Volvo Concept XC Coupe does the full monte ahead of Detroit debut [w/video]

When the doors open at the Cobo Center next week for the 2014 Detroit Auto Show, Volvo will lift the veil on its new Concept XC Coupe. But you don't have to even wait that long. A set of images leaked out yesterday to accompany a teaser video released by Volvo, but now the Swedish automaker has revealed the full thing.
The second of three new concept cars aiming to show the way forward for the brand, the Concept XC Coupe follows the Concept Coupe revealed last September. Based on Volvo's Scalable Product Architecture, the Concept XC Coupe is expected to preview the next-generation XC90 crossover, but with two fewer doors and a four-seat cabin.
With orange details, matte rubber moldings and underbody skid plates, the design is said to have been inspired by outdoor equipment manufacturer POC - naturally also based in Sweden - whose products are favored by extreme athletes around the world. It rides on 21-inch wheels and incorporates T-shaped DRL headlights, with distinctive tail-lights earmarked to make their way onto the next generation of production Volvos.

Volvo's oldest model earns IIHS Top Safety Pick+ award [w/video]

Volvo ought to be tooting its horn over this one. The XC90, an SUV that has essentially been on sale for over 10 years, just captured a Top Safety Pick+ award from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. The TSP+ is a new title, reserved for cars that earn "Good" or "Acceptable" ratings on each IIHS crash test.
This is a difficult feat for a new car - Toyota's new Corolla infamously failed to net a Top Safety Pick+ earlier this year - largely because of the new small overlap front tests, which have left many automakers struggling. But Volvo, somehow, was able to conquer the tests with a car that predates the original iPhone by a few years. The XC90 earning a Top Safety Pick+ is like Betty White taking the gold in the decathlon. With Volvo in the midst of working on the XC90's replacement, we're curious to see just how well a more modern version does in crash testing. Volvo S60 Polestar Concept finally spotted in the flesh

The Volvo S60 Polestar Concept has graced the pages of Autoblog numerous times in recent memory, but we've never actually seen it in person. That is, until now.
We caught up with the blazing blue sedan sitting on the floor of the LA Auto Show, and it looks even better up close. As a refresher, the four-door is fitted with a turbocharged inline six-cylinder engine (3.0-liter) generating an impressive 508 horsepower. Its close-ratio six-speed manual gearbox sends power to all four wheels through a fourth-generation Haldex XWD system. With a decent driver behind the steering wheel, the Polestar can crack the 60 mph benchmark in about 3.7 seconds as it rushes towards a top speed in excess of 186 mph.
Volvo has said that this Polestar-modified S60 was built for a specific client who paid upwards of $300,000 for the pleasure of owning it. But as they say, if there is market demand for more...
