enough space between it and its frugal underpinnings - our first drive review pegged it as "the world's nicest Honda Civic."
An automatic transmission is on the way for the 2.4-liter, but it isn't clear when. And while Honda admits that the 2.0-liter is underpowered and Automotive News says it's on the way out, the company hasn't yet said how that situation will be corrected.

Acura recalls 2013-2014 ILX, ILX Hybrid over fire-prone headlamps

Wed, 09 Jul 2014

The Acura ILX just can't seem to catch a break. The Japanese automaker recently decided that the ILX Hybrid would no longer be offered in the US for the 2015 model year. Now, a possibility for fires has also cropped up in the compact luxury sedan. Acura has announced a recall of 14,078 examples from the 2013 and 2014 model years because the headlights could overheat and ignite the car. The company also issued a stop-sale for examples still at dealers until they can be repaired.
The campaign covers ILX and ILX Hybrid models with halogen projector headlights from specific build dates. The problem is that the headlights aren't cooled sufficiently when the cars aren't moving. After several hours of sitting with them on, it's possible for the lights to build up so much heat that they melt and potentially cause a fire.
To Acura's knowledge, there was only one case of an ILX actually catching fire due to this problem, though. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration defect notice, a car was idling at a dealer for about two hours when the model went up in flames. The automaker brought the vehicle in for a detailed investigation to find what caused the blaze.

Acura ILX Hybrid discontinued for 2015

Tue, 17 Jun 2014

Earlier today, Acura issued a press release detailing its entry-level 2015 ILX range, but something was missing. Honda's luxury arm listed all of the information about the naturally aspirated 2.0-liter and 2.4-liter ILX models, but nothing was said about the Hybrid - a model that, when we reviewed it in 2013, left us utterly cold. But now we know why: Acura has confirmed to Autoblog that the ILX Hybrid will be discontinued for the 2015 model year.
The company issued the following statement to us regarding the hybrid's demise:
The 2015 ILX remains a standout choice in the entry premium segment with its combination of performance, luxury, refinement and value and is the top-selling luxury vehicle to younger buyers. Based on the stronger appeal of the ILX 2.0 and 2.4 models, we are streamlining the ILX lineup to better align with customer demand, Acura will no longer offer the ILX Hybrid starting with the 2015 model year.
