Up for sale is RARE 1996 Volvo 850 R

When this vehicle was new, it was the fastest production car with an automatic transmission that you could buy. It was also one of the safest vehicles you could own. These vehicles are known to last a very long time and are capable of running for well over 300,000 miles.

Over the last few years I have invested a lot of money into this car. The top half of the motor was rebuilt. The cylinder head has been machined and new valves were installed just last year (only about 5,000 miles ago). While doing that, I also replaced the water pump, all the timing components, timing belt, all the coolant hoses, vacuum lines, cap and rotor and plugs. Most of these were replaced with OEM Volvo parts.

Also, I did some nice upgrades to the car. I replaced the upper engine mount with IPD polyurethane bushings (these don't wear out and break like the factory ones), IPD 8mm wires, and a 2006 V70R exhaust manifold (factory ones crack and the newer style manifold flows much better). I'm sure there are other things I am forgetting about. I have put over $3,000 in the car and have receipts to go with it. This car runs and drives great. Volvo recommits to Sweden with development of next-gen platform and engines

Taking into account the facts that Volvo is now owned by China's Geely and how poorly the European automotive market has been recently, we would have definitely understood if Volvo moved production of its products out of its home market. And yet, the automaker has confirmed that it will be investing billions of dollars into new platforms and engines that will be made in Sweden. On a global scale, Volvo is making roughly $11 billion of investments, and close to half of that is being earmarked for Sweden for plant expansion and upgrades.
The new Scalable Product Architecture (SPA) platform will be the used as the basis for most future Volvo products starting with the next-generation XC90 that will be debuting at the end of 2014. SPA will be used to make up two-thirds of Volvo's sales, and gives Volvo a quicker and easier break from Ford-derived platforms. As for the Volvo Engine Architecture (VEA) family of engines, there are really no details about this mill except that it will be a four-cylinder that is more fuel efficient than current engines.

Volvo Polestar celebrates STCC title with Black R edition S60, V60 and XC60

The relationship between Volvo and Polestar was forged - and forges deeper still - on the racetrack, where the latter fields the former's tin-top entries in the STCC, WTCC and V8 Supercars. And based on their success together in touring-car racing, Volvo has had Polestar amp up a number of its production road cars. What we have here is the latest.
This year Volvo and Polestar dominated the Scandinavian Touring Car Championship, taking both the drivers' and manufacturers' titles. So to celebrate, Polestar has rolled out a new Black R package for the S60 sedan, V60 wagon and XC60 crossover.
The package includes an upgrade to 329 horsepower for the T6 engine and to 230 hp for the D5, and further enhances with special wheels, a dropped suspension, special sport seats and more. Unfortunately the package is only being offered in Sweden, but you can scope out the details in the press release below and the photos in the gallery above.
