For auction is our family Volvo. It has been nothing but a reliable and safe daily driver for my wife. She has driven the car for a year and a half now while I keep up with the oil changes and gas fill up. When we purchased the car from a friend we did the following maintenance to get the car in what I could justify as road worthy shape;

New tires all around

New brake pads all around

New rotors all the way around

New rear brake calipers

New A/C condensing coil

Timing belt service (includes new water pump and all new front main seals)

After driving for a year we did the following maintenance;

New front struts

New oil breather box (all 850 volvo's leak oil from this if it is not replaced)

Fan blower motor for A/C and Heat

The car does not leak. The sunroof opens and closes and tilts and does not leak. All windows work properly as well as all other electronics except the following; heated seats, fuel gauge and engine temperature only work when vehicle is motion (if you come to a complete stop they go to the left, when you resume moving they read accurately every time. The service light comes on when you start the car, and then goes off after 45 seconds. This is not the check engine light but a service light to remind of oil changes but the computers in early Volvos did not have a plug in port for my mechanic to reset so it is a friendly reminder it still works.

Volvo Trucks makes some pretty strong brakes

Often dashcam footage from Russia shows some of the worst driving imaginable, but this is an exception. The Volvo truck driver in this video definitely earned himself a drink or two at the end of the day after making it through this potentially horrific crash. As do the folks at Volvo that engineered those brakes.
The truck driver shows some fantastic reaction time as the silver hatchback suddenly pulls out of an intersection. It looks like he only has a few yards to bring the behemoth to a stop before demolishing the little car. While it's an impressive feat, the best part of the video has to be the driver's bow when he gets out of the truck. He looks like a maestro who just finished conducting a symphony asking for a round of applause.
