Best Volvo Ever Made- "850",safe,reliable,good Looking..only Bad-car Never Dies! on 2040-cars
Charlottesville, Virginia, United States
just a great 1996 Volvo 850 for $1996 , amazingly smooth ride.. (this is a model/year that built Volvo brand as "safe, reliable, good looking" before Ford took it in year 2000-2005, http://autos.msn.com/research/vip/overview.aspx?year=1996&make=Volvo&model=850%20Wagon )
runs and drives great,AC ice cold, inspection done few months ago, clean title, looks very good for age and it is loaded with :leather, side curtain airbags all around, power everything, heated seats, volvo premium sound... it is a two owners car and I have service records from 1998 - present (dealer serviced most of the time) , not so perfect things: few battle scars on bumpers, driver's seat leather is cracked, oddometar is stuck for past year or two on 148K (this car was used twice a month for past 4-5years) and from time to time abs/traction light comes on but since car drives perfect it was never fixed (mechanic said that speed sensor might be a problem for oddometar and abs/track lights.. car is worth every penny that I am asking (I would not be affraid to go to Ca with it) but I will listen to offers .. my phone number is 434 229 1742, open to deliver for a small fee..

Volvo debuts new Drive-E four-cylinder engines
Fri, 16 Aug 2013
Volvo is introducing a new engine family based on its new Drive-E philosophy, which encompasses "all innovations made to reduce the impact on the environment," the automaker says. Less cylinders allows for less environmental impact, so the new engines are all four-pots. They also were designed to pair easily with Volvo's upcoming hybrid drive system, which "will reach power figures in the V8 territory" and play a "dominant part of the top end of [Volvo's] range," says Derek Crabb, Vice President Powertrain Engineering. Volvo also says we can expect "power curves that give exciting drivability compared with engines with more cylinders."
Volvo says some versions of the engine were designed targeting best-in-class fuel economy. There are both gasoline and diesel options, but the latter of which isn't scheduled for US consumption. Instead, the US will be offered two states of tune of the gasoline Drive-E engine for front-wheel-drive vehicles. Some of Volvo's current all-wheel-drive powertrains will remain available in the US until the company has transitioned solely to the new, fuel-efficient inline-fours.
Volvo to use Oz as test bed for more Polestar models?
Tue, 25 Jun 2013We've already told you about the slightly more awesome version of the Volvo S60 that our friends Down Under can now get their hands on. And according to Aussie site Drive.com.au, Volvo may look to the land of Oz for future testing of new, Polestar-tuned, high-performance models.
Volvo has reportedly confirmed that this S60 Polestar run will be an exercise in testing the acceptance of the Swedish tuner's presence as a proper competitor for things like BMW's M division or Mercedes-Benz's AMG. (A tall order, for sure.) "The world is watching this exercise with much interest," Volvo Cars Australia boss, Matt Braid, told Drive.com.au.
Hans Baath, Polestar Managing Director, reportedly hinted that the tuning house had already begun work on a hotter version of the V40 hatchback, but the project was scrapped in order to get the S60 program rolling. If there's success to be found here, this smaller hot hatch could be revisited, as well as a more powerful version of the XC60 crossover.
Volvo studying test of electric roads in Sweden
Tue, 27 May 2014Volvo already announced the results of a study of wireless charging using a stationary C30, and now it's embarking on a more ambitious study of wireless charging involving moving city buses. Next year, in conjunction with the Swedish Transport Association, Volvo will build a section of electric road up to 500 meters long that would use inductive charging to refill the batteries while the bus drives over it.
Right now, the company's Hyper Bus diesel hybrid has to stop to plug in and charge at the end of its route. The company is looking for a way to keep buses in service while being able to run on electric power for greater lengths of time. The new line used for the study will be called ElectriCity, and will come online in central Gothenburg sometime in 2015. There's a press release below with more information.
