1979 Volvo 242 Only 54,000 Original Miles! Clean! Always Garaged! on 2040-cars
San Diego, California, United States
This car was my grandmother's, had been garaged from the mid 1980's until she recently passed away and I got it. It is clean, clean, clean. I had a mechanic drain the fuel tank, install a new fuel pump, battery and fluids, and a new water pump, it started up but ran real rough then died again. He thinks the injectors will need to be replaced but I am out of money. Other than the exposed metal at the dent as shown, there is no rust! Rocker panels are perfect! Still has the original cocoa floor mats. Had the original sheepskin seat covers but they had fallen apart with age so I removed them. It's easier to list the few things that are wrong than all that is right. The left arm rest has a slight tear in it, the right arm rest feels rough, there is a coffee spill in the carpet at the center console, the rims and caps have rust, and there are two antennas for some reason. She hit a parking pole on the left front, I spoke to a body shop and he said it was going to be easy to correct and keep the original fender. There is a dime sized dent on the right door as seen in the pictures. A bit of TLC and this will look like it just rolled off the showroom floor! No hunting for obscure interior or exterior trim work to complete the project! I have 50 high resolution photos I can forward on request. Too many and too large for Ebay's servers I guess. Vehicle is being sold as is. Buyer is responsible for all transportation costs. $500 deposit via Paypal or cash required within 48 hours of auction close. Balance of funds to be paid in cash, direct bank wire, or cashier's check which will be held for 9 days until funds have cleared.

Roger Moore dies at 89; a look back at his automotive moments
Tue, May 23 2017According to Reuters, actor Roger Moore passed away this morning. The news source reports he died of cancer at age 89. Moore has a place in automotive enthusiasts' hearts thanks to his connection to some of the most famous onscreen cars in history. He portrayed James Bond in multiple films, perhaps most famously in The Spy Who Loved Me, in which his Bond piloted an amphibious Lotus Esprit. That car inspired many, even Elon Musk, who purchased the submarine version of the car. He also included it as an Easter egg in the Tesla Model S. That wasn't the only memorable Moore automotive moment. In two other Bond films, his character was involved in some remarkable stunts. In The Man with the Golden Gun, Moore's Bond drives an AMC Hornet over a ramp and does a barrel roll. Although cheesy, the stunt did happen. According to The Telegraph, a Cornell University aeronautical computer ran a simulation of the stunt and calculated the variables (such as the proper speed: 40 mph). Then British stuntman Loren "Bumps" Willard executed the roll on the first take, earning a GBP30,000 bonus. Which is a lot of money for a scene that uses a slide whistle as a sound effect. Moore is also associated with a great car thanks to his other famous role on the TV show The Saint. In that series, he drove the beautiful and unusual Volvo P1800 coupe. The car was enough of an icon that Jay Leno featured it on his Jay Leno's Garage series. Related Video:
Swedish man charged with spying on Volvo for Russia
Tue, Feb 23 2021STOCKHOLM — Sweden has indicted a 47-year-old man suspected of handing information to a Russian diplomat, the Swedish Prosecution Authority said on Monday. The prosecutor said in a statement that the man, who was not identified, had worked as a consultant at several Swedish companies, where he had illegally obtained and sold information, placing the country's security at risk. Public service broadcaster SVT said the man was Swedish. "While a consultant at his former workplaces, I allege that he obtained material with the purpose of providing information to a foreign power, in this case Russia," prosecutor Mats Ljungqvist said. "The man was apprehended whilst meeting a Russian diplomat where he had just received 27,800 Swedish crowns ($3,360) from the diplomat." SVT reported that the man being charged had passed on information from automaker Volvo Cars and truckmaker Scania. A Scania spokesman confirmed that the man had worked as a consultant at the firm, while Volvo Cars declined to comment. The authority said the man had transferred material from computers to memory sticks as well as photographing the screen of his work computer, adding the crime could carry a sentence of up to six years in prison. "The crime is serious and, if convicted, the suspect could expect a lengthy sentence," Ljungqvist said.
Volvo begins rolling out over-the-air software updates in the U.S.
Mon, Nov 1 2021Volvo announced that two of its models are now compatible with over-the-air software updates. The electric XC40 Recharge and three versions of the XC60 are eligible to receive a variety of wireless changes including driving range improvements and small bug fixes. The Swedish firm published details about its over-the-air software updating system shortly after going public. It's compatible with the new Android-based infotainment system found in many of its cars, including the C40 Recharge unveiled in 2021, and it works a lot like the similar technology that your smartphone features in the sense that the software updates itself; there's no need to stop by a dealer or plug in a USB drive. When an update is ready, a message appears on the dashboard-mounted touchscreen asking motorists if they want to download it. Owners of compatible cars in the United States received their first over-the-air software update last week. Labeled version 1.7, it notably added SiriusXM satellite radio compatibility. Volvo also noted that the XC40 Recharge received additional driving range during the update. Looking ahead, Volvo plans to wirelessly add new features and enhancements to the infotainment system. Only some 2021 and 2022 models can receive over-the-air updates. As of writing, the list of compatible cars is limited to the aforementioned XC40 Recharge, the XC60, the XC60 Recharge, and the XC60 Polestar Engineered. It's reasonable to assume that the feature will spread across the range in the coming years as new models are launched. Sister company Polestar also offers over-the-air updates on the 2.
