1996 Volvo 850 R Wagon 4-door 2.3l on 2040-cars
Chagrin Falls, Ohio, United States
The Volvo 850R Station Wagon, a high performance model, developed in part with Porsche, was released and the rest is history. Anyone that knows their Volvo's an tell you that the limited production 850R is a rare machine. In 5-door form, the turbocharged station wagon can accelerate from 0-62 mph in 7.4 seconds and reach up to 158 mph (254 km/h). Various Volvo sources estimate between 5000-7000 of all 850 R variants were produced and sold worldwide. The Volvo 850R wagon features the 2.3 liter, 5-cylinder, turbocharged engine. The turbo in the R model boasts an incredible 11 pounds of boost, compared to the 850 turbo wagon which produces only 5-6 pounds of boost. If you don't know the reputation of these cars, please follow the links posted below. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0ReaHyJ0m9E https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kZ3mD62ZuAU This particular example of the 850R wagon is a true specimen of a great history of proper maintenance. The previous owner of this car was a high-end Volvo and Saab repair shop out here east of Cleveland, Ohio. This car used to be the courtesy car for Swedish Solutions, a shop with a storied reputation for only the best in Volvo repairs and maintenance. You can be assured that the history of the car is a great one. This car always had proper and regular maintenance. It's had oil changes every 3,000 miles, and all scheduled timing belt replacements have been done. Needless to say, this car has a meticulous maintenance history. The car is the 5-cylinder, 2.3 liter turbo with an automatic transmission. It runs and drives flawlessly. The engine pulls strong, the turbo is perfect, and the transmission is flawless. The suspension on the car is still very tight and strong. Everything on the car works perfect. This includes all of the windows, locks, 8-way power front seats, power mirrors, power sunroof, stereo, cruise control, etc. The stereo is a newer Alpine headset with bluetooth and usb inputs. It also still retains the factory warrantee. The interior is in great shape, with no tears in the leather and no cracks on the dash. This particular model features the raphine grey leather with dark alcantara seat and door inserts, burled black walnut wood trim on instrument panel and floor console with Graphite carpeting/interior trim, light Grey coloured; leather gear knob, parking brake handle, seat piping and steering wheel insert. The factory floor mats are included. The rear storage area has a cargo mat. The factory pet fence for the rear seat is included (see pic). One of the front wheels was damaged and replaced by a new wheel and tire. I do not have the damaged wheel. The A/C will need to be recharged. The clear coat on the roof has begun to peeal (see pic) and there is a small spot of clear coat fade on the front hood. The car will consume 1/2 to 3/4 of a quart of oil between oil changes. I did notice a puff of smoke from the exhaust when you hit the gas had after the engine's been warmed up and allowed to stand at idle for at least a few minutes. This is my 4th 5-cylinder Volvo wagon, and 3 of the 4 had the same oil issue. It's nothing that will effect the drivability of the car, but I want to make everyone aware of any and all issues that I know about. Bottom line, this is an awesome, rare, and fun car that is ready to drive for a long time. I wish I could keep it, but I just found an early air-cooled VW that I really want, and my wife said I can't keep both. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thanks, and good luck! Car sold as-is, where is, with no warrantee expressed or implied. It is the sole responsibility of the bidder to inspect the car prior to purchase.

Big rig gets blown over on Wyoming freeway, flattens police cruiser
Sun, Feb 12 2017A big rig navigating a stretch of windy Wyoming highway last week was blown over by high winds and landed on a Wyoming Highway Patrol cruiser. According to CBS News, three Wyoming Highway Patrol troopers responded to an accident along Interstate 80 near Elk Mountain on February 7. While the troopers were out of their cars assisting the crash victims, a white Volvo semi-truck lumbered up I-80 toward them. Wind gusts in that part of Wyoming were clocked in at up to 90 miles per hour on Tuesday, and one of them caught the semi as it neared the parked cruisers. Video from one of the cruiser's onboard cameras showed the big rig drift to the right as a big gust hit the trailer. Slowly, the whole rig tipped over and flattened one of the parked cruisers. The truck then slid a few feet on its side and came to a stop just aft of the cruiser. None of the troopers were injured in the incident, and two people in the truck came out of it unhurt as well. Patrol Lieutenant David Wagener told KGWN that that stretch of I-80 was closed on Tuesday to lightweight, high-profile vehicles. The truck driver was cited for the incident. High winds are no joke, and vehicles getting blown around or even clean off the road is a pretty common phenomenon. Way back in 2011, a truck got blown over in Utah. Then there was a train that got blown off a bridge in Louisiana in 2015. Here's today's round of auto plant closures in response to coronavirus
Fri, Mar 20 2020More automakers have shuttered factories, as businesses everywhere work to slow the spread of the Covid-19 coronavirus — and as the pandemic slows sales and disrupts parts supply chains. On Friday, the following closures were announced: • Volvo will close its factories in Sweden and the United States from March 26 to April 14. Volvo's U.S. facility, in Charleston, South Carolina, makes the S60 sedan. Its assembly plant in Torslanda, Sweden, turns out the XC90, SC60, and V90. Other Swedish facilities make engines and component parts. A Volvo factory in Ghent, Belgium, that builds the XC40 and V60 closed earlier this week and is expected to remain offline until April 6. Volvo's four factories in China have been reopened after a shutdown earlier this year. • Jaguar Land Rover announced that it will suspend production at its assembly plants in the UK over the coming week. The shutdown is expected to last until April 20. Elsewhere, production continues at the company's factories in India and Brazil, and JLR's joint-venture plant in China reopened at the end of February. • Bentley is closing its factory in Crewe, England, for four weeks, effective today. • Bugatti has put its atelier in Molsheim, France, on hiatus. No date was given for when assembly of its supercars might resume. • Mercedes-Benz on Monday will shut down its SUV factory in Alabama and its van assembly plant in South Carolina. Both will remain closed for a minimum of two weeks. Tesla yesterday revealed that it will suspend operations at its Fremont, California, vehicle assembly plant next week, on order from local officials there. Yesterday's factory closure announcements also included the U.S. assembly plants for Toyota (until April 6), Volkswagen (through March 29), Subaru (through March 29), and Hyundai (no time period specified). They join GM, Ford, Chrysler, Honda, Nissan, and Harley-Davidson, which earlier this week announced the suspension of production at their facilities. Volvo Trucks makes some pretty strong brakes
Mon, 05 May 2014Often dashcam footage from Russia shows some of the worst driving imaginable, but this is an exception. The Volvo truck driver in this video definitely earned himself a drink or two at the end of the day after making it through this potentially horrific crash. As do the folks at Volvo that engineered those brakes.
The truck driver shows some fantastic reaction time as the silver hatchback suddenly pulls out of an intersection. It looks like he only has a few yards to bring the behemoth to a stop before demolishing the little car. While it's an impressive feat, the best part of the video has to be the driver's bow when he gets out of the truck. He looks like a maestro who just finished conducting a symphony asking for a round of applause.
Scroll down to check out this truck driver's skills and see if he earns his bow afterward.
