1989 Volvo – 160,000 actual miles!  One Owner! Non Smoker.  Rust free.  Near mint condition and to the best of my knowledge, mechanically sound -  inside and out.* It just breaks my heart to put it on the market.

The miles are documented, the radio, cassette player and speakers work great.  The Michelin rubber on all four wheels is in great shape.  There is a small pin prick in the glass and a couple of very small interior surface cracks – which are barely noticeable. The heat blows hot and the AC works – but could use a charge.  The seats and carpet look new – but are original.  The engine compartment looks like its been detailed – but it hasnt – just immaculate and without any known leaks. The car runs smooth at 80mph without breaking a sweat and is a fantastic example of Volvo engineering!

As you can see from the pictures, I have a treasure trove of Volvo memorabilia, literature and even have the original bill of sale and the original window sticker.  To many new/replacement items to mention but has new belts, (including Timing), Tires, Radiator, Exhaust to name a few.  Car is leak free. The detailed documentation – shows that the oil was changed every 5,000 miles and that all of the manufacturers’ recommended maintenance work was performed on schedule by the local Volvo dealer.  The vehicle has always been garaged and literally driven about 4,000 miles a year.  Records show that the dealer regularly washed and waxed the car– so the paint looks brand new!

*Unfortunately, the car was recently side-swiped on the interstate.  The title is clear (not salvage) but sadly, the left quarter panel was damaged and the bumper torn (and ultimately removed).  Since the impact wasnt direct, the frame appears to be solid and true (see the attached pictures) and the car drives without any pull or sway – the same way it has for the last 25 years!

Our pearl white 240 is being sold as is – but you are welcome to inspect it in advance of placing your bid – but if not, you will need to pay close attention to the photos.  If you are the winning bidder - payment is due within 24 hours.  Vehicle needs to be picked up within 7 days.  Storage for up to 30 days is available at $15.00 per day – but arrangements will need to be made in advance.

With such a low reserve, this is clearly one of the best dollar for dollar 240 values on Ebay.  We live in Dublin, which is a suburb outside of Columbus, Ohio.  After making a few calls, I can confirm that bumpers are available in the Midwest for between $100 and $150 with quarter panels also readily available.  After this baby is put back together – it will once again be a spectacular show car and will hopefully provide its new owner with many happy miles of driving.

Please feel free to contact me directly with any questions and happy bidding!

Cars with the worst resale value in 2022

Thu, Nov 10 2022

Car values are all over the map right now. Used vehicles that were worth a small fortune earlier this year are now coming back to Earth, but the new vehicle supply remains tight. Prices are still elevated overall, but some models have seen more severe price drops. Depreciation strikes almost every model, supply constraint or not, though a few vehicles are leading the way. New research from analytics iSeeCars found that a handful of cars depreciated more than 50 percent over five years, with the BMW 7 Series dropping 56.9 percent and an average price cut of $61,923 over that time. The vehicles with the highest depreciation — or worst resale value — over five years: BMW 7 Series: -56.9% Maserati Ghibli: -56.3% Jaguar XF: -54% Infiniti QX80: -52.6% Cadillac Escalade ESV: 52.3% Mercedes-Benz S-Class: 51.9% Lincoln Navigator: -51.9% Audi A6: -51.5% Volvo S90: -51.4% Ford Expedition: -50.7% iSeeCarsÂ’ research showed that midsize trucks, sports cars, and fuel-efficient vehicles were slowest to depreciate over five years, while itÂ’s clear that luxury brands tend to lose value much faster. As iSeeCarsÂ’ Executive Analyst Karl Brauer explained, used buyers donÂ’t value high-end vehiclesÂ’ features as much as the first owners, so resale values tend to be softer. The tech and options that made the cars so expensive and appealing new donÂ’t add the same value on the used market. Read more: Cars with the best resale value Interestingly, electric vehicles also depreciated quite heavily, though they were just short of the abysmal numbers in luxury segments. The Nissan Leaf depreciated most among EVs, dropping by 49.1 percent. The average EV depreciation is 44.2 percent, with the Tesla Model S and Model X sliding in right under the bar at 43.7 and 38.8 percent, respectively. As iSeeCars notes, itÂ’s important to be vigilant when car shopping and not let your emotions win over reason. Shiny new luxury cars look great in the showroom, but you could end up taking a bath when you try selling them a few years later on. Watch this Volvo truck drive up a quarry road using hamster-powered steering

Fri, 13 Sep 2013

Volvo Trucks has been producing some of the most interesting and thrilling commercials around as of late, and this new one involves a live hamster. While you may wonder how could a hamster and a dump truck could be exciting, just know this ain't a Kia Soul commercial: the Swedish truck company enlists the help of a hamster named Charlie to steer an FMX construction truck up a winding road in Ourence, Spain. From the bottom of a quarry. We are not kidding you.
All we ask is that you watch the commercial below to see how it all goes down. If you like what you see, you can then check out a bonus 'behind the scenes' video and press release for details about how Volvo Trucks prepared for the stunt.

Roger Moore dies at 89; a look back at his automotive moments

Tue, May 23 2017

According to Reuters, actor Roger Moore passed away this morning. The news source reports he died of cancer at age 89. Moore has a place in automotive enthusiasts' hearts thanks to his connection to some of the most famous onscreen cars in history. He portrayed James Bond in multiple films, perhaps most famously in The Spy Who Loved Me, in which his Bond piloted an amphibious Lotus Esprit. That car inspired many, even Elon Musk, who purchased the submarine version of the car. He also included it as an Easter egg in the Tesla Model S. That wasn't the only memorable Moore automotive moment. In two other Bond films, his character was involved in some remarkable stunts. In The Man with the Golden Gun, Moore's Bond drives an AMC Hornet over a ramp and does a barrel roll. Although cheesy, the stunt did happen. According to The Telegraph, a Cornell University aeronautical computer ran a simulation of the stunt and calculated the variables (such as the proper speed: 40 mph). Then British stuntman Loren "Bumps" Willard executed the roll on the first take, earning a GBP30,000 bonus. Which is a lot of money for a scene that uses a slide whistle as a sound effect. Moore is also associated with a great car thanks to his other famous role on the TV show The Saint. In that series, he drove the beautiful and unusual Volvo P1800 coupe. The car was enough of an icon that Jay Leno featured it on his Jay Leno's Garage series. Related Video:
