ON A TRIP I GET BETWEEN 25 AND 28 MPG AT 75MPH. AROUND TOWN I'M GETTING ABOUT 20-21 MPG. A/C BLOWS ICE COLD AND CLIMATE CONTROL WORKS AS IT SHOULD. ENGINE IS THE 2.4 LPT ENGINE (LOW PRESURE TURBO) . RUNS QUIET AND HAS NOW KNOCKS OR ODD NOISES. TIMING BELT AND PULLEYS WERE REPLACED AT 80K MILES. NEW FRONT BRAKES AND ROTORS DONE LESS THAN A 1000 MILES AGO. A NEW RADIATOR WAS JUST INSTALLED AS THE ORIGINAL ONE DEVELOPED A CRACK AND LEAKED LAST MONTH. THIS IS MY DAILY DRIVER AND WOULDN'T HASATATE TO DRIVE IT ACROSS COUNTRY. Automotive April Fools' joke roundup [w/videos]
Mon, 01 Apr 2013Happy April, everyone. And we all know what this first day of the month means: April Fools' Day. Today is a national holiday for pranksters with the Internet acting as a serious enabler, and it's always fun to see what kind of vivid imaginations exist out there in the automotive world. The abundance of fake news gets a little old as the day rolls on, but we did manage to get in a few chuckles thanks to a handful of major automakers and automotive news outlets that got into the pranking spirit this year
Some of our favorites this year includes Subaru showing what happens when you combine a bunch of rumors, a Corvette some may have already thought was a joke or Honda providing some in-car innovation circa the late 1980s. Honestly, we're still waiting for official confirmation from Mitsubishi that the recently introduced 2014 Mirage is an elaborate April Fools' joke using a failed design intended for the 1995 Geo Metro. We dug up as much "official" OEM foolishness we could find, as well as some of our other favorites, and posted them all below.
This Volvo truck is for the birds... literally
Fri, 16 Nov 2012If you were mentally scarred by the Alfred Hitchcock thriller The Birds, you may not want to watch this video. For everyone else, this is a rather perplexing event. It appears that thousands of pigeons are released from a Volvo truck at the command of a whistle. It looks visually stunning, but for what purpose? Well, we're not entirely sure, but it looks to be the simultaneous release at the start of a major pigeon race.
Now, we don't suspect that Volvo has eschewed its self-titled Volvo Ocean Race for a more avian-inspired competition. We're also not quite sure where this competition is being held, but it may be an annual event, as we also found a similar video with a different MAN rig on YouTube that was posted in 2011. but if you have even the slightest case of Ornithophobia, you best steer clear of this feathered mob. Otherwise, check out the video of this massive flock on the move in the video below. We've even thrown in a video of the gas station scene from Hitchcock's 1963 classic to get you in the mood.
