1997 Acura 2.2cl Premium, Rare 5-speed, Outstanding Pristine Condition, 34 Mpg on 2040-cars
Willoughby, Ohio, United States
This is a NO RESERVE listing.
This is my 1997 Acura 2.2CL Premium with the rare 5-speed manual transmission. The timing belt and water pump have recently been replaced along with other major service at the Acura dealer. This Acura is in AMAZING, OUTSTANDING, INCREDIBLE condition. You cannot believe how pristine and gorgeous this car is for the age and mileage. It is superb in every way- this car is a true find. Every so often you will come across a higher-mileage car like this that is in impeccable, pristine and incredible condition. These cars are incredibly rare. To find an owner who is willing to keep a car in superb, near-perfect condition for this long is amazing. If someone told you this car had 20,000 miles you would believe it. I cannot overemphasize how superb the condition of this car is. This has to be the nicest 2.2CL for sale anywhere in the country, regardless of mileage. The 2.2CL is in my opinion, one of the best products the Honda Motor Company made- it is a superb combination of bulletproof reliability, luxury and economy (34mpg highway). This car has the reliability of its cousin and platform-mate, the Honda Accord. It has superb luxury and amenities of leather and all power options and it is a very comfortable car. It also has outstanding fuel economy from its 2.2L VTEC 4-cylinder engine and 5-speed manual transmission. This car has everything going for it. I don't know where you would ever find a cleaner, better-kept example of this car. This car is in near time-capsule condition; it is truly outstanding. The paint and body are excellent. The paint appears to be original with no known accidents. The body is straight, clean, rust-free (ZERO RUST) and extremely clean in every way. Even the aluminum wheels are in superb shape and the tires are nearly new. The exterior and body of this car are just superb- you cannot imagine how a 1997 car could have been this well-preserved. The interior of this Acura looks basically like it did when it was new. There is practically no sign of use or wear in the interior at all. The leather seats are excellent, the carpets look new and the upholstery and switchgear is clean and excellent. There is no wear on the radio buttons, climate control buttons, shift knob or steering wheel. Every interior surface, switch and button looks like new. Again, I cannot imagine how the interior of a 1997 car could ever look any better. This car runs and drives perfectly. It has none of the typical high-mileage squeaks, rattles or clunks. This car is TIGHT, solid and drives just like a new vehicle. It is quiet, smooth and powerful. The engine, transmission, clutch, brakes, and suspension are all superb. There are zero known mechanical or electrical problems- everything on this car works just like it should. There are no warning lights illuminated. This is a totally reliable and dependable vehicle in every way. I wouldn't hesitate to jump in this car and drive to California and back. All of the power options and equipment are working- the power moonroof, power windows, power locks, cruise control, climate control and A/C, radio and CD player- all are working perfectly. I have a receipt from our local Acura dealer for a recent service which included the timing belt, water pump, drive belts, cooling system service, spark plugs and 4-wheel alignment for a total service bill of over $1300. This car needs NO known mechanical work and it is totally up-to-date on service and ready for another couple hundred thousand miles of driving. I see no reason this car couldn't make it to 400,000 or even 500,000 miles given the condition it has been kept in so far. This car looks better and is in better condition than most 3 year old cars I see with 40,000 miles. This Acura has the following equipment and options:
I have the original books and manuals for the car as well. This is a 1997 car and as such it is not brand new. Please expect normal signs of wear and use consistent with the age of the car. Here is a complete list of every known defect in the car, no matter how small: there are a few dings along the passenger side and on the passenger door (garage wear), the front and rear bumpers appear to have been repainted (correctly) due to stone nicks, etc. There is a tiny spot of wear on the side bolster of the driver's leather seat. There is a very minor rattle (heat shield?) and maybe the tiniest leak in the exhaust. You can fly in to Cleveland (CLE) and drive this car home. Alternatively you can have this car shipped, please call Angels Moving Autos at 530-245-0481 for a shipping quote. This car is kept in my garage in Willoughby, OH. Acura NSX to race in GT3 or GTE
Mon, Aug 10 2015Honda is reportedly planning to roll out a racing version of the new Acura NSX. It just hasn't decided yet on which class it wants to enter it into, to whose specifications it will build it, and which department will be tasked with the project. The original NSX competed principally in Japan's own Super GT series. So did the subsequent HSV-010 GT that was originally designed to be the NSX's replacement. But Acura's new supercar is as much an American vehicle as a Japanese one, and as such it looks more likely to compete on American soil. The options which Honda is considering boil down to GTE and GT3. What's the difference, you ask? Until just a few years ago, international sports car racing was split between GT1, GT2, GT3, and (to a lesser extent) GT4 classes. GT1 was phased out in 2009, GT2 was reformatted into GTE (with both Pro and Am categories), while both GT3 and GT4 carried on. Today GTE is run at the 24 Hours of Le Mans and its associated championships around the globe: the FIA World Endurance Championship, the European Le Mans Series, the Asian Le Mans Series, and the United SportsCar Championship. Meanwhile GT3 is run in series like the Blancpain Endurance Series and a growing number of regional championships. (GT4 is run in lower-level series for amateur racers.) Acura currently runs the TLX-GT in the Pirelli World Challenge here in America. But as the series moves to GT3 specifications as well, the company is facing the decision of either adapting the existing racer to the new regulations (and coming away with a potentially compromised package), or replace it entirely. The NSX could prove just the ticket, however the GTE class may ultimately give it more exposure. Whichever rulebook Acura opts to play by, it likely won't be running under hybrid power – an element which would add complication but not necessarily much benefit under current regulations. The automaker will also have to decide who will develop the new NSX racer, with both California-based Honda Performance Development (HPD) and Italian outfit JAS Motorsport (which fields Honda's WTCC team) eyed as potential candidates. Acura TL bursts into flames moments before being traded in at Ontario dealership [UPDATE]
Fri, 21 Dec 2012Watching your car burst into flames before your eyes is never good news, and it's even worse when you're mere moments away from trading it in at the local dealership. This Car-B-Q blaze apparently erupted at Acura 2000, a dealer in Brampton, Ontario. As the video tells us, the unlucky customer saw his 2004-2008 Acura TL trade-in suddenly catch fire and go up in resale-value-killing smoke.
According to the hyped-up cameraman (who evidently works next door at Northwest Lexus) and his eccentric play-by-play commentary, this Acura owner is about to be left without a ride home and might want to consider switching to a Lexus instead.
Scroll down to watch video of the drama unfolding as fire fighters put out the mysterious blaze before anyone - except the car - was harmed.
This is why Acura hasn't yet announced its EV strategy
Sat, Feb 27 2021Despite parent company Honda's green and friendly brand image, luxury marque Acura hasn't made a grand statement about electrifying their lineup. Even as brands like Jaguar, Land Rover, Bentley, and Infiniti pledge to entirely electrify their lineups in the coming decade, Acura has held back. The reason, according to Acura head honcho Jon Ikeda, is that it's focusing on reestablishing itself as a performance brand. In a wide-ranging interview with Automotive News, Ikeda says Acura came out of the gate strong in 1986 and did well for the first 20 years, but when the bottom fell out of the market in 2008 the brand experienced "growing pains." That spawned a period of self-reflection and, as Ikeda puts it, "What are we about?" The decision was made to go back to Acura's roots as the performance division of Honda. "That's what Acura is. That's what I fell in love with," Ikeda says. Ikeda joined Honda in 1989, but his promotion to Acura boss in 2015 was a surprise to many, including himself. That's because Honda had a tradition of putting engineers at the helm, and Ikeda was a designer, responsible for the looks of such cars as the FSX concept, 2001 Civic Coupe, and beloved 2004 Acura TL. 2021 Acura TLX Advance View 38 Photos When asked by AN whether Acura is worried that luxury competitors are putting stakes in the ground to claim EV brand identities, Ikeda says no. "For us as a brand, we needed to kind of refocus and reestablish ourselves as a performance brand... We want everybody to understand where we are, what we're about first. Even if we go electric we will continue to be a performance division of Honda and performance will be our focus." To earn its performance street cred, Acura poured resources into the second-gen NSX hybrid supercar, which served as testbed for how electricity can work harmoniously with performance. They will continue to campaign IMSA race cars to earn trophies as proof, and Ikeda also wants to bring more Type S models to the lineup. Ikeda says Acura is still in the process of rebuilding its foundation, but when he's done he expects people to associate Acura with performance. That sure seems ambitious to us, but products like the new TLX are a helpful stepping stone. It also explains why Acura is investing in different platforms to differentiate itself from Honda. To be clear, Ikeda isn't ruling out electrification.
