Immaculate, One Owner, California Volvo S70 With Window Sticker; Great Buy!!!! on 2040-cars
Long Beach, California, United States
Thanks for stopping by to take a closer look at this sterling Volvo S70 Four Door Sedan. I'm listing it for my friend and neighbor Greg who has treated it with the utmost care since he drove it new from the dealership 13 years ago. Metallic Nautical Blue Paint, an extra-cost color, still glistens and stands up to close inspection. No accidents, no rust, EVER! and not a '20-footer.' As result of his significant commute, Greg logged some 176 thousand - mostly freeway - miles. But because Greg was usually the only one in the smoke free car, the supple leather seats don't reflect its age. And if the mileage reading wasn't visible, the driver would think he was behind the wheel of a fairly new car. Even the Michelin tires have lots of wear remaining, and the care comes with its original window sticker showing the car's price of $31,575. I've been in and around cars as a hobby since I bought my first 1940 Chevrolet in 1952 and typically evaluate 'drivers' on a cost per mile basis. Considering you can buy this car for less than a lease vehicle's down payment, you can probably expect your next trouble-free 50,000 miles to cost about 5 cents a mile. Taking a look at other eBay offerings for similar Volvos will show good running ones approaching 250,000 miles. A new $35,000 car, for instance, will depreciate about $10,000 the first year. If you drive it 10,000 miles, cost is a dollar a mile. Makes 5 cents sound like a major transportation bargain. In addition to looking good, the car is currently registered and insured, has been regularly maintained by Signal Hill Foreign Auto Service (Signal Hill, CA) for the last three years and runs, shifts, rides and handles remarkably well, the latter assisted by its premium Michelin tires. Here's my overall assessment: For less than $3K, you get a very comfortable, safe, luxury-oriented vehicle that seats five with ease, is fuel efficient with its 5-speed adaptive transmission and presents extremely well. And there are three additional bonuses: a working electric sunroof to enjoy the evening air, a cold blowing air conditioning system for those hot days and cruise control for those long drives. So often I read eBay ads that say, "air condition blowing cool and was working, but 'just needs recharging'." What that typically means is that the compressor is shot and that a replacement will cost $1500 or more. Greg is offering this one with a low reserve (less than that lease car down payment). He's expecting the successful bidder to submit a $500 PayPal deposit within 48 hours of auction close and the remainder by cash or check, noting the car will be released when the check clears. If the buyer intends to ship the car, Greg will be happy to cooperate with the transportation company selected by the buyer. The car is located just east of Downtown Long Beach. This is a nice car and it's easy to get carried away describing it, so here's a caveat: To insure this car meets your expectations, personally inspect or have it inspected by a third party before you place a bid. Here's another: If you're new to eBay or outside the Continental US, contact me before bidding. Your questions and comments are encouraged and will be promply answered. After 13 years and 177K miles here are some additional things to consider about the car: 1)Two keys, no remote; 2) Gasoline access door closes but does not latch; 3) Radio on/off switch and gear-shift release sometimes require mild coaxing; 4) front passenger window works from pass side, but only goes up from driver's side; 5) left headlamp lens cracked years ago, but hasn't warranted replacing. Thanks for taking the time to read down this far. Rest assured we will appreciate your bids because this car is FOR SALE! |

Hyundai Sonata PHEV may be a game (and mind) changer
Wed, Jun 17 2015If you really, really want to consume volts instead of fuel on your way to work, school or shopping, you currently have just three options: pure EV, hydrogen fuel cell, or plug-in hybrid EV. Much as we love them, we all know the disadvantages of BEVs: high prices due to high battery cost (even though subsidized by their makers), limited range and long recharges. Yes, I know: six-figure (giant-battery) Teslas can deliver a couple hundred miles and Supercharge to ~80 percent in 10 minutes. But few of us can afford one of those, Tesla's high-voltage chargers are hardly as plentiful as gas stations, and even 10 minutes is a meaningful chunk out of a busy day. Also, good luck finding a Tesla dealership to fix whatever goes wrong (other than downloadable software updates) when it inevitably does. There still aren't any. Even more expensive, still rare as honest politicians, and much more challenging to refuel are FCEVs. You can lease one from Honda or Hyundai, and maybe soon Toyota, provided you live in Southern California and have ample disposable income. But you'd best limit your driving to within 100 miles or so of the small (but growing) number of hydrogen fueling stations in that state if you don't want to complete your trip on the back of a flatbed. That leaves PHEVs as the only reasonably affordable, practical choice. Yes, you can operate a conventional parallel hybrid in EV mode...for a mile or so at creep-along speeds. But if your mission is getting to work, school or the mall (and maybe back) most days without burning any fuel – while basking in the security of having a range-extender in reserve when you need it – your choices are extended-range EVs. That means the Chevrolet Volt, Cadillac ELR or a BMW i3 with the optional range-extender engine, and plug-in parallel hybrids. Regular readers know that, except for their high prices, I'm partial to EREVs. They are series hybrids whose small, fuel-efficient engines don't even start (except in certain rare, extreme conditions) until their batteries are spent. That means you can drive 30-40 (Volt, ELR) or 70-80 miles (i3) without consuming a drop of fuel. And until now, I've been fairly skeptical of plug-in versions of conventional parallel hybrids. Why?
Daimler and Volvo plan hydrogen fuel cell truck production in 2025
Thu, Apr 29 2021LONDON — Daimler's truck unit and Volvo said on Thursday they would start making hydrogen fuel cells in Europe in 2025 via a joint venture, and called for EU policies to help make the zero-emission technology commercially viable. The rival German and Swedish makers of large freight-hauling trucks formed their venture, Cellcentric, in March. They said they would provide more details on large-scale fuel production in 2022, but said Cellcentric was already scaling up prototype output. "Partnerships like Cellcentric are vital to our commitment to decarbonizing road transport," Volvo Chief Executive Martin Lundstedt said in a statement. Aside from the fuel-cell joint venture, the two companies remain competitors. Both hope to test fuel-cell trucks in about three years and start mass producing trucks in the second half of this decade. The European Union has been pushing tighter emission standards, fueling a boom in zero-emission electric cars. But batteries in electric vehicles are very heavy, and hydrogen fuel cells are seen as a potentially more viable zero-emission power systems for long-haul freight in the future. Fuel cells produce electricity from hydrogen, emitting only water. The two truck makers called for the construction of around 300 hydrogen refueling stations suitable for heavy-duty vehicles in Europe by 2025 and about 1,000 stations by 2030. During a video conference with the two firms, European Commissioner for Transport Adina Valean said the commission would this summer propose a revised alternative fuels directive. She said this "will include binding requirements for rolling out hydrogen fueling infrastructure ... and financial support will be available where needed." Automaker Stellantis said this year it would begin deliveries in Europe of its first medium-sized vans powered by hydrogen fuel cells by the end of 2021. Stellantis said at the time that Germany had 90 hydrogen stations and France had 25 — a tiny fraction of the thousands of petrol stations available for fossil-fuel vehicles today. As zero-emission trucks are significantly more expensive than fossil-fuel models, Daimler and Volvo said a "policy framework is needed to ensure demand and affordability." The two companies said policies should include subsidies for "CO2-neutral technologies and a taxation system based on carbon and energy content." Volvo unveils all-new user interface destined for next-gen XC90 [w/video]
Thu, 27 Feb 2014Take a close look at the cabin of the Volvo Concept Estate shown above. One of the big features on the fancy, brown shooting brake is an all-new user interface called, well, it doesn't really have a name, at least not one Volvo is revealing.
The refreshingly nameless system looks seriously impressive based on the short video that accompany's the system's press release. The jewel of the whole interface is a sizable touchscreen that manages most every in-car function save for a few vital functions like volume, hazard lights and other systems that still demand a more tactile interface.
"The basic idea is to organize controls and information in a perfectly intuitive and user- friendly way. Everything is exactly where you expect it to be, making the drive more enjoyable, efficient, and safe," Thomas Ingenlath, Volvo's Senior Vice President of Design, said in a statement.
