1987 Volvo 240 DL with approximately 125K miles. Owned car for 8 years and no longer drive it. Body, motor, tranny in very good shape. Fuel Gauge, Odometer, Clock and A/C not working. Brand New Battery. Michelin Tires Nearly New. Car Drives Great. Clean Title.  Includes Roof Rack.

On Oct-15-13 at 08:30:28 PDT, seller added the following information:

Thanks for all the questions about the Volvo.  Here is additional information:

NC Inspection Valid Through July, 2014.  Actual mileage is under 122K.

Yes, the body is perfect except for two barely perceptible door dings on the driver's side.  The car has always been in a garage or driveway - the yellow paint is faded but good and will shine after a compounding.  There is a rust spot on the passenger door rocker panel from a water leak - see pic.

The car comes with the Thule Roof Crossbars & Mounts

The 4 Michelin Tires have less than 5000 miles and are in excellent condition

The interior is very good with a couple of minor blemishes and no odors.  The radio works fine other than static when changing the volume.  The dash pad is cracked from the sun.

All trim, bumper guards and emblems are in excellent original condition.

All glass is in excellent condition.

Rear defroster works but heated seats do not.  The power locks don't not work, but all doors lock.

The brakes, exhaust, suspension, steering, engine, transmission, electrical system, relays, etc., all work well.  The car drives wonderfully.  It is 26 years old but is rarely driven any longer and that is why I am selling it.  You can drive it without spending a dime or you can spend a few hundred to get everything (Fuel Gauge, A/C, etc.) working.  This is a great car for 240 lovers looking to help a good 240 become a great 240.

Volvo developing new three-cylinder engine family

Mon, 25 Aug 2014

Pop the hood on a Volvo of recent vintage and you'll find four-, five-, six- and even eight-cylinder engines. But the Swedish automaker is downsizing its engines over the coming years. The new XC90, set to be revealed later this week, will use a new family of four-cylinder engines (like the one pictured above). But that's not even the end of it as emerging reports speak of a new three-cylinder engine family in the works.
The new 1.5-liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine will, according to reports, help Volvo further cut its carbon emissions in line with constricting regulations in markets like Europe and Australia. There won't be quite as many versions as the four-cylinder range, which will include gasoline and diesel versions in varying states of tune, but the three-pot motor is tipped to be employed in vehicles as large as the S60 and its stablemates. Larger than that, however, and the three-cylinder engine apparently just doesn't have the necessary torque.
Expect the new three-cylinder engine to be introduced sometime later this decade, after the four-cylinder's introduction in 2016. The three-cylinder engine is also set to form the building block of an even more efficient hybrid propulsion system in the future, enabling this new engine family to stay relevant through 2025.

Volvo to use Oz as test bed for more Polestar models?

Tue, 25 Jun 2013

We've already told you about the slightly more awesome version of the Volvo S60 that our friends Down Under can now get their hands on. And according to Aussie site Drive.com.au, Volvo may look to the land of Oz for future testing of new, Polestar-tuned, high-performance models.
Volvo has reportedly confirmed that this S60 Polestar run will be an exercise in testing the acceptance of the Swedish tuner's presence as a proper competitor for things like BMW's M division or Mercedes-Benz's AMG. (A tall order, for sure.) "The world is watching this exercise with much interest," Volvo Cars Australia boss, Matt Braid, told Drive.com.au.
Hans Baath, Polestar Managing Director, reportedly hinted that the tuning house had already begun work on a hotter version of the V40 hatchback, but the project was scrapped in order to get the S60 program rolling. If there's success to be found here, this smaller hot hatch could be revisited, as well as a more powerful version of the XC60 crossover.

Volvo is preparing to abandon its alphanumerical naming system

Fri, Jul 23 2021

Volvo's alphanumerical naming system is familiar, straight-forward, but tilted towards the unimaginative side of the scale. The firm will start from scratch in the coming years, and it plans to give its future models an actual name. "If you look at cars today, they all have XC, T8, AWD, double-overhead-cam — their full specifications on the rear of many cars. Now, we're talking about a new architecture, one that's born electric and all electric. I think it's good and clear to mark that this is a new beginning. That's why we're not going to have numbers and letters, an engineering type of name. We're going to give cars a name as you give a newborn child. We have a very interesting and creative discussion going on about this now," company boss Hakan Samuelsson told Auto Express. He stopped short of providing more details about where Volvo plans to take its naming system. Historically, the company has almost always used numbers, letters or a combination of the two. The first car it released was the OV 4, which stood for oppen vagn 4 cylindrar ("open car, four cylinders" in Swedish). Volvo gained a foothold in the United States thanks to the PV544, among other models. Some of its greatest hits include the P1800, 240 (and its six-cylinder-powered variant, the 260), the Bertone-designed 780, and the 850. Notable exceptions to this decades-old rule include the Amazon (also known as the 120 series) and the Duett (called PV445 in some markets). Regardless of Volvo's next approach to naming cars, the change will be a big one. It sounds like the next-generation XC90 will inaugurate this new naming system. It's expected to make its debut before the end of 2022 with a suite of surprisingly advanced semi-automated driving technology under its sheet metal. Next, the Swedish company will turn its attention to the other side of the crossover scale. It will reportedly launch an entry-level soft-roader positioned below the XC40 and developed to lure younger buyers into showrooms. We previously thought it would wear the XC20 nameplate, though that's seemingly no longer the case. Regardless, the crossover will offer an electric drivetrain and it will "very likely" be made in China, according to Samuelsson, to keep costs in check.
