Up for sale is a very rare 5 speed manual transmission 1996 Volvo 850R. This has been my sisters car for the last four years and she loved it but her family is expanding and she needs a wagon to fit everything. She bought the car with 230K and at that time it had a leaking rear main seal. Since the transmission had to come out my sister said she wanted to put a manual transmission in the car. Since i have done 6 manual transmission swaps them before this one it was a quick and easy conversion. I used a good transmission and all the necessary parts from a donor non turbo 1996 850 that had 140K. I put in a brand new OEM Volvo 850R clutch and bearing. I also replaced the axle seals rear main seal and anything else that need replacing. The ECU is from a 1998 T-5 S70. The check engine light is on for the air pump and barometric pressure sensor. I know someone who passed the emissions test for my sister so i never needed to get it flashed out. These codes can be tuned out by sending the ecu out to ARD tuning. Eight months ago the car lost compression on cylinder 2 which was a burnt valve. I took the head off replaced the bad valve replaced all the valve seals and reseated all the valves so this wouldn't happen to any other valves. I also replaced all the upper engine seals and all the gaskets. I also cleaned and replaced the breather system. I also installed new spark plugs wires cap and rotor. The timing belt was also replaced at this time. All the parts used were brand new OEM Volvo parts. The engine runs great doesn't burn any oil or coolant. The transmission shifts smoothly and the clutch engages properly. There is a small oil leak from the cooler lines or the breather box. I didnt look into it because she is selling the car. The suspension and steering is in great shape and doesn't have any play or clunks. I have replaced quite a few things in the front suspension over the years. wheel bearings control arms tie rods spring seats ect... The interior is in good shape not everything works as it should. the headliner is saving because someone before me drilled a hole in the roof to put an aftermarket antenna in the car and it wasn't properly sealed. it has been resealed but the headliner was not fixed. The body has its fair share of dings and scrapes but it has never been in an accident or had any paint work. I do not have the original rims they have been sold because my sister was tired of replacing blown out tires. Please email me with any questions or if you want to come see or test drive the car.

Volvo Cars, Northvolt to build battery plant with 3,000 jobs
Fri, Feb 4 2022Northvolt's new facility in Skelleftea, Sweden. Â STOCKHOLM — Automaker Volvo Cars and battery manufacturer Northvolt will build their joint battery plant in Gothenburg, western Sweden, the two companies said on Friday. The new 50-gigawatt-hour (GWh) plant will create up to 3,000 jobs and make battery cells specifically developed for use in pure electric Volvo and Polestar cars, the Sweden-based companies said. Operations will begin in 2025. The two companies said last year they would form a joint venture to develop batteries, including setting up a gigafactory for production and a research and development centre, a total investment of about 30 billion crowns ($3.3 billion). Northvolt and Volvo said former Tesla executive Adrian Clarke had been appointed to lead the production company. "He comes with a long experience from Tesla as well as around how to build these type of factories," Northvolt CEO Peter Carlsson, who also previously worked for Tesla, told Reuters. Volvo Cars head of engineering and operations, Javier Varela, said access to fossil-free energy, skills and infrastructure had been factors for choosing Gothenburg, Volvo's hometown. Competition for talent is fierce, with most battery engineers based in Asia. Tesla and Asian companies such as LG and Samsung SDI are also setting up factories in Europe. Northvolt's gigafactory in the Swedish town of Skelleftea assembled its first battery cell at the end of December, making it the first European company to design and manufacture a battery in Europe. Carlsson said it was running as planned, although he said global supply-chain problems, semiconductor shortages and the COVID-19 had made it more of a challenge. "It has not been the easiest of times," he said. Volvo Cars, majority owned by China's Geely Holding, aims to sell 50% pure electric cars by the middle of this decade and fully electric cars only by 2030. Northvolt, whose biggest shareholder is Volkswagen, has so far receive more than $30 billion worth of contracts from customers such as BMW, Fluence, Scania, Volkswagen, Volvo Cars and Polestar. Â

Why this could be the perfect time for Apple to make a car play
Fri, Aug 31 2018While the automotive and technology worlds have been pouring billions into autonomous vehicles (AVs) and preparing to bring them to market soon as shared robo-taxis, Apple has mostly sat on the sidelines. Of course, Apple is the last company to ever make its intentions known, and the super-secret tech cult giant hasn't been totally out of the AV game based on the clues that have slipped out of its Cupertino, Calif., citadel over the past few years. Related: Apple self-driving cars are real — one was just in an accident News first broke in 2015 that it had assembled an automotive development team, in part by poaching high-profile talent from car companies, to work on a top-secret self-driving vehicle project code-named Titan. (Thank you very much, Nissan.) Apple also subsequently broke cover by making inquiries into using a Northern California AV testing facility and receiving a permit to test AVs on public roads in California. But then as the AV race started to heat up in the last few years, Apple reportedly began scaling back its car activities by downsizing team Titan. More recently, Apple's car project has shown signs of life with the hiring a high-level engineer away from Waymo and luring one Tesla's top engineers and a former employee back to Apple. It also inked a deal with Volkswagen to provide a technology platform and software to convert the automaker's new T6 Transporter vans into autonomous shuttles for employees at tech company's new campus. That is a far cry from giving rides to Wal-Mart shoppers, like Waymo is doing as part of its AV testing in Phoenix. But this could be the perfect time for Apple to enter the AV market now that ride-sharing is reaching critical mass and automakers and others are planning to deploy fleets of robo-taxis. Apple could easily establish a niche as a high-end ride-sharing service – and charge a premium – given its cult-like brand loyalty and design savvy. The growth of car subscription models could also play in Apple's favor since is already has many people hooked on paying for phones in monthly installments – and eager to upgrade when a new and better model becomes available. To achieve this, some believe Apple will fulfill co-founder and CEO Steve Job's dream of building a car. And as the world's first and only $1 trillion company it's sitting on a mountain of cash that certainly gives it the means. But other tech darlings like Tesla and Google have discovered how difficult it can be to build cars at scale.
