Rescued from a Texas used car dealership and carefully restored here in Jersey. Here's the real story of Grandma Boone as told to me by her husband and grandson: Carol Boone loved her Turbo and she was very particular about it. Sending it back for local repairs frequently with many minor complaints. I have pages of paperwork with complaints like "whistling noises", "groaning brakes", "uncomfortable seats", "improperly adjusted a/c vents" etc. It's actually pretty funny but Mrs Boone was not shy about spending money on her Volvo. I hold most, if not every, major repair receipt. She rarely drove the car and always kept it in the garage. As she grew older in the 1990's she drove the car less and less frequently. By the end of the 90's, it just sat in the garage. In 2002 it had 12k on the odometer when Mrs. Boone spent over $3500 to put it back on the road. She replaced the gas tank, fuel pumps, lines, distributor, new belts (including timing), trans & coolant flush, oil change, etc. In Summer of '03 she backed into a Texas roadside irrigation ditch and did $1624 of repair damage. Mostly the muffler and rear bumper. Carfax reflects this single minor accident and I have the auto body repair receipt. The accident ended Grandma Boone's driving days and unfortunately she passed away in 2005. Her husband and adult grandson drove the car around locally from 16-24k miles then traded the car into a Texas used car dealership this past summer for . . .... $1000. (They reportedly bought another Volvo if that makes you feel any better). I saw the car advertised on Craigslist and bought it sight unseen then shipped it to Jersey for restoration. So this actually is Grandma's original Turbobrick stored in a Texas time capsule for 3 decades. Interior- The leather seats are soft. Yes, soft tan leather seats. No rips or cracking only minor wear. No dash cracks with only minor sun fading throughout. Sunroof operates perfectly as well as all gauges, switches, chimes and lights. The A/C blows cold as it should. Exterior- The paint is in fantastic shape. A minor blemish here and there but nothing close to clear coat breakdown. One very small ding on drivers front wheel well. Again, there is no rust anywhere on this car. I also have an undercoating receipt from summer of '83. The rims are in excellent shape. Best Virgo's I've ever seen. Only one or two spots of very light rash out of 4. The original optional red bumper stripe is still attached but parts of the stripe are peeling. Mechanics- The car runs and handles perfectly and it's a complete joy to drive. You really get an idea of how tight these cars felt right off of the showroom floor. No record of a wiring harness replacement but there is no need. The original looks nearly perfect. I don't think you could find a used Turbo harness in better shape. Staged 0'd. Bougicord plugs, wires, cap, rotor and oil filter. Bosch alternator Cleaned grounds, replaced fuses, new battery Minor issues- The fuel filter is not OEM Pictures show the Alpine head unit and old glove box lock but both have been properly replaced. Later style rear deck tabs in pictures have been replaced with correct ones. I have a spare tire cover on the way also. Proper plush tan floor mats included. I simply ran it through the car wash for pictures. It would look even better after a nice detailing. Swag around your local meet in style. This car could easily be concourse shown. Maybe drop in an M46? Or it could be stripped down for an epic rebuild around the flawless shell. Or maybe just store it away as a retirement investment (it will surely appreciate in value more than your IRA). Car is currently located in 08501 New Jersey and available for prompt inspection. I am just off Exit 7a of the NJ Turnpike (I-95). I am also very close to Route 1, Route 130, I-195, and trains. NJ Transit's Northeast Corridor line stops nearby in Hamilton and Amtrak stops in Trenton. I'm also 45 mins from Newark and Philly airports. I am also willing to ship this car at 100% your expense. I hold the clean title in hand and will not release it to you without full confirmed payment 12/6 Item relisted because original listing had an incorrect VIN #. (Vin's can't be edited, only relisted) |

Apple announces CarPlay in-car iPhone interface
Mon, 03 Mar 2014Apple, maker of tech items like the iPhone, iPad and Mac line of computers, is extending its reach into the automotive market, making a fairly big announcement ahead of the Geneva Motor Show. No, it hasn't bought Tesla (yet). Instead, Apple has announced CarPlay, an all-new means of controlling an iPhone through your car.
Now, this doesn't strike us as some gimmicky thing. It's become increasingly common for automakers to take advantage of the high-speed data streams its customers enjoy on their smartphones in order to integrate navigation, traffic, audio and other infotainment items into a car's touchscreen interface. The Chevrolet Spark and Sonic are two prime examples of this move, using an iPhone's data stream for Siri integration and data for a third-party navigation app.
Owners will be able to plug in their iPhones to their cars via the USB port and gain control of a number of the device's functions, all through a car's touchscreen.
Volvo releases extensive model updates for 2014
Tue, 19 Feb 2013The 2014 model year is going to see big changes for the Volvo lineup. The biggest news is that the "60 cluster" models (the S60, V60 and XC60) are receiving some substantial updates despite not being all that old, and Volvo is also refreshing the S80, V70 and XC70 models. Of course, the 2014 model year also marks the departure of the C30 and C70 from its lineup, and we still have at least a year to wait until we see the redesigned XC90.
Except for the XC90, all of the 2014 Volvos will be getting noticeable design updates. The S60, V60 and XC60 get more in-depth changes, including a full front facelift. All will use an evolution of the "naughty" design that debuted on the S60. The rear of all three cars get some changes, too, most notably consisting of the reshaped rear fascia with the integrated exhaust outlets. S80, V70 and XC70 will get more minor changes - mostly to bring them in line with the fresher models. The XC70 keeps is rugged plastic cladding, but it gets some stylish wheels with what look like arrowhead accents.
Inside, all of these updated models will new in-car technology such as the Sensus Connected Touch infotainment system and the adaptive digital display with a TFT (thin film transistor) screen. This reconfigurable screen allows the driver to choose between three different themes - Elegance, Eco and Performance - which changes the color and layout of the background. Other new features include heated windshields, Active High Beam Control for the headlights, paddle shifters for a little added driver involvement and IntelliSafe active safety systems (City Safety, Pedestrian Detection and Road Sign Information) The S80, V70 and XC70 will also add heated steering wheels to their respective options sheets, too.
2022 Volvo XC60 Recharge First Drive Review | Pumping up the electric range
Thu, Mar 24 2022PALM SPRINGS, Calif — It may not look like it on the outside, but the 2022 Volvo XC60 Recharge is a substantially updated plug-in hybrid SUV. In fact, the entire XC60 line is refreshed for the 2022 model year, but weÂ’re going to zero in on the Recharge PHEV. Volvo let us spend a day behind the wheel of the newly-announced “extended range” Recharge model in sunny California, and we came away with far more feelings than expected from this Swedish crossover. Just so everybody is on the same page, the “extended range” Recharge represents a mid-model-year refresh of the XC60 Recharge. There were 2022 model year XC60 Recharge models sold prior to today that featured the same electric hardware as prior model years, and therefore featured the old EPA-estimated electric range of 19 miles on a full charge. The “extended range” model that we drove bumps that all the way up to 36 miles, nearly doubling the previous range. Volvo says that these new “extended range” models are the ones shipping to dealers now, not the older model. This is definitely something to be aware of in later years should you find a used 2022 XC60. So, how has Volvo found this much extra range? The big difference is in the battery pack, going from an 11.6-kilowatt-hour pack to an 18.8-kWh pack. Volvo managed to package a third layer of cells into the pack that it didnÂ’t have before, and it did so in the same space as before — it continues to run along the carÂ’s spine in the center tunnel area. Volvo claims that this more energy-dense battery pack will take 5-8 hours to charge when hooked up to a 240V power source, so you should easily get a full charge by leaving it plugged in overnight, assuming you have the applicable charging hardware. This new battery pack is paired with a totally revamped powertrain setup. The layout is the same as before. That means there is an electric motor positioned on the rear axle that drives the rear wheels and a gasoline engine in front that exclusively powers the front wheels, thereby giving the XC60 Recharge all-wheel drive. To our delight, both the electric motor and the gasoline engine are new this year. The new rear electric motor represents a big power boost, with 143 horsepower greatly surpassing the old motorÂ’s 87 horsepower. Ultimately, this means that the XC60 Recharge is now significantly more enjoyable to drive in its purely electric mode (aptly named “Pure”).
