2015 Acura NSX burns to the ground at the 'Ring [w/video]

Assuming all goes to plan, automakers test their vehicles to the breaking point in the months and years leading up to that vehicle's actual release into the public. Which is good, because it's much better for a car to break in glorious fashion in the hands of the company that produces it than in the driveway of an owner who just spent their hard-earned cash to get it. Such was the case with this production-guise Acura NSX prototype that we saw running around the Nurburgring just the other day. We can't be 100-percent certain, but the burned-out carcass is wearing the same number plate as the car that was spotted earlier, so it's likely the very same NSX. We have no idea what was the cause of the blaze that turned this Acura into the car-b-q you see pictured above, but our spy shooters on the ground in Germany say it was not involved in any collision, having caught on fire all on its own with engineers behind the wheel. The good news is that nobody was hurt, though the car is quite clearly a complete loss. We're sure there's another ready to to test in the burned car's place... just as soon as the engineers at Honda figure out exactly what went wrong. Acura spotted testing high-performance TLX sedan

Back in January at the Detroit Auto Show, Acura promised to dust off the old Type-S moniker to inject some much-needed performance credibility into its current line of sedans and crossovers. At the time, the Japanese luxury brand co-announced a new turbocharged V6 engine and said it would be paired with its Super Handling All-Wheel Drive (SH-AWD). Now, a new set of spy shots has us wondering if an Acura TLX Type-S is right around the corner. It's obvious that the TLX seen in these photos has been blessed with some performance goodies. Large-diameter wheels are shod with low-profile tires, and there's a good chance the suspension has been lowered to match. Most of the camouflage is focused on keeping the fascia and hood covered, which means there are probably some air intakes and bodywork bulges to keep hidden away from prying eyes. Below this prototype's grille is what very well could be an intercooler, which bolsters the notion that there's a turbocharged engine sitting under the hood. And at the rear, we get a very clear look at the car's dual exhaust system. What kind of performance should enthusiasts expect from the Acura TLX Type-S? We'll have to wait and see, but the vehicles accompanying this prototype on its testing runs might offer up some clues. An Audi S4 (354 horsepower) and a Mercedes-AMG C43 (362 hp) were along for the ride. Since that's the case, we'd expect more than 350 ponies if the TLX Type-S is going to compete on at least equal footing. Related Video:

2016 Acura NSX grows into its updated styling for the 2015 Detroit Auto Show [w/videos]

It's not immediately clear at first glance, but the Acura NSX as it appears on the floor at the 2015 Detroit Auto Show is a far cry from the concept from the 2013 show. These days, the NSX packs a twin-turbo, longitudinally mounted V6 with over 550 horsepower on tap and nine-speed dual-clutch gearbox. Although, the three-motor hybrid setup remains with two units at the front and one for the rear axle. The numerous slashes and scoops make the design look much more aggressive than the earlier concept, but the changes go much deeper than the new skin. There's an inch of extra width and 3.1-inches more overall, including 0.8-inches extra length in the wheelbase. Underneath it all, is a carbon fiber floor and aluminum-intensive chassis to provide strength to harness all of its power. Unfortunately, Acura isn't specifically announcing engine output, the weight or the design's drag coefficienct yet, so there are still questions to answer. However production starts in fall 2015 with the order books opening in the summer. Pricing is among the factors that the Japanese brand isn't discussing, but it likely costs about $150,000 to park the company's latest supercar in your driveway.
