Greetings everyone:)

IN AN ATTEMPT TO SAVE EVERYONE TIME I HAVE DESCRIBED THIS VEHICLE IN EVERY LITTLE DETAIL I COULD THINK OF. SO PLEASE TAKE THE TIME TO READ THE ENTIRE DESCRIPTION BEFORE ASKING QUESTIONS. I WOULD GREATLY APPRECIATE IT!

1996 Volvo 850R wagon up for sale with currently 146xxx miles. If you're a car enthusiast, you already know how RARE this particular model is. Especially in this kind of condition. I have taken it on a few local Volvo club ride alongs and received quite a few compliments. As you can see, this Volvo has been very well taken care of. Spending a majority of her life behind closed doors. The original paint is still in stunning condition. The color is "Flame Red", and was limited in production.

The interior is pretty much just as impressive and shows very few if any flaws. It is all tear free and still provides very comfortable support. The rear seats have barely been used. All of the wood grain trim is still crack free. The sunroof opens and closes with ease and does not leak. This wagon is very spacious and can easily fit two people to "camp out" in the back with the seats folded down which just takes seconds. The window tint gives you full privacy. It also has two separate rear cargo covers that easily pull out and retract, as well as a Weather Tech waterproof cargo liner.

This Volvo has never been smoked in, and is free of any accidents or "fender benders". Speaking of safety. This model has a front and side airbag system, along with front and rear anti-roll bars. Both the front and rear suspension are still very solid and I have also had a Torsion Bar installed which is a $185.00 upgrade. This car handles and performs like a dream! While the original paint is near perfect, there are only a few spots with minor surface scratches. The front bumper has very low clearance so this is very difficult to avoid ( see pics ). It would be considered "particular" of me to even mention it.

This Volvo has ZERO RUST! All four tires have about 80% of their tread left including the full size and matching spare. The front and rear brakes are also near new. The timing belt also only has about 15K miles on it. The rear main seal was replaced and updated less than 3K miles ago, which is a well known failure on these models. All of the fluids are clean and filled to their proper levels. This car has absolutely no leaks. Oil changes have been completed every 3K miles.

It has an automatic transmission, which shifts very smoothly and on time. The 5 cylinder 2.3 liter engine produces an incredible 250 horsepower (179 kW) @ 5600 rpm and 221 lb·ft (300 N·m) @ 2100 rpm. Not that I am encouraging anyone to be a speed demon, these facts are good to know:) It has a rating of 0-60mph in 5.8 seconds and with a top speed of 158 mph. I suspect that the previous owner has "upgraded" the Turbo system as this 850R provides seat pinning power compared to other ones I have driven. You will be amazed on how gas friendly this car is! There is a significant difference when using the Economy or Sport mode which is as easy as pushing a button. There is also a Winter mode, and traction control system.  All of the electronics work great!

Other options include:
Power Windows
Power locks
Factory alarm system
Locking glove box
Locking storage compartment
Power sunroof
Dual Power heated seats
On board computer ( measures fuel economy etc )
Power mirrors
Cruise control
Ice Cold air conditioning
Privacy glass
Original Volvo radio with tape cassette and cd player & premium sound

The only reason I am selling is the need to down size my garage candy. Otherwise this Volvo would stay in the family for life.

This Volvo comes with a Clean California Title, Current Ca registration until July 2013, Owners manual and service records, clean Carfax Report, original 850R floor mats, full size and matching spare tire and wheel and two sets of original Volvo keys. If you are a California buyer I will provide a new smog certificate with purchase. I am happy to assist with shipping and or airport pickup from the San Diego airport ( SAN ). Feel free to email me with any questions or concerns, or to schedule a test drive..Please note that I may end this auction at anytime. Good luck and happy bidding!

Everybody's doing flying cars, so why aren't we soaring over traffic already?

Mon, Oct 1 2018

"Where's my flying car?" has been the meme for impending technology that never materializes since before there were memes. And the trough of disillusionment for vehicles that can take to sky continues to nosedive, despite a nonstop fascination with flying cars and a recent rash of announcements about the technology, particularly from traditional automakers. Earlier this month, Toyota applied for an eye-popping patent for a flying car that has wheels with spring-loaded pop-out helicopter rotors. The patent filing says the wheels/rotors would be electrically powered, while in on-land mode the vehicle would have differential steering like tracked vehicles such as tanks and bulldozers. At an airshow in July, Aston Martin unveiled its Volante Vision Concept, an autonomous hybrid-electric vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) vehicle it developed with Rolls-Royce. Aston says the Volante can fly at top speeds of around 200 mph and bills it as a luxury car for the skies. Audi used the Geneva Motor Show in March to unveil a flying car concept called the Pop.Up Next it developed with Airbus and Italdesign. If the Pop.Up Next, an electric and autonomous quadcopter/city car combo, gets stuck in traffic, an app can be used to summon an Airbus-developed drone to pick up the passenger compartment pod, leaving the chassis behind. Audi said that the Pop.Up Next is a "flexible on-demand concept that could open up mobility in the third dimension to people in cities." But Audi also acknowledged that at this point it has no plans to develop it. The cash-stoked, skies-the-limit Silicon Valley tech crowd is also bullish on flying cars. The startup Kitty Hawk that's backed by Google co-founder Larry Page announced in June that it's taking pre-orders for its single-seat electric Flyer that's powered by 10 propellers and is capable of vertical takeoffs and landings. The current version can only fly up to 20 mph and 10 feet in the air and has a flight time of just 12 to 20 minutes on a full charge. The Flyer is considered a recreational vehicle, so doesn't require a pilot's license. Uber says it plans to launch its more ambitious Elevate program and UberAIR service in 2023. "Uber customers will be able to push a button and get a flight on-demand with uberAIR in Dallas, Los Angeles and a third international market," Uber Elevate promises on its website.

Current-generation Volvo XC90 will be sold alongside its successor

Wed, Feb 16 2022

Volvo's next-generation XC90 sounds like it will be more of a revolution than a simple evolution — even the name will change. The firm doesn't want to alienate buyers, so it will sell the current-generation model alongside its replacement for at least a couple of years. Allegedly called Embla, the XC90's successor will inaugurate an evolution of the existing SPA2 platform and a number of driver-assistance features. Some rumors claim that it will be offered exclusively with an electric powertrain. Keeping the second-generation model around is a way for Volvo to prevent buyers who don't want an electric car and who don't need the latest and greatest tech features from going to the competition. Making the two people-movers in separate factories will ensure that both can be built without creating logistical issues. "That is an advantage of building the new one in Charleston, South Carolina. Why should we close down the old one in Torslanda when you still have a market for hybrids, especially in America and in China?," said outgoing company boss Hakan Samuelsson in an interview with Automotive News Europe. He stopped short of saying precisely how long the current-generation XC90 will remain in production for, however. Far from worrying about internal competition, Volvo plans to give the XC90 at least one more update in order to help it fend off a growing list of rivals, especially in key markets like the United States. "We will even look into upgrading it so it looks a bit better," he told the publication. As of writing, it's the oldest member of the Volvo range: it spearheaded the brand's revival when it made its debut for the 2016 model year. More information about the XC90's replacement will emerge in the coming months, and we expect to see the model in late 2022. When it lands, it will be clearly positioned as Volvo's flagship, a spot that the XC90 has occupied since the first-generation model arrived in 2002. As new cars become more advanced and correspondingly more expensive, keeping an older model around as a budget-oriented option is a strategy that's slowly gaining ground. Porsche confirmed that the current- and next-generation versions of the Macan will coexist for a few years for reasons not unlike Volvo's. Ram keeps the last-generation 1500 in its range and charges $6,385 less for it than for the new model. Related video: This content is hosted by a third party. Ford, Volvo, Google, Uber and Lyft form self-driving alliance

Tue, Apr 26 2016

Five companies arguably leading the worldwide effort to develop autonomous cars said Tuesday they're forming an organization to lobby the federal government to better prepare America's roads for self-driving technology. The founding members include some of the biggest companies in the automotive, autonomous, and ride-sharing realms – Ford, Google, Lyft, Uber and Volvo. Operating as the "Self-Driving Coalition for Safer Streets," they aim to work with lawmakers and regulators to clarify a disparate set of rules and regulations at both the state and federal levels that could hinder the deployment of autonomous cars. "The U.S. risks losing its leading position due to the lack of federal guidelines for the testing and certification of autonomous vehicles." – Hakan Samuelsson David Strickland, a former administrator of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration who issued the first set of autonomous-related policies in that role (pictured below), will serve as the group's counsel and spokesperson. "The best path for this innovation is to have one clear set of federal standards, and the Coalition will work with policymakers to find the right solutions that will facilitate the deployment of self-driving vehicles," he said in a written statement. In January, Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx said his department would accelerate efforts to craft such federal standards. Those efforts include holding two public hearings on standards, the second of which is scheduled to be held Wednesday in Palo Alto, California. Foxx signaled the intent to deliver them by June. Google has been leading the efforts to ensure such standards are national in scope, warning their cars could run afoul of state-specific laws should they cross state borders or if standards varies between the federal efforts and regional ones. The complexity of such efforts was underscored recently, when NHTSA agreed that Google's software could be considered the driver of a vehicle for the purpose of meeting federal motor vehicle standards, an interpretation that would conflict with preliminary California rules that mandate a licensed driver operate a self-driving car that comes equipped with human controls like a steering wheel and brakes. At South By Southwest last month, Jennifer Haroon, Google's self-driving car business leader, said the company couldn't accomplish its goals under those regulations.
