Acura to unveil 2019 RDX production version in New York

Acura says it will unveil the all-new 2019 RDX crossover at the New York International Auto Show along with a new A-Spec sport variant. Acura unveiled the RDX Prototype in January in Detroit, saying it was a close representation of the production version, save for the more concept-y side mirrors and larger wheels. It released a teaser image Monday of the A-Spec front end featuring a special badge along the side fender. It's the first application of the sport appearance, which the company says "adds sport appearance detailing, inside and out," on an Acura SUV and is supposed to be part of all core Acura models in the future. View 12 Photos Due to go on sale midyear, the 2019 RDX was designed and developed in the U.S. for the first time. Its styling is courtesy of the brand's design studio in Los Angeles, while engineering was handled in Raymond, Ohio. It's set to be built at Acura's assembly plant in East Liberty, Ohio, while the 2.0-liter four-cylinder VTEC Turbo engine will be made in nearby Anna, Ohio. The third-generation of the crossover takes its cues from the Precision Concept and Precision Cockpit concept, both from 2016. It gets a new Acura-only platform that sheds weight and stiffens the body, and it adds more interior space, rear legroom and cargo space, a panoramic sliding moonroof. Acura recalling 19.5K cars over automatic braking problem

Acura is recalling 19,502 vehicles to fix a software issue with their Collision Mitigation Braking System on the 2014-2015 MDX and RLX, plus the 2014 RLX Sport Hybrid. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration the technology can falsely interpret things like metal fences and guardrails along the side of the road as obstacles and unexpectedly apply "emergency braking force." Obviously, that would be rather disconcerting while driving. Number of Auto Recalls by Model Year | AxleGeeks According to the detailed documents from NHTSA, the first account of this happening came from Japan in November 2013, and that vehicle was rear-ended when the system suddenly braked. Another incident was identified there in June 2014. However, there have been no reports of this happening in the US. The fix is quite simple, though and just requires a software update for the system. Affected owners will be notified by mail, and the repair will be done at no charge. CONSEQUENCE: If the CMBS unexpectedly applies emergency braking force while driving, there is an increased risk of a crash. REMEDY: Honda will notify owners, and dealers will update the CMBS software, free of charge. The manufacturer has not yet provided a notification schedule. Is your new-car warranty good at the race track?

We've all heard the horror stories. Your buddy knows a girl that was dating a guy whose best friend's brother once broke his brand-new, recently purchased performance car while making runs at a drag strip or laps at a track day, and the manufacturer wouldn't cover the repair under warranty. True story? Urban legend? Complete crap? Yes, no, maybe. One thing's for sure: Automotive warranties have always come with caveats. In 1908, an ad in the Trenton Evening Times clearly stated: "All Ford Cars Guaranteed for One Year." Although it changed over time, by 1925 the Ford New Car Guarantee only covered 90 days on material and 30 days on labor, and it clearly stated that that there was "No guarantee whatever on Fan Belts, Glass, Bulbs, Wiring, Transmission, Bands, Hose Connections, Commutator Shells, Rollers, Spark Plugs or Gaskets." No question," he told us. "However, if the car is modified, say with slick tires or other components that would put higher stresses on the vehicle's parts and systems, then we would have to investigate the circumstances further." Marie went on to say the same would be true for any Acura model or Honda vehicle, including the new 2017 Honda Civic Si. This became a common theme.
