The 2007 Acura RDX is one of the few vehicles on the market that combines handling, good power, the latest technology, and room for five with nearly 30 cubic feet of cargo space. This new model is a sharply-styled cute-ute that could give fashion lessons to other SUVs.The snazzy interior is even more up to date than the hip exterior. The comfortable leather seats not only offer plenty of back and thigh support, they score well in the oft-neglected shoulder support category.The 2.3L DOHC 16-valve i-VTEC is Honda's first turbo motor sold in the U.S. Unlike many turbo engines that play up top-end-bang at the cost of bottom end grunt, this engine has both. It pumps out 240-horsepower at 6,000 rpms, yet it also generates 260 ft-lbs of torque at only 4,500 rpms. In other words you won't get surprised by a big rush of power mid-corner, or be too disappointed if you were towing a trailer with your RDX.A five-speed automatic transmission with nicely-placed paddle shifters helps to let you forget you're behind the wheel of a 65-inch tall, 3,935-lb familymobile. But it is the latest version of Acura's Super Handling All-Wheel Drive (SH-AWD) system that really makes those four 235/55R18 all-season tires put the power to the pavement. It not only apportions power front to rear, but also from side-to-side in the back, resulting in handling that is amazingly crisp for an SUV. The ride isn't too bad either.The RDX may seem a bit pricy with its $32,995 starting cost. But it includes such upmarket items as a 360-watt AM/FM stereo with six-disc in-dash CD changer and MP3 player, and XM satellite radio. Safety is covered by front air bags, front side air bags, side curtain air bags with rollover sensor, and four-wheel ABS-equipped disc brakes. Luxury items include dual-zone automatic climate control system and a power moonroof.

Honda CEO says we shouldn't expect any new sports cars

It wasn't so long ago that Honda was known for its sporty two-door models, with models ranging from the Civic del Sol to the Prelude and from the Acura Integra and RSX to the Honda S2000. But look at its range today and all you'll see are the Civic and Accord coupes. Honda has essentially let competitors like the Scion FR-S/Subaru BRZ and Nissan 370Z take the place it once claimed as its own. But if you were hoping Honda would fight back with a new coupe or convertible of its own, we're afraid you're going to have to downgrade those hopes to pipe dreams.
While in Japan ahead of the Tokyo Motor Show, Autoblog had a chance to sit down with American Honda CEO Tetsuo Iwamura (pictured at right). When we asked about the potential for a new sports coupe or convertible in the Honda or Acura lineup, he pointed to the current Civic and Accord coupes - not to mention the upcoming new NSX - but said that Honda has no replacement for any of the aforementioned models (or a rival for the FR-S or 370Z) in the pipeline, saying only that the company is monitoring potential demand.
What Iwamura-san did note was that he's a personal fan of the new S660 roadster (pictured above) set to be unveiled tomorrow, and he is pushing (or at least hoping) that it will come to North America. Given that he's head of both Honda's American office and its global automobile operations, one might think that the only person he would have to persuade is himself (well... himself, and potential buyers), but the sporty droptop looks to be about kei-sized, which sadly suggests that it may be too small for American tastes and perhaps not designed with US crash-test standards in mind anyway.

Immediately after landing at Washington's Dulles airport, an Acura representative handed me the keys to a 2014 TSX with fewer than 180 miles on its clock. The four-cylinder engine started and I pointed its signature beak towards a destination in Middleburg, VA. It was a curious move by the Japanese automaker, especially considering that I had flown no less than 2,300 miles to drive the discontinued vehicle's ostensible successor, the all-new 2015 Acura TLX.
Yet spending a solid 40 minutes with a sparkling-new version of the outgoing model that still smelled showroom fresh, allowed me an opportunity to scrutinize the dropped sedan and remind myself why it had never really blown me away - it was good at doing many things, but truly great at doing none.
Time with the TSX also started me thinking about the Acura TL, the second model that the TLX will effectively replace. I have better memories of the slightly larger sedan, especially the SH-AWD 6MT trim - it's a solid driver's car - but it, too, fell short in areas where competitors, including the Audi A4, BMW 3 Series, Cadillac ATS, Lexus IS and Mercedes-Benz C-Class, excelled.

Acura may go all AWD in bid to mimic Subaru's success

Acura's struggles have been well publicized. The Honda-owned luxury brand doesn't seem sure of where it's going or what it's trying to accomplish, with its cars and marketing lacking a coherent theme. Now, a new report from Automotive News claims that the brand could follow the success of Subaru and (to a lesser extent) Audi, and adopt all-wheel-drive as standard across its model range.
"I think that's the way we should go," Acura boss Koichi Fukuo told Automotive News.
Acura already offers some form of all-wheel drive on every vehicle in its line aside from the lamentable ILX sedan. That could change as Acura begins rolling out next-generation versions of its still relatively new stable of sedans and crossovers.
