2020 Acura RDX Review and Buying Guide | Target re-acquired

The 2020 Acura RDX is a bold compact luxury crossover that represents a return to its roots – providing some athleticism and adrenaline to a segment not known for either. We think this is a positive development, as the previous RDX lost its way a bit. However, that last RDXÂ’s biggest strength was its very spacious interior for its overall size, which carries over to the new version despite the increased athleticism. These arenÂ’t usually attributes that go together; sporty vehicles can be smaller, with poor space utilization. That isnÂ’t the case here. The turbocharged engine and advanced all-wheel drive system mean the RDX is as lively as any crossover buyer could want. The bottom line is that it has more character and a superior combination of attributes than many of its sport-luxury competitors. WhatÂ’s new with for 2020? The RDX carries over mostly unchanged for 2020 after receiving a complete redesign last year. ThereÂ’s a turbocharged engine under the hood again, instead of the V6 in the last-generation model, and the technologically-advanced Super-Handling All-Wheel Drive system also makes a return. On the outside, the chrome grille “beak” has thankfully vanished, and thereÂ’s some nifty tech in the slick interior – although its signature touchpad infotainment controller is a mixed bag. More on that below. You can read about last year's changes more fully in our 2019 Acura RDX First Drive, but in short, it's sportier, more distinctive and more luxurious than its predecessor. Part of that is the fact it's no longer based on the same vehicle platform as Honda's CR-V.   View 9 Photos What are the interior and in-car technology like? The RDXÂ’s interior is a nice place to be. In the upscale A-Spec trim we tested, most surfaces are covered with soft, premium-looking materials, including perforated leather, soft-touch plastics, and classy-looking vinyl. The RDX introduces AcuraÂ’s True Touchpad Interface, which controls the infotainment system and its 10.2-inch screen with a center-console-mounted touchpad rather than a touchscreen interface. While itÂ’s certainly a step in the right direction, the system has a relatively steep learning curve and lacks any haptic feedback. ItÂ’s ultimately not as intuitive as weÂ’d like, and that is important because itÂ’s an interface youÂ’ll be using all the time in an RDX – including to interface with the standard Apple CarPlay functionality. Note that, as of this writing, Android Auto is not supported.

UPDATE: 2021 Acura RDX PMC Edition price set

The 2021 RDX is the latest in Acura's lineup to get the PMC Edition treatment. This limited-run, hand-built model follows the TLX and MDX PMC Editions and be finished in the same Thermal Orange Pearl that was pioneered on the NSX.  Blessedly, the "PMC in PMC Edition doesn't stand for pumpkin-anything. Rather, it's shorthand for the facility where just 360 examples of this crossover will be hand-assembled: Acura's Performance Manufacturing Center — the home of the Acura NSX — on Honda's Marysville, Ohio, campus. Each PMC Edition arrives in Marysville as a "body in white," ready to assemble and receive the paint process normally reserved for the NSX. The PMC Edition will be equipped similarly to an RDX with the A-Spec and Advance packages, with one exception: Acura's Super-Handling All-Wheel Drive system will be standard.  Otherwise, the PMC Edition is mechanically identical to the RDX, whose A-Spec already boasts a sporty exterior treatment to boot. The PMC Edition jazzes that up even further with gloss black wheels, a body-color grille surround, black chrome exhaust finishers, a gloss-black roof, gloss-black side mirrors and gloss-back door handles.  Inside, the theme is essentially inverted, with the black leather upholstery, steering wheel and floor mats all getting orange contrast elements. Apart from the serial number placard on the center console, the rest of the PMC Edition's interior is identical to that of a standard RDX equipped with the aforementioned packages.  Acura says the RDX PMC Edition will be priced at $51,000, with customer deliveries starting in October — just in time for jack-o-lantern season. 2014 Acura MDX priced from $42,290*

The fully redesigned 2014 MDX goes on sale in July, and Acura has now confirmed that its largest crossover will be priced at $42,290 (*plus $895 for destination). Unlike previous MDX models, Acura will offer the 2014 model with both front- and all-wheel drive (the automaker's fantastic Super-Handling All-Wheel Drive, at that), and this base price is for the standard, two-wheel-drive MDX model. At the base level, this new pricing represents a $990 decrease over the outgoing, AWD-only 2013 model.
Four trim levels will be offered across the range, all of which use Acura's direct-injected 3.5-liter V6 engine good for 290 horsepower and 267 pound-feet of torque, mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. Standard features include things like push-button start, Acura's fancy new Jewel Eye LED headlights, the next-generation AcuraLink system, an eight-inch multi-function display screen, blind spot monitoring and a premium sound system.
Moving up from there, the Technology package ($46,565) gains 19-inch wheels (18s are standard), forward collision warning, lane departure warning, a color TFT display, rain-sensing wipers and more. The Entertainment Package (bundled into one $48,565 model) adds rear seat entertainment to all of that. At the top end, the MDX Advance model gets unique wheels, remote engine start, 12-speaker ELS premium audio, adaptive cruise control and more. Adding Super-Handling All-Wheel Drive to any of these models results in a $2,000 price jump.
