1996 Volvo 850 Base Sedan 4-door 2.4l on 2040-cars
Simpsonville, South Carolina, United States
Hey All,
I'm moving cross-country so i'm selling my Volvo 850. It runs great, but its got some typical volvo problems, both cosmetic and a few other things that should be addressed. The car should be serviced, though If you are a mechanic or have a friend that is one, fixing this stuff won't cost you too much, and you will have a car with an excellent engine (Which is really the most important part of any car). I've owned her for almost 4 years and have never been in any accident. Its a very safe car, and a good teen "first". The Good: Its got new spark plugs, both trans-axles have been replaced (bout a year and a half ago), and the alternator has been rebuilt. Tires were replaced about a year ago. The engine is in excellent condition with no oil leaks, and the transmission is in excellent shape. The heater works like an afterburner (It gets extremely hot after about 10 seconds of driving) and the air condition works great. Has a few tiny dints here and there, but no dents. The car inside is clean, spacious and very dry. (Aside from a small drivers side seat rip the inside is immaculate. Good speakers. The Bad: Cosmetic: The inside roof is droopy (typical of most older cars). There is a section of molding that is broken on the passenger right front next to the wheel. Its also missing the wheel well mud protector on that side. Glove compartment box is stuck (typical of 850 Volvos) and the center box jams sometimes as well. Their is a spot on the undercarriage that needs a weld, i think its apart of the rear suspension, but it jiggles when the car drives. Never had a problem from this aside from the noise. Mechanically: Battery needs replacement and the battery cables should be replaced as well, they are original and beat up (These cables have lead to shortened battery life). Could probably use a coolant flush, its been a while since i've had that done and the car would probably appreciate it (The coolant light is on, but never had a problem with temp or over heating ever, probably needs a code reset). ABS light is on, though its been on for 2 years since i had the breaks replaced (Disks and pads, and again probably needs a code reset). Brakes should be ok, but might need to be looked at. Horn is broken (I took out the fuse for this, since if its in, you will continuously have the horn on) and the contacts in the steering wheel should be replaced. The spare tire is shredded and needs to be replaced. Their is a slight grounded wire in the car somewhere. With a new battery it doesn't matter too much, but after a year and half or two, it could be a problem. Kelly Blue book value- (Good Condition)- $2014 (Fair Condition) - $1614 Thanks, and hoping to give her a good home! |

Geely plans to launch hundreds of satellites to guide autonomous cars
Wed, Mar 4 2020BEIJING — China's Zhejiang Geely Holding Group said on Tuesday it was investing 2.27 billion yuan ($326 million) in a new satellite manufacturing plant, where it plans to build low-orbit satellites to provide more accurate data for self-driving cars. Geely, one of China's most internationally-known companies due to its investments in Daimler, Volvo and Proton, is building the facilities in Taizhou, where it has car plants. It aims to produce 500 satellites a year by around 2025, with around 300 highly-skilled staff, it said in a statement. Geely's technology development arm, Geely Technology Group, launched Geespace to research, launch, and operate low-orbit satellites in 2018. Geespace will begin the launch of its commercial low-orbit satellite network by the end of this year, Geely said. Geely said low-orbit satellites would offer high speed internet connectivity, precise navigation, and cloud computing capabilities to cars with autonomous driving technology. Geely, which sold 2.18 million cars last year, is among global automakers from Tesla to Toyota to pursue autonomous driving technologies. It is building low-orbit satellites to meet demand for high-speed connectivity capabilities that can deliver fast software updates. From around 2025, Geely's cars will have more functions to connect to the satellites. Related Video: This content is hosted by a third party. To view it, please update your privacy preferences. Volvo P1800-based gasser is UK's entry in the Hot Wheels Legends Tour
Fri, Oct 15 2021Hot Wheels has spent the past few months touring the United States in search of the next custom car it will add to its catalog of 1/64-scale diecast models. It's not stopping there: It also headed to the United Kingdom to add a bit of international flair to the competition, and it selected a Volvo P1800 that has been heavily modified into a gasser as the winner that will move on to the semifinal round. Owner Lee Johnstone explained he built his P1800 — which he nicknamed "Ain't no Saint" — starting with a bare shell that had been stripped and that was too far gone to properly restore. Volvo's 1960s four-cylinder engines are famously tunable, but Johnstone looked across the pond for an engine suitable to make his dream car a reality. He chose a 454-cubic-inch V8 sourced from the Chevrolet parts bin and supercharged to develop about 600 horsepower. Ain't no Saint reportedly runs a 10.01-second quarter mile at 133 mph. Johnstone regularly races the P1800 with his three daughters. He consequently named his team Johnstone & Daughters (JD) Racing. "This is a beautiful example of a gasser — a drag racer with street car form. Often with dragsters, the chassis is so important that the body gets overlooked, but this example is fabulous with great attention to detail," explained former Jaguar design director Ian Callum, who was one of the judges that selected the P1800 as the United Kingdom's finalist. "It completely hits the Hot Wheels brief." Hot Wheels has already released several gassers, including one based on a 1955 Chevrolet Bel Air. Time will tell if Johnstone's P1800 will become the next addition to the series. Its next stop is the global semifinal round scheduled for November 4, 2021, where it will compete against some of the previous winners. There are two semifinal rounds taking place before the grand finale planned for November 13.
Hot rod tractor stars in Swedish version of Farmkhana
Mon, 08 Sep 2014The Nordic countries are known for their beautiful fjords, blonde-haired populace and bitter cold for a good portion of the year. The hours spent indoors during the dark, cold season apparently gives a lot of time for some crazy brainstorming. Tire store chain Vianor is highlighting the Traktor Terror in a new video. If Ken Block is the master of Gymkhana, then these guys know all about Farmkhana in their custom, turbocharged tractor.
According to the YouTube description from Vianor, the tractor is a 1956 Volvo BM Terrier with an added roll cage, adjustable front suspension and extended frame. The engine is thoroughly Swedish, and it's based on a Volvo 940 Turbo with a Volvo 240 head and Volvo 740 intercooler. However, it uses a Saab turbo Prospark ignition and fuel system. All told, the setup is claimed to make 225 horsepower and is capable of a top speed of 60 miles per hour.
That's not crazy power, but this tractor can certainly put it down. The farm machine has no problem smoking those big rear wheels and drifts easily.... although, it may be a tiny little bit unstable (hence the roll cage). If nothing else, this looks like the world's most fun way to be a farmer, that's for sure.
