West Palm Beach, Florida, United States

1990 Volvo 240 DL Station Wagon.

184000 miles showing on the non-working odometer.

I have two of these little 240 wagons, the first is also here on eBay and figured I’d let this one go as well. This one runs well, but it is showing its age of now 24.

4 Cylinder engine that runs very well with Automatic transmission that shifts smoothly.

The car drives straight and handles well.

Power windows (All work)

AM/FM/CD aftermarket system.

Recent tune up.

Kelly tires with probably 80% of their tread remaining (matching set).

Volvo 240 Turbo Virgo wheels.

Paint is nice on the sides, roof and hood need to be painted.

Always a Florida car.

Interior (original tan) is in decent condition. Front cloth seats are nice, rear seat shows age,   door panels are decent, no map pockets, dash is nice. Overall, the interior is showing the typical Volvo age.

Car originally had a roof rack, I didn’t get it with the car, but got those other roof racks that are in one of the photos. They are included with the car when sold.

The car does have some negative points, I’ll list them below. Overall It’s still a solid little good running car that I felt was worth the time and effort to make nice once again, but I just have way too many other things going on.

Rear hatch needs new lift supports. It’s a head banger if you’re not paying attention.

Outer rubber door window seals are showing their age and have some cracking (pictured).

I think that the power steering pump is on its way out, its stiff to turn when cold.

There are a few spots of rust on the car by where the roof rack used to bolt down. But it appears to be just on the surface.

Carpet is faded. Rear cargo carpet is faded and soiled.

A/C is not cold. Was charged last summer and worked for some months, but slowly began to get warmer.

That’s everything I can think of at the moment, if I missed anything, it was by no means intentional.

You can have this little car for $1650.00. I know it's less than most any other one on eBay is selling for, but I figured that this price reflects the amount of things that it will need to be a really nice car again.

Any questions, feel free to shoot me an email.

If you are local (or even if you’re not) and would like to inspect the car prior to bidding, let me know and we can certainly make arrangements for you to do so.

The car is in Royal Palm Beach FL, 33411

Thanks.

Volvo PV444 turns 70

Sun, 31 Aug 2014

Volvo has made all manner of vehicles over the course of its long history, including coupes, convertibles, hatchbacks, sedans, wagons and SUVs. But the vehicle that started it all was the PV444.
Or rather, we should say, the PV444 is what re-started it all. Because while it wasn't Volvo's first model, it was the first one it produced after the war. Monday, September 1, will mark 70 years since the PV444 first debuted at the Royal Tennis Hall in Stockholm pictured above, where the company received 148,437 visitors.
That presentation there took place shortly before the end of World War II when the vehicle wasn't even finished yet. A team of 40 engineers and designers were still fine-tuning the final version, but were eager to show the public what it would start building after the last bullet was fired and peace would return to Europe.

Dealers mobilize to protect their margins from automaker subscription services

Fri, Aug 24 2018

Six individual auto brands — Lincoln, Cadillac, Porsche, Mercedes, BMW and Volvo — have established or are trialing a vehicle subscription service in the U.S. Three third-party companies — Flexdrive, Clutch and Carma — run brand-agnostic subscription services. And three automakers — Mercedes-Benz, BMW, and General Motors — have also launched short-term rental services. Dealers, afraid of how these trends might affect their margins, are building political and lawmaking campaigns to protect their revenue streams. So far, three states are investigating automaker subscriptions, and Indiana has banned any such service until next year. It's certain that those three states are the first fronts in a long political and legal battle. Powerful dealer franchise laws mandate the existence of dealers and restrict how automakers are allowed to interact with customers to sell a vehicle. On top of that, Bob Reisner, CEO of Nassau Business Funding & Services, said, "Dealers and their associations are among the strongest political operators in many states. They as a group are difficult for state politicians to vote against." In California earlier this year, the state Assembly debated a bill with wide-ranging provisions to protect against what the California New Car Dealers Association called "inappropriate treatment of dealers by manufacturers." One of those provisions stipulated that subscription services need to go through dealers, but that item got stripped out when dealers and manufacturers agreed to discuss the matter further. In Indiana, Gov. Eric Holcomb signed a moratorium on all subscription programs by dealers or manufacturers until May 1, 2019, to give legislators more time to investigate. Dealers in New Jersey have taken their campaign to the state capitol, asking that the cars in subscription programs get a different classification for registration purposes. Automakers run the current subscription services and own the vehicles. Sign-ups and financial transactions happen online or through apps, leaving dealers to do little more than act as fulfillment centers to various degrees, with little legal recourse as to compensation amounts when they're called on to deliver or service a car. That's a bad base to build on for business owners who've sunk millions of dollars into their operations.

The first trailer for Top Gear's 24th season shows a hands-free drag race

Tue, Dec 27 2016

In the excitement over Amazon's new motoring show, it's important to remember that there's a certain series from the BBC that's attempting to get its mojo back for a 24th season. Yes, we're talking about Top Gear. Since Chris Evans' departure earlier this year, Top Gear news has been relatively sparse, particularly as The Grand Tour and its hosts Jeremy Clarkson, James May, and Richard Hammond seized headlines. But on Christmas, watchers of the series' YouTube channel caught a glimpse of the first scene from the next season. Featuring hosts Matt LeBlanc, Chris Harris, and Rory Reid in what looks like a trio of old, dilapidated cars. We're thinking TG is running a taxi comparison. There's a London black cab and a Mercedes-Benz W210 – a favorite of European cabbies – but we aren't sure where Harris' boxy wagon fits in. Did the Volvo 850 Estate ever serve as a livery vehicle? But it's the basis for this comparison that's weird, because the hosts appear to be having a no-hands drag race. The cars veer off in different directions, traveling across what looks like a snow-covered dirt lot. We're assuming hilarity ensues. And while we don't quite know what they're hoping to accomplish, we are looking forward to watching it go down. Top Gear's 24th season doesn't have an official air date, and the video ends only with a cryptic "Coming Soon." Expect to hear more in the next few months.
