1985 Volvo 240dl Low Miles on 2040-cars

Year:1985 Mileage:82800
Location:

Saint Petersburg, Florida, United States

Saint Petersburg, Florida, United States

I'm selling my 85 Volvo DL that I just bought.  Financial difficulties that arose soon after I bought this car have made selling it necessary.  I looked for a long time before finding the right car and this is it.  As you can see it has less than 83,000 miles and I only found one small rust spot on the car and that was in the driver's side spare tire area inside the trunk.  The top, hood and truck have faded paint but on the sides the paint is in remarkably good shape.  The car runs and drives beautifully and has absolutely no issues with engine, transmision, suspension or brakes.   I would not hesitate to drive this car anywhere.

The original Volvo radio works but the casette and power antenna don't.  The dash has some cracks.  The A/C cools but needs work.  The left tail light has been hard wired and will need some attention.  Except for these items I know of nothing the car needs.  I just changed the oil, putting in Royal Purple 5W30 and a premium filter.  It had a pinhole in the power steering reservoir which I repaired.

I have figured out most of the history of the car from the books and a Carfax.  The Carfax only begins in 1990 but the owner's  manual (which is included) indicates it was bought in Atlanta at Chris Imports (now Marietta Volvo) on 11/3/1984.  The Volvo Service record book that came with the car was kept up until 8/19/1987 when it was serviced at 30260 miles at Chris.  The Carfax shows it received an emissions inspection in California on 10/9/1992 and had 61,810 miles on it.  A title was issued in Florida in 1997.  It was purchased from an estate in 2012 and sold to the gentleman I bought it from.  I believe I am the fourth owner if you count the person who bought it from the estate to sell.  The Carfax does not indicate any accidents with the car.

Because I have told you everything I know about the issues the car please don't think it isn't a really a great car, because it is.  It is however a used car and I can't offer any warranties.  I can tell you I would not risk my reputation on Ebay to make a few bucks.  I try to avoid glowing terms that some sellers use knowing the winning bidder will be pleansantly surprised with, not disappointed in. their purchase.

Terms are $500.00 within 48 hours of close of bidding and the balance within five (5) working days by paypal or 7 working day by cash or financial instrument.  Any type of cashier's check or money order will have to clear before the car is released to a shipper.  I have a clear Florida title.

OTHER:  Complete tuneup including fuel injection service, plugs, wires, and air filter at 70,744 miles on 7/21/2013.  On 6/10/13 it had a "prepump" installed which is the fuel pump in the tank I believe.  It has four matching Michelin tires with plenty of tread as shown in the pictures.

Uber releases fleet of self-driving vehicles to select few in Pittsburgh

Wed, Sep 14 2016

Starting today, a select group of Uber users in Pittsburgh, PA will have the ability to request a self-driving vehicle. If a self-driving vehicle is in the area, Uber will send it, as well as a safety driver, to drive loyal customers to their destination. The announcement to give customers the opportunity to get a ride in one of Uber's self-driving vehicles comes roughly a year and a half after the company set up its Advanced Technologies Center in the city. On Tuesday, the company offered a few members of the press the opportunity to ride in one of the company's self-driving cars. The fleet, despite Uber's collaboration with Volvo, was comprised of 14 Ford Fusions equipped with a host of self-driving technology, reports TechCrunch. Uber is giving away free rides as a way to obtain real-world testing, which is crucial for self-driving technology. Recently, nuTonomoy beat Uber to the punch by launching the world's first autonomous taxis in Singapore. While the choice to release its self-driving cars in Pittsburgh mainly comes down to the fact that its ATC is located there, the city faces four seasons and its difficult streets that are comprised of bridges, railroad lines, and an irregular grid layout will prove to be a challenge for the autonomous cars. Since the self-driving vehicles are still being tested, the cars will come with two full-time Uber employees. One employee will loosely grasp the car's steering wheel, ready to take over if something goes awry, while the other will monitor the computer's software. As TechCrunch points out, Uber's autonomous vehicles drove in a similar manner to a regular driver. It obeyed traffic laws, mimicked a driver by coming to stops gently and at other times abruptly, as well as driving slightly into another lane to dodge a poorly-parked vehicle, reports TechCrunch. There's no word on whether regular Uber customers will get a ride in one of the company's Fusions or one of the Volvo's that its working on. Automakers and companies alike have been in a race to put autonomous vehicles on the road. Tesla recently updated its Autopilot system, Apple laid off dozens of employees to reboot its self-driving car project, and Google is working giving its autonomous vehicle the ability to detect emergency vehicles. While this is a large step for Uber, vehicles with autonomous capabilities still have a long way to go.

Volvo XC40 delayed because it's too big for its own good?

Thu, 11 Jul 2013

As fuel prices rise and greenhouse gases poke holes in the ozone, big, gas-guzzling sports utility vehicles are becoming less popular as smaller, cleaner vehicles, such as crossovers, gain market share. Volvo is late to the small crossover party, though it wants to build the XC40 crossover to compete with the Land Rover Evoque. The only problem with that, Autocar reports, is that a suitable (read: small enough) platform for it is up to five years away, despite a hopeful photos of it in testing guise.
Volvo is currently developing a new platform, called SPA (Scaleable Platform Architecture), to underpin its next-generation of vehicles, such as the 2014 XC60 pictured above and the S60 sedan, which is likely the smallest vehicle that would be able to use the new platform. Furthermore, there doesn't seem to be a quick fix for the gaping hole in Volvo's lineup, and Geely, the Chinese budget car manufacturer that owns Volvo, is reportedly preparing to launch a mid-market brand that may or may not be sold outside of China.
Can't Swedish car manufacturers catch a break?

Volvo's Geneva-bound concept wagon looks sexy in a raincoat

Fri, 21 Feb 2014

Volvo is set to complete its concept car trilogy at the next month's Geneva Motor Show with the debut of its Concept Estate, the followup to its Concept Coupe from the Frankfurt Motor Show and Concept XC Coupe from the Detroit Auto Show. We've been looking forward to its Swiss debut, and now some teaser images of the Concept Estate have been uncovered... on the website of a raincoat seller?
Yes, Swedish raincoat maker Stutterheim has apparently been commissioned by Volvo to build a high-quality car cover for its Geneva concept, and the fabricator's website shows off some of the details of the long-roofed design study. From what we can see, it looks like the Concept Estate is more shooting brake than traditional wagon. Also, it's brown. So basically, Volvo has built the ultimate car for auto journalists.
Joking aside, the images show off more than a few of the design traits we've seen on Volvo's two previous concept cars. A wide, rectangular grille and lowercase-B-shaped taillights are both noticeable in these teasers, but we can't see much more than that.
