We are pleased to present this very nice 1999 Volvo V70 AWD.  These 98-00 V70s are developing quite a following among our customers, and we are constantly having people asking us to find nice examples of them (because of our reputation as a seller of volvos of this vintage). We often come across them, but rarely in the fantastic condition of this particular one. This 1999 V70 AWD was just traded in to us by a long-time customer who has bought several Volvos from us over the years. They lovingly cared for this V70, and it really shows. The car is in beautiful condition all over, and they did some pretty nice upgrades to the car during their ownership. Also, 1999 is one of the last years for the 4 speed automatic transmission which has been known to be virtually bulletproof. In fact, the engine and transmission configuration in this car will have no problem eating all of the miles you throw at it. We have seen several of these with 300, 400, and even 500k miles! It is very difficult to find a V70 AWD. Most are the cross-country version with higher suspension and the extra body cladding. This V70 AWD gives you all of the capability of the XC in the more attractive body of the basic V70. In all of the years we've sold these, this is the only one we've ever sold, and this is our second time selling it! It gives you the reliable and powerful low-pressure turbocharged 5 cylinder engine along with all wheel drive.

The interior of this V70 is in very good condition. The arena tan leather seats are in spectacular condition for the car's age with no tears and virtually no cracking. They're still very soft, and feel great. They're also heated for your comfort. Everything in the interior works. Even both cup holders aren't broken! The car has Volvo's exceptional high performance Alpine audio system with CD and cassette and 8 speakers. Volvos have incredible sounding stereo systems. It also has a power moonroof. The previous owner of this car was definitely a non-smoker. These cars don't even come with cigarette lighters, just power outlets. There is a cup holder that accommodates two beverages. This Volvo has dual front airbags, as well as front side airbags. The side airbags are part of a system called SIPS which stands for "Side Impact Protection System." This is a combination of high-strength door beams, specially designed door openings, and side airbags, which keeps the passengers safe in the event of a side impact. Because it has the climate package, it does have heated front seats, as well as heated exterior mirrors and headlamp wipers with wash function. The rear seats fold flat, and the passenger front seat also folds down for carrying very long cargo.

The exterior of this V70 is in remarkably good condition for the year and miles, and is silver metallic in color. The outside of the car is in very good condition, with only a few minor door dings, and is very free of scratches. There are also some light scratches on the rear bumper from loading things in and out of the cargo area. The timing belt service has been completed.

The tires are all in nice shape with excellent tread life remaining. The brakes are in  good shape and the car stops as it should. The legendary 2.4 Liter low pressure turbocharged 5 cylinder engine runs flawlessly and is very smooth. The transmission also operates properly. It's very smooth, while still handling well. All of the car's accessories work including the power windows and moonroof. The driveshaft has recently been replaced, as have the front struts and the steering rack and lines. We have also replaced the ETM (Electronic Throttle Module). These cars rarely have mechanical problems.

Embrace one-pedal driving in EVs and PHEVs

I just came back from a trip out to California, where I was able to drive the new 2022 Volvo XC60 Recharge in its new extended-range form (you’ll find that review on Autoblog tomorrow). One of the newly-added headline features for this plug-in hybrid SUV is true one-pedal driving. This is one-pedal driving in a PHEV, not a full battery electric vehicle, and as of now, one-pedal driving in PHEVs is exceedingly rare. Other plug-ins may offer levels of braking regeneration, but one-pedal driving is typically a feature reserved for full EVs. Adding the feature to the Volvo is a huge boost to the driving experience for me, and I sincerely hope we see it in even more PHEVs soon. In case youÂ’re new to the one-pedal driving game, hereÂ’s a quick explainer. ItÂ’s called “one-pedal” because most of the time, youÂ’re only using one pedal to accelerate and decelerate. Press in to accelerate; let off evenly and gently to decelerate via regenerative braking. The trick at the end is in slowing down the final few mph and bringing the car to a stop smoothly, which typically requires some practice and time spent figuring out how best to modulate the throttle pedal. Once youÂ’re stopped in a car with one-pedal driving, it should hold itself in place when you have your foot off the throttle, allowing you to relax your legs at lights. Applying pressure to the brake pedal would be unnecessary so long as traffic doesnÂ’t necessitate quicker deceleration than what the car is capable of via letting off on the throttle. The point, of all of the above, is that one-pedal driving in an EV or PHEV simply makes driving easier. Once you learn the car, not having to swap back and forth between the throttle and brake pedals makes stop-and-go traffic (or any kind of driving) a lot more relaxing to manage. The point of this story is to call out the lack of this feature in some EVs and nearly all PHEVs. Some of you may have already hit the comments to voice your disdain for one-pedal driving, but do note, while IÂ’m advocating for the feature to be present in all EVs, IÂ’m not advocating for it to be a required always-on feature. In fact, you should be able to turn it off and on at your whimsy. Many car manufacturers already offer one-pedal driving in their EVs, but companies like VW, Audi, Porsche and to a certain extent, Mercedes, do not. This is slightly irritating, mostly because those companies make some of the most desirable EVs on the market today.

World Car Awards finalists snub American-branded vehicles — except for Bronco

The list of World Car Awards has been whittled down to 10 finalists, but only one American brand — Ford — appears among the remaining nine carmakers for this yearÂ’s top award. The Bronco is there, and it also is balloted as a finalist in the design category. The other categories are performance car, urban car, electric vehicle and luxury model. Each category has five finalists except World Car, which has 10. One brand conspicuous by its absence in any category: Tesla. The winner in each is scheduled to be crowned March 27 at the New York International Auto Show in Manhattan. This year marks the 20th year of the World Car Awards and the partnership with the New York show. The selection process involves 100-plus automotive journalists from 29 countries who vote, as they review and test-drive the eligible vehicles for the 2024 awards. Their journey is captured virtually on World Car TV. If youÂ’re counting, the brands that appear most on the six finals lists are Mercedes-Benz (four times), BMW (also four), Hyundai (three), and Volvo (three). HereÂ’s the full listing. Volvo will start testing wireless charging with XC40 taxis

Volvo announced it will start testing wireless charging systems with its Volvo XC40 Recharge electric SUVs. It's doing so by creating a small fleet of XC40 Recharge taxis for Cabonline, the largest cab operation in the Nordic nations. The testing in Volvo's hometown of Gothenburg, Sweden, will last for three years, and Volvo notes that the driving conditions will involve 12 hours a day of driving with cars racking up 100,000 kilometers (about 62,000 miles) per year. The charging stations come from American company Momentum Dynamics. They're embedded into the pavement of the Volvos' parking spaces and begin charging automatically when parked correctly (which is aided by the on-board surround-view camera). The charging speed is 40-kW, which is close to the maximum charging speed of many electric cars' on-board chargers when connected to a DC station. Interestingly, Momentum Dynamics lists systems capable of charging speeds as high as 450 kW on its website. Volvo did not make any announcements regarding future availability of wireless charging.
