2008 Volvo C30, 80k Miles, 6 Speed, Well Optioned, Very Clean, All Records on 2040-cars
Kinsman, Ohio, United States
Up for auction is my completely stock Volvo C30 in Cosmic White/ Java. This is a terrific little car. I bought it last December from the second owner. I have all service records/ 2 keys/ all manuals and clear title in hand. It was sold new in North Carolina and then went to Cincinnati, Oh before coming up to Cleveland. I'm only selling it because I now need a bigger vehicle.
Mechanical: The car is in excellent mechanical condition. I have all of the service record from both previous owners. It has had regular oil changes done at the dealer all its life. Since I don't trust people to do my maintenance, I've done 2 Mobil 1 oil changes myself while owning it using Mann filters. About 2000 miles ago I also did brakes all the way around with Bosch pads and Meyle rear rotors. The front rotors were still good and true with no scoring. They were lightly touched up. While doing the brake work I also flushed the brake fluid and replaced it with ATE Type 200 fluid. I have not found any mechanical problems. It drives straight and smooth down the road with no service lights and the A/C is ice cold. It did 33mpg on the highway last month on a trip from Ohio to North Carolina. The Pirelli P-Zero Rosso tires have lots of tread left on them. Exterior Cosmetics: The Volvo is in excellent shape inside and out. Both previous owners, and myself, have cared for the car. There are no door dings that I have found and only a few very light dings in the roof and the hood. They are so small I can't even get a photo that shows them. There is one small mark on the lower part of the rear bumper and some chips in the front bumper. Nothing serious. I have genuine Volvo touch up paint and clear that is new in the package. I've polished and waxed it a couple times while I've owned it. The wheels all have a little cosmetic imperfections. There is the typical worming of the clear coat and a few chips and one mark that I put in when a brushed a curb. They still are very presentable. There is no rust on the car. Interior Cosmetics: The interior is clean and fresh smelling. NOTE: The satellite radio on the dash is on with clean-removing 2 way tape and is not included. The seats and carpets are clean. There is a very tiny wear spot on the drivers seat (shown in picture) about .25" long on the edge of the seat. For those who have not driven a Volvo before, these have to be the most comfortable highway cruiser seats of any car I have owned (and that's 14 cars in 6 yrs). All electronics work as they should. Options: This is a well optioned car. I looked for a long time to find one with all of the options this has.
Payment: Deposit of $200 via PayPal within 48 hours of end of auction. Full (cleared) payment is due before shipping. Cash or bank check for balance. It's not in my way, so the pick up date is not critical. Shipping: I would be happy to ship it at buyers expense after payment is clear. Also, I would be happy to pick up the buyer at the Cleveland Hopkins airport (CLE) and you can drive it home. Email me for more info/ pictures or to come take a look. It's also for sale local and I will cancel the auction if it sells locally. Thanks. |

Now at Costco: Bales of toilet paper and a Volvo or Pacifica to haul them
Tue, Aug 29 2017Costco, the beacon of bulk buying, where you can buy everything from gasoline to your own casket at deep discount, is offering some Costco-only incentives through its Auto Program in partnership with specific car brands: for now, Volvo and Chrysler, with other brands planned for later. First, Volvo: Now through Oct. 2, you can get both special incentives AND employee pricing (aka "A-Plan" pricing) AND whatever rebates and incentives Volvo might already have going on. The Costco incentives are: $3,000 on 2017 and 2018 S90 sedans. $750 on 2017 and 2018 S60 sedans. $750 on 2017 and 2018 V60 and V90 Cross Country wagons. $750 on 2017 and 2018 XC90 SUVs. $750 on the outgoing 2017 XC60 crossovers. Automaker incentives usually vary by region, but in the Detroit area, at least, Volvo currently has a $2,500 incentive on the 2018 XC90 and $3,500 on the 2017 model. Those end Aug. 31 but could be renewed in September, and others could be added then as well. Volvo is also offering special interest rates on financing some of the other models. And when all is said and done, if you fill out a Costco customer survey you'll get a $200 cash card. The Chrysler Pacifica deal, also through Oct. 2, is even simpler: Go to the Costco site, print out a certificate worth $1,000, and take it to a Chrysler dealership — any dealership, not just those that usually work with Costco, which is a first. The incentive covers both 2017 and 2018 models. And like the Volvo promotion, these Costco incentives can be combined with whatever Chrysler's doing — and it currently has a myriad of incentives on 2017 Pacificas, in various combinations that differ depending on whether you're leasing or buying. If you register at the Costco Auto Program website, you'll be put in touch with a dealer who can review the bottom line after all the discounts are factored in. Participating dealerships have offered special pricing to Costco members for years, up to the price automaker employees get. Costco's program doesn't typically work the way these Volvo and Chrysler programs do, though a similar joint promotion with Volvo back in 2013 sold 7,500 cars. If you haven't used the Costco Auto Program, but you don't like haggling at a dealership, you might give it a try. The beauty of it is that a dealer is obligated to offer you a set price and is also obligated to treat you by certain rules, such as not trying to upsell you. Last year, 490,000 vehicles were sold to Costco members through the program.
Hyundai Sonata PHEV may be a game (and mind) changer
Wed, Jun 17 2015If you really, really want to consume volts instead of fuel on your way to work, school or shopping, you currently have just three options: pure EV, hydrogen fuel cell, or plug-in hybrid EV. Much as we love them, we all know the disadvantages of BEVs: high prices due to high battery cost (even though subsidized by their makers), limited range and long recharges. Yes, I know: six-figure (giant-battery) Teslas can deliver a couple hundred miles and Supercharge to ~80 percent in 10 minutes. But few of us can afford one of those, Tesla's high-voltage chargers are hardly as plentiful as gas stations, and even 10 minutes is a meaningful chunk out of a busy day. Also, good luck finding a Tesla dealership to fix whatever goes wrong (other than downloadable software updates) when it inevitably does. There still aren't any. Even more expensive, still rare as honest politicians, and much more challenging to refuel are FCEVs. You can lease one from Honda or Hyundai, and maybe soon Toyota, provided you live in Southern California and have ample disposable income. But you'd best limit your driving to within 100 miles or so of the small (but growing) number of hydrogen fueling stations in that state if you don't want to complete your trip on the back of a flatbed. That leaves PHEVs as the only reasonably affordable, practical choice. Yes, you can operate a conventional parallel hybrid in EV mode...for a mile or so at creep-along speeds. But if your mission is getting to work, school or the mall (and maybe back) most days without burning any fuel – while basking in the security of having a range-extender in reserve when you need it – your choices are extended-range EVs. That means the Chevrolet Volt, Cadillac ELR or a BMW i3 with the optional range-extender engine, and plug-in parallel hybrids. Regular readers know that, except for their high prices, I'm partial to EREVs. They are series hybrids whose small, fuel-efficient engines don't even start (except in certain rare, extreme conditions) until their batteries are spent. That means you can drive 30-40 (Volt, ELR) or 70-80 miles (i3) without consuming a drop of fuel. And until now, I've been fairly skeptical of plug-in versions of conventional parallel hybrids. Why?
2024 Volvo C40 and XC40 Recharge First Drive Review: Back to the RWD future
Sat, May 6 2023The 2024 Volvo XC40 Recharge and C40 EVs will be available with rear-wheel drive, replacing the front-wheel-drive version that has been the fraternal pairing’s single-motor base model. This is obviously newsworthy — why else would I be writing about it? But does it actually mean anything? After driving both of these vehicles around the lakes, seaside, perfectly-maintained highways, and cobblestoned urban streets proximate to the brandÂ’s headquarters in Gothenburg, Sweden, I can say that the answer is, not really. But thatÂ’s not really VolvoÂ’s fault. The last time Volvo sold a rear-wheel-drive vehicle in the United States was 1998 when the cushy, brick-like 960 was retired (officially S90 and V90 in their final year). Everything thereafter was front-wheel drive or at least on a front-drive-based platform, in no small part due to the additional all-weather traction and stability afforded by the additional weight of an internal combustion engine and transaxle over the drive wheels. In short, it was safer, and even as Volvo moved away from decades of arcane, rectilinear design, safety remained its raison dÂ’etre.  That hasnÂ’t changed, but according to Volvo, EVs have fundamentally changed vehicle dynamics, centers of gravity, and weight distribution to refute the front-drive argument. A Volvo spokesperson told me that this new one-motor layout in the XC/C40, driving the rear wheels, with contemporary advanced driver assistance systems, is better in inclement weather than a gas-engine/FWD combo. That explains why the switch to a standard rear-drive layout doesnÂ’t run afoul of VolvoÂ’s established ethos, but why make the switch in the first place? Whether it was the plan all along, or just an advancement of next-generation technology to prolong and extend the relevance of these vehicles, is not something Volvo would comment on. In any event, many of the base EVs that are in or near the XC/C40Â’s competitive set — the VW ID.4, the Kia EV6, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 — feature rear-wheel drive in their single-motor setup. It is notable that all of those cars were developed from the ground up as EVs and could be optimized for the aforementioned dynamics. The XC40 and C40 were built on a platform capable of accommodating gas-only, plug-in hybrid and full-electric powertrains.
