Oakland, California, United States
Up for sale is a beautiful Volvo 240 DL Sedan from 1991. It drives great, and has been the car I use for work for the last 2 years. I would like to get a truck, which is why I am selling. Please see the details below: 1991 Volvo 240 DL Automatic Charcoal on black. Recently passed smog. Mileage - 197K Features: Kenwood Stereo system CD Player with RCA connector for MP3 or iphone Working glove box (these are typically broken) Nice interior Nice paint job Both front door pockets (also a rare find) Original Volvo mats Dash board carpet/cover Locking trunk Locking gas cap Working odometer Working power windows Cloth seats - nice condition. Recent work done on the car: April, 2014 ·Replaced cracked fuel line January, 2014 · Replaced all four tires · Oil change · Front brake pads and rotors replaced Issues with the car AC motor works, but I don't get cold air. I have not had it looked at, and I don't really need it where I live. Front door does not stay open. It is missing the part that catches the door and keeps it open. Not a huge deal, and door closes fine. Dome light isn't working (though light on console/dash DOES work) Auto-locks don't work One piece of side trim has come off. I still have the piece, and it can reapplied. I don't believe that the air bag is functional. There is an overdrive button, but not sure if it works. I have not had it looked at. Pickup only |

IIHS says these are the safest cars of 2013
Wed, 02 Jan 2013The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has revealed its annual list of Top Safety Picks, an award that highlights automobiles it says offer "superior crash protection." A new and still more significant award, the Top Safety Pick+ honor, is given to those vehicles that earn good ratings for occupant protection in four out of five areas of measure. And while some 117 vehicles were given the TSP seal of approval for 2013, just 13 passed muster for TSP+.
To be fair, IIHS only evaluated 29 vehicles with its new testing procedures for TSP+ (we'd expect that the number of qualified cars will rise substantially for 2014). Luxury and Near Luxury midsize cars were the first groups evaluated, followed by midsizers in the Moderately Priced Cars category - unsurprisingly, it's only midsize cars that you'll find among the class this year.
Only two luxury sedans made the list of 13 for 2013: the Acura TL and Volvo S60. The other 11 cars on the list included entries from domestic, Japanese and German car makers: Dodge Avenger, Chrysler 200, Ford Fusion, Honda Accord (sedan and coupe), Kia Optima (but not its close kin, the Hyundai Sonata, strangely), Nissan Altima, Subaru Legacy and Outback, Suzuki Kizashi and the Volkswagen Passat all made the grade.
Volvo previews Concept XC Coupe ahead of Detroit reveal [w/video]
Wed, 11 Dec 2013Volvo is in the midst of a three-stage design revolution. The first stage came with the reveal of the Concept Coupe in Frankfurt just this past September. What you see here is our first glimpse at the second stage.
The Volvo Concept XC Coupe previewed here will be unveiled in full on January 8 in advance of the Detroit Auto Show. While the previous concept was all sleek, the Concept XC Coupe takes a more rugged, utilitarian approach with a hatchback roofline, higher ride height, knobbier tires, lower body cladding and a rooftop box. From what we can see, it looks like a cross between the previous concept and an XC70 wagon that could preview a soft-road replacement for the C30 hatchback.
That's about all there is to say at this point, but you can scope out the press release along with the video below and the trio of teaser images in the gallery above.
Volvo celebrates 20 years since 850 wagons came to BTCC
Wed, 30 Apr 2014This year Honda Yuasa Racing brought a station wagon back to the ranks of competitors in the British Touring Car Championship (its drivers currently sit in third and fifth place in the Championship). In 1994, however, Volvo was the first team to run an estate in the series that's one of the best for delivering close racing.
Rickard Rydell and Jan Lammers drove the duo of 850 Estates prepped by Tom Walkinshaw Racing, lining up at Thruxton and proving that the rumors of a wagon in the series weren't a joke. The team used that year for development, getting the 2.0-liter, 290-horsepower, naturally aspirated five-cylinder engine ready for the next year's proper assault. The team's best finish over the 21 races was a fifth place, and they took 14th overall.
Rules changes led Volvo to switch to the 850 sedan the following year, but all the right noises had been made with the wagon. Rydell drive on to a third-place overall finish in 1995, three years later he claimed the Championship title. You'll find details and reminiscing from Rydell in the press release below, as well as the full video with scenes from the glory days.
