1990 Volvo 240 Dl Sedan 4-door 2.3l on 2040-cars
Oak Ridge, Tennessee, United States
This vehicle was purchased as part of an estate sale. The original husband/wife owners from North Carolina kept this vehicle garaged and serviced for approximately 23 years ! This car is in MINT condition for the year. You would be hard-pressed to find a nicer, cleaner and more beautiful 1990 Volvo 240 DL ! The safety & reliability of the Volvo 240 is legendary. This car is a TANK and is in stunning condition. A stack of maintenance paperwork, the original owners manual and 2 sets of keys for this Volvo. This vehicle always starts on the first try and simply floats down the highway -- drives SO good, you would never know the car was almost 25 years old ! We would definitely be keeping this one but we are getting a new Acura and unfortunately the Acura will get the Volvo's spot in the garage. This vehicle has been garaged and protected all of its life and we just don't want it to sit outside (and we don't really have the space for it). The exterior paint is in GORGEOUS condition with no signs of rust anywhere. I cannot even find a door-ding which is amazing for a 25 year old car. The interior is a medium blue color and is in extra good condition. The headliner (white headliner) is nearly PERFECT! Seat upholstery and carpet are incredibly clean. This would be a perfect first car or a car for the Volvo enthusiast. The odometer stopped working at 200,625 miles (this is a very common problem with the Volvo 240's). The odometer can be repaired at a Volvo dealership or you could probably find a mechanic to fix this. On the last trip to get the oil changed, the mechanic said the vehicle probably has approximately 220K miles would be his best guess. He also stated he had never seen a 240 come in to his shop in such great condition. I was told that the air conditioner requires a freon charge every summer/every other summer. This vehicle has all of the original Volvo glass (no cracks, chips, etc). to have original glass all the way around on a car nearly 25 years old is remarkable. We are located close to the Knoxville TN area. If you want the car shipped, you will be responsible for setting all of that up. We have Greyhound Bus Station, MegaBus and an airport all in close proximity. If you have any questions you can contact me at 865.235.4805 (please contact me before 10PM EST). If you would like additional pics, please let me know. Thanks and Happy Bidding ! :)

Used Volvo V70 wagon for $20 million includes New York 'New York' vanity plate
Mon, Mar 22 2021Billed as the world's most expensive Volvo wagon, a dark blue New York-based V70 is currently for sale for $20 million (and probably will be for some time). It's not the car that makes the sale special, though. It's the New York state vanity plate that reads "NEW YORK." Indeed, the ad lists a Volvo but it doesn't even mention the year, mileage or model, and in photos it's still wearing a fresh sheen of road salt. Custom plates are big business in some parts of the world. It also should be noted that the plates are of a recent design and not of the original 1970 issue. New York allows you to update vanity plates to new designs for a small fee. According to the listing on Du Pont Registry, the current owner of the plate suggested that their father buy the plate in the 1970s. This was when New York first began offering personalized plates. Surprisingly, it had not yet been claimed, allowing the family to ride around with the words "New York, New York" plastered on their government-issued vehicle identification for four decades. While the ad claims that the plate, replicas of which are sold in souvenir shops all over the Big Apple, is transferable to any vehicle, we have our doubts. Best we can tell, New York license plates don't stay with the car. The Empire State requires you to surrender your plates when you sell your car, unless you're planning on transferring them to a new car. However, the transfer can only be done, according to the New York DMV, if the names on both registrations are the same. You can't even transfer the plate to your spouse. The same rules apply for personalized plates. If you sell a vanity plated car without an immediate replacement, you can store the personalized plate with the New York DMV and then reinstate them later, but nowhere does it say the plate can be transferred. In fact, the DMV says "The new owner must apply for a new vehicle registration, vehicle plates and a title certificate. The new owner does not use the vehicle plates or the registration items of the previous owner." As our own Joe Lorio put it, "Whoever buys that Volvo might end up with just a very expensive used Volvo wagon."
Greetings from Trollhattan. I'm Emily, but I'm not a Saab.
Sat, Apr 29 2023What’s Swedish for “never give up”? Saab, apparently. The fondly-remembered car company formerly called just that — and now named NEVS — is only a shell, employing just a limited crew in the land of trolls. But itÂ’s got something to sell, and that something seems like it's really something. ItÂ’s called Emily. The Emily GT exists as six prototype electric cars, according to NEVS, with a combined horsepower rating (per car) of 484 powered by an enormous 175-kilowatt lithium-ion battery thatÂ’s good for 600 miles of range. In development almost since Saab's demise — the company, once owned by General Motors, was closed down in 2010 — the Emily is a very real product and needs a real sponsor, according to NEVS CEO Nina Selander, speaking to Carup. “It is for sale, it is also a joy to be able to show it. It should be allowed to live on, itÂ’s too nice, too good and too modern a car for nothing to come of it. Interested parties are welcome,” she said. Photos of the car show a modern, forward-thrust profile with handsome lines, a look similar to the last Saab 9-5 and VolvoÂ’s S60 (must be a Swedish thing) and a fashionable, sci-fi-ish interior. A hopeful engineer on the project estimates that the car is less than two years away from some kind of series production, but according to the modest NEVS website, the company is currently in “hibernation” even as it continues to solicit buyers for the Emilys. Said Peter Dahl, the Emily project manager, “Many have asked us what we have been doing for 10 years. We have developed 13 different car projects, this is one of them.” Related video: Volvo Saab Automotive History Electric Future Vehicles Classics
These cars are headed to the Great Crusher In The Sky
Fri, 24 Aug 2012It happens every year. We bid adieu to some cars and trucks that will be missed, and say good riddance to others wondering how they stayed around so long. Whether they're being killed off for slow sales or due to a new product coming along to replace them, the list of vehicles being discontinued after 2012 is surprisingly long and diverse.
CNN Money has compiled a list of departing vehicles, to which we've added a few more of our own. In the slow sales column, cars like the Lexus HS 250h, Mercedes-Benz R-Class and the full Maybach lineup appear, while the Ford Escape Hybrid, Mazda CX-7 and Hyundai Veracruz are all having their gaps filled with more modern and more fuel-efficient alternatives. Obvious exceptions to the rule include models that still sell in decent numbers like the Jeep Liberty and the Chrysler Town & Country (which will eventually be replaced by a crossover-like vehicle).
Check out our gallery of discontinued cars above, then scroll down for more information.
