Acura doubles CPO non-powertrain warranty to 2 years

On the same day Acura dropped a scintillating teaser for its upcoming Type S Concept, it also quietly announced some less exciting (unless you're in the market for a used Acura) news: It's improving the warranty that comes with its certified preowned (CPO) vehicles. Non-powertrain coverage is doubling from one year to two years, while powertrain coverage remains the same at seven years. Starting this year, Acura's Certified Preowned Vehicle Limited Warranty, which begins after the New Vehicle Limited Warranty, will be two years or 100,000 miles for non-powertrain coverage, a significant improvement from the previous guidelines of one year or 12,000 miles. Powertrain coverage is seven years or 100,000 miles, whichever comes first. In addition to the better warranty, Acura will offer new CPO customers a complimentary dealership maintenance service, which includes a check or change on the oil and oil filter, air intake filter, cabin air filter, rear differential fluid, brake fluid, and a tire rotation. Furthermore, CPO customers will get three free months of AcuraLink on a trial basis. Under warranty like in previous years, Acura will continue to offer "Motor Club Benefits," which includes emergency towing, flat-tire change, battery boost, emergency fuel delivery, and lockout assistance. Acura has strict rules for what can be considered for its CPO program. The car must be six model years or newer, so between 2014-2020, and it must have less than 80,000 miles on the dial.

VIN #001 went to Nascar Owner Rick Handpick. He paid $1.2M at auction for the first NSX. The proceeds went to charity. The 2017 NSX uses a twin turbo V6 teamed with three electric motors to make a total of 573-hp and 476-lb.ft of torque. The supercar also runs a nine speed dual clutch transmission and AWD. The starting price is $157,800 but you can option this thing out to well over $200k. Ford Motor Company applied this month to get the rights to the trademark for the word Zephyr. Lincoln is using some real names again aside from these MKC and MKX things that don't mean a lot to the general public. The Navigator is going strong and a new one comes on next year. Plus it brought back the Continental which was a well revived move. So Zephyr should ring a bell it was used in the 1930s and 40s, it was also used a little less memorably in 2006 on a Lincoln model that was essentially a rebadged Ford Fusion. Honda exec says US market near capacity, could hurt subprime buyers

Is there a point in the US auto industry where companies should start considering the welfare of their customers ahead of selling more cars? American Honda Executive Vice President of Sales John Mendel thinks that level exists, and we may be getting very close to it.
According to Automotive News, Mendel believes that finding more customers in the market could require pursuing subprime buyers and offering longer-term loans. However, he refuses to use those tactics. While selling models this way can improve things briefly, the strategies hurt resale prices and lower vehicle profits over time. The company won't do "stupid things in the short-term that damage the person who bought yesterday," he said to Automotive News. "It's a very, very short-term tactic especially in the subprime area."
American Honda, which combines the Acura and Honda brands, has seen market share decline from 9.7 percent to 9.1 percent through July 2014, according to Automotive News, and Autoblog's By the Numbers stats showed it posted falling sales in five of the seven months with data this year. Though, Mendel claims that was partially because the company focused on retail sales over fleets. The delays of the launches for the Honda Fit and Acura TLX likely didn't help either.
