This is one of the last 1600 Volvo 240's ever made - special edition, and I am the original owner. Title free and clear. No reserve!

AS IS!  Well, it WAS running when I parked it in our driveway two or so years ago, but it no longer runs (no big surprise), and the tires are flat. I stopped driving it because I just couldn't afford to bring her up to snuff for inspection.  I'm hoping that there is a Volvo enthusiast out there who would be willing to give her some TLC, and bring this very special last of 1600 classic back to her former glory.

I know nothing about cars, but will run through what I do know about this one:
- the odometer stopped working 149K
- there is a small dent right above the right front passenger light (as you can see in the photos)
- carfax erroneously has a report of an accident in 2006 claiming damage to the right side involving a guardrail and another car - NEVER HAPPENED! Absolutely no damage to the right side at all. Here is what did happen (which carfax doesn't show!): in December of 1997, my husband hit another car at a right turn on red stop light wherein he thought the car in front of him had started to turn, but it hadn't, so he hit the rear of the car at low speed. It caused cosmetic damage to the hood, grill and bumper all of which was repaired for $725 (I have the original estimate). You can actually see where the repair took place because the older paint has faded, but the repair paint has not. Absolutely no structural damage.
- the right rear passenger side light needs to be replaced
- the right rear driver side light has a small crack
- the front lights are really cloudy ( don't know if that was always like that - just an observation)
- the stripping on one window in coming loose
- the glove box lock is broken, and we used duck tape to hold it in place
- some of the stripping along the exterior sides has come off, but the pieces are in the car
- there is a plastic piece in the boot, but I don't know what it's from - some where under the car
- normal wear of interior and exterior associated with a 21 year old car
- in 1998 we moved to a county that does not require emissions inspection, so I don't know about that, but since it's a classic (I terms of age not last year made), that may not matter

Oh, and the cassette player doesn't work (for those of you that have that ginormous cassette collection).  My daughter, now a senior at VT, put pennies or bologna in it - I can't remember which honestly (it was one of the two), but it hasn't worked in years - so how did she manage to get into VT?  Just saying.

That is everything that I could see upon a visual inspection.

I do have all the original books, etc., but the owners manual got wet. I also have a lot of the original repair/work receipts - not all I'm sure, but a lot of them.  It seems to me I replaced a heck of a lot of tires!

I will try to answer any questions, but like I said, I can only answer to my seriously limited knowledge of cars.

Look within a few hours, I have many watchers, AND QUESTIONS. You could cannibalize this car for over a thousand AT LEAST.  As a limited edition, it has the original wood trim on the interior and super whatever hubcaps. Just updating.

Volvo at CES announces Ride Pilot autonomy coming to California, deeper Google integration

Wed, Jan 5 2022

Volvo just made a number of technology announcements at this year’s CES. We learned more about the companyÂ’s efforts toward autonomy, and in the near term, VolvoÂ’s infotainment system is getting some noteworthy updates. WeÂ’ll start with autonomy, and the system that Volvo is calling “Ride Pilot.” Volvo says itÂ’s working with the autonomous driving software company Zenseact and Luminar to bring more autonomy to its future vehicles. Today, it announced that the “Ride Pilot” system that will ultimately arise from this collaboration will first be offered to customers in California before rolling it out in other regions. Volvo is limiting initial use to California, because it says "the climate, traffic conditions and regulatory framework provide a favorable environment for the introduction of autonomous driving." The system will take full control of the car when it's on. That means the driver can do what they want, not limited to reading, writing or working, Volvo says. "The name ‘Ride PilotÂ’ implies what the driver can expect: when the car is driving on its own, Volvo Cars takes responsibility for the driving, offering the driver comfort and peace of mind," Volvo explains. ItÂ’ll be available as an add-on subscription service to a fully electric SUV that will be revealed later this year. How much it will cost per month or per year is still a mystery, but you wonÂ’t be able to factor it in with the standard purchase price of the vehicle. Said EV will be equipped with five radars, eight cameras and sixteen ultrasonic sensors. Testing for the above autonomy system is set to take place in California by the middle of this year, and itÂ’s already ongoing in Sweden and across Europe. Only once Volvo says it's verified for use on highways will this feature be available to subscribe to. Volvo does not provide a year estimate on the initial rollout. Google and Android Automotive update Volvo cars with the Google-based Android Automotive infotainment system will soon be integrated with the Google Home ecosystem and Google Assistant-enabled devices. This should give you greater ability to control your car with any Google Assistant device in your home. You could theoretically set charging scheduling (for an EV or PHEV), lock your doors or start the car via voice command — for more sensitive commands like unlocking the car, Volvo says it will require a two-factor authentication.

Volvo celebrates 20 years of sleeper wagons with 850 T-5R and V60 Polestar

Mon, 10 Nov 2014

I must have been around Bar Mitzvah age when I was in the back of my parents' car on the highway as we passed a truck full of Volvo 850 T-5R wagons - half of them in black, half in banana yellow. It was one of the coolest things I'd ever seen: a whole gaggle of sleeper power wagons that were infinitely cooler than whatever minivan we were riding in. Hard to believe that was 20 years ago, but it was. And Polestar is understandably keen to mark the anniversary of the first overt Volvo performance wagon.
While Volvo's racing partner hasn't released some commemorative edition to celebrate that prototypical sleeper, it has shot a special batch of photos of the T-5R (based on the 850 wagon internally known as the 855 for its five doors) alongside its modern successor, the V60 Polestar. The images shot in Huntington Beach, CA, only go to show how much has changed in the two decades that separate them.
Whereas this front-drive T-5R packed a turbocharged inline-five driving 240 horsepower through a four-speed automatic propel the yellow box to 62 in 7.0 seconds, the turbo six in the svelter, Rebel Blue-clad 2015 V60 Polestar churns out 350 hp to all four wheels through a six-speed auto for a 4.9-second sprint. That's the kind of progress we can get behind. In fact, it's the sort of progress that everyone can get behind, really, because chances are whatever you're driving will probably have a hard time keeping up.

Best car infotainment systems: From UConnect to MBUX, these are our favorites

Sun, Jan 7 2024

Declaring one infotainment system the best over any other is an inherently subjective matter. You can look at quantitative testing for things like input response time and various screen load times, but ask a room full of people that have tried all car infotainment systems what their favorite is, and you’re likely to get a lot of different responses. For the most part, the various infotainment systems available all share a similar purpose. They aim to help the driver get where they're going with navigation, play their favorite tunes via all sorts of media playback options and allow folks to stay connected with others via phone connectivity. Of course, most go way beyond the basics these days and offer features like streaming services, in-car performance data and much more. Unique features are aplenty when you start diving through menus, but how they go about their most important tasks vary widely. Some of our editors prefer systems that are exclusively touch-based and chock full of boundary-pushing features. Others may prefer a back-to-basics non-touch system that is navigable via a scroll wheel. You can compare it to the phone operating system wars. Just like some prefer Android phones over iPhones, we all have our own opinions for what makes up the best infotainment interface. All that said, our combined experience tells us that a number of infotainment systems are at least better than the rest. WeÂ’ve narrowed it down to five total systems in their own subcategories that stand out to us. Read on below to see our picks, and feel free to make your own arguments in the comments. Best infotainment overall: UConnect 5, various Stellantis products Ram 1500 Uconnect Infotainment System Review If thereÂ’s one infotainment system that all of us agree is excellent, itÂ’s UConnect. It has numerous qualities that make it great, but above all else, UConnect is simple and straightforward to use. Ease of operation is one of the most (if not the single most) vital parts of any infotainment system interface. If youÂ’re expected to be able to tap away on a touchscreen while driving and still pay attention to the road, a complex infotainment system is going to remove your attention from the number one task at hand: driving. UConnect uses a simple interface that puts all of your key functions in a clearly-represented row on the bottom of the screen. Tap any of them, and it instantly pulls up that menu.
