This excellent car was brought here to Maine from Arizona 5 years ago and has only been driven seasonally after renovation.  There is absolutely no rust apparent on the body, underneath, in the wheel wells - anywhere.  I have individual pictures of all the most rust prone areas on the 240 chassis.  The exterior was repainted years ago because of sun damage in Arizona.  Likewise, the interior was reupholstered tastefully in cloth.  It still look great!  Recent mechanical work (with Volvo original parts) include:  both ball joints and tie rod ends, one steering rod and front end alignment, repack front wheel bearings, bent wheels replaced with good used, exhaust kit (from cat back), fuse box service, replace headlight relay, pcv service and parts replaced as needed, new timing belt and front engine seals (the correct way to do this job), new fuel distributor!! ($431.34).  All fuel injectors and seals, new ignition coil, new air box, wiper blades, tires, steering boot, replaced side molding clips, ignition parts - spark plugs, distributor cap and rotor, taillight assembly, all brake flex lines, bleed brakes, rebuild front brake calipers, replace od relay, water pump, thermostat, brake servo (used), front struts, oil change, alternator bushings. Since this car has been East, over $8,500 has been spent on mechanical repairs.  It is a great daily driver. A current checkup (Vehicle Maintenance Analysis) is provided.  Good luck bidding!

Volvo shows inflatable child seat concept [w/video]

Mon, 14 Apr 2014

Volvo is bringing its emphasis on safety and design to the littlest members of the family with its concept for an inflatable, rearward facing child safety seat. The design is meant to help traveling families by offering a lighter and less bulky alternative to traditional car seats.
The design is quite ingenious. The seat is covered in drop-stitched fabric, which fills with air to create the form of the seat. An electric motor in it allows inflation and deflation in less than 40 seconds, according to Volvo. It weighs less than 5 kilograms (11 pounds) and folds small enough when collapsed to fit into a bag. It even has a Bluetooth connection, so parents can begin expanding it remotely.
The inflatable seat in the brainchild of Lawrence Abele, Volvo's design manager at its Monitoring and Concept Center in Los Angeles, CA. "For many, travelling with young children is a challenge; any assistance to simplify the parents' life with young children is a great thing," he said in a statement released by Volvo. The chair remains a concept for now, and the automaker isn't saying whether it's going to put it into production, but it's a clever solution to a common problem. Scroll down for a video showing it in action and to read the release.

Ford, Volvo join Redwood in EV battery recycling push in California

Mon, Feb 21 2022

Ford and Volvo will join battery recycling startup Redwood Materials in developing processes, starting in California, to collect end-of-life batteries from electric and hybrid vehicles and recover the materials for use in new batteries, the companies said Thursday. Redwood Materials, co-founded by former Tesla executive JB Straubel, formed an earlier partnership last fall with Ford to develop a “closed loop” or circular supply chain for electric vehicle (EV) batteries, from raw materials to recycling. On Thursday, Redwood Materials said it would work directly with dealers and dismantlers in California to identify and recover end-of-life battery packs. The materials in those packs will be recovered and recycled at Redwood Materials facilities in northern Nevada. U.S. automakers Ford and General Motors Co (GM) have said the battery recycling effort is crucial in efforts to develop a domestic supply chain to meet increasing EV demand. GM and battery partner LG Energy Solution last year announced a partnership with startup Li-Cycle to recycle battery scrap material from Ultium Cells, the GM-LG joint venture that is building battery plants in Ohio, Tennessee and Michigan. Redwood Materials has similar partnerships with battery makers Panasonic in Nevada and Envision AESC in Tennessee, as well as with Amazon. Ford and Amazon are among the investors in Redwood Materials. Reporting by Paul Lienert in Detroit; Editing by Mark Potter Green Ford Volvo Green Automakers Electric

AB Volvo lands a big order for electric commercial trucks

Fri, Oct 8 2021

STOCKHOLM — Volvo Trucks has received an order for 100 electric trucks from shipping firm DFDS, its biggest commercial electric truck order to date, the Swedish truck maker said on Wednesday. Volvo Trucks, AB Volvo's main truck brand, said the order was one of the largest ever for heavy electric trucks worldwide, adding that deliveries would start in the fourth quarter of 2022. The FM Electric trucks, which have a range of up to 300 kilometers (186 miles), will be used for both short and long transport in Europe. Volvo, which started serial production of electric trucks in 2019, is targeting for half of its global truck deliveries to be electric in 2030. "We are pleased to see that growing interest among our customers is starting to be reflected in firm orders," Volvo Trucks President Roger Alm said in a statement. A 'green' shift in the transport sector, which generates roughly a quarter of global carbon dioxide emissions, is widely seen as important to help align with global climate goals.   Green Volvo Truck Commercial Vehicles Electric
