Gorgeous ALL ORIGINAL, 2 Owner Volvo in Rare Color Combo

Here is a beautiful 1978 Volvo 245DL Wagon in awesome condition inside and out. This car is very special in several ways. It is a two female owner car which has always been garaged and well maintained. This low mileage Wagon comes in a beautiful Cherokee Red on red vinyl color scheme which really sets this vehicle off. These cars are few and far in between, especially in this condition. This is your chance to own a truly one of a kind automobile!

The car was bought new on 11-17-78 at Rock Road Motors of St. Louis, MO by Loretta Kelley and traveled only 11,000 miles while in her ownership, and was purchased out of her estate around 2001 by its second owners who retired to Tucson AZ around 2008 and brought Old Red with them. The previous owner took extensive care of the car and always garaged it over their 13 year love affair with this beauty. This car was her pride and joy and always received the best care and service at authorized Volvo shops. Don't miss your chance to own a very clean and solid '78 245DL.

The following is a list of options as this 245DL is currently equipped:

-Original 2.0L 4CYL Engine

-Optional 4 Speed Automatic Transmission

-Rare Ice Cold A/C

-Optional Roof Rack

-Original Volvo AM/FM Radio

-All 5 Matching Like New Bridgestone Tires

-Original Steel Wheels

The body on the car is in very good condition and was extremely well maintained. The paint on the car is finished in striking Cherokee Red and is in beautiful show condition. The paint is virtually perfect with only a few small chips as to be expected on a car that is meant to be driven. The car has been completely inspected underneath from front to back and is solid as a rock as any well cared for garaged car should be, and has never been in any accidents. The car is riding on original steel Volvo wheels and chrome trim rings with like new Bridgestone tires. All chrome trim is gorgeous, glass is all original, and rubber seals are in great shape.

The interior is all original condition all around. The dash is free of any cracks or fading. The rest of the interior is very nice condition with absolutely no cracks or damage. The supple red seats are all in very good condition and look like they have been very well preserved original examples. The carpets are all very nice are not worn or damaged and appear original. All dials and controls function as they should; all windows and rear hatch also are fully functional. All lights, gauges switches, and accessories work as they should. The trunk compartment is very clean and does have the original jack, the new matching spare tire and wheel which appear to never have touched the pavement! Also included is the original, complete, set of tools in bag!

Mechanically, this 245DL runs GREAT! The car starts right up and shifts smooth as silk. The 2.0L engine is very quick and responsive. It is reliable, easy to fix, and parts are readily available. The internal fuel pump was recently replaced along with the idle valve, in addition to a fresh radiator a couple years ago. The suspension is very tight and feels solid even at autobahn speeds above 70mph. The front rotors and brakes have been replaced followed by an alignment. The car was always regularly serviced and was indicated by the huge pile of receipts. The car just had the A/C serviced and had a tune-up!

The car also has manuals, service books, tool kit, and original Arizona copper plates!

All in all, this is one of the neatest Volvos that I have had the privilege of being associated with. It has been professionally maintained and truly loved by its previous owners. This 245DL is a fantastic car for the price. This is your chance to get a classic Volvo, which will only go up in value. The car also has a clean Arizona Title. Any further questions please call Jon at 480-703-2337. The car is located in Sunny Scottsdale, Arizona.

Volvo demos autonomous self-parking car concept

Thu, 20 Jun 2013

A number of companies are developing autonomous vehicle technology - Google and Audi come to mind - but Volvo is applying its work in the area to a particular usage case: parking. The Swedish automaker has the technology up and running in a concept vehicle, which it says can be dropped off at the curb by its owner and left to its own devices to enter and navigate a car park, then find and park in an available parking spot. Volvo says the process can even be reversed when the owner is ready to go, with the car leaving the car park on its own to meet its key-holder again at the curb.
The vehicle first interacts with Vehicle 2 Infrastructure technology, which places transmitters in the road itself to inform the car (and driver) if the self-parking service is available. The driver then hops out, activates the Self Parking function on his or her smartphone and then leaves the car to do its work. The car uses sensors, all seemingly hidden from view (an advancement of its own in this field), to autonomously navigate the car park, which includes interacting and adjusting to other cars, people and objects.
The technology used here builds off of Volvo's other work in autonomous vehicle research, namely the Safe Road Trains for the Environment (SARTRE) project in which the company managed to create a train of four cars autonomously following a lead truck at speeds up 56 miles per hour. Volvo says the first application of its autonomous research in a production vehicle will happen at the end of 2014 with some level of autonomous steering available in the next-generation XC90. See the system in action by watching the video below.

New Volvo ad remembers the joy of rear-facing jump seats

Mon, 19 May 2014

With the rise in popularity of first the minivan and later the crossover as the default family vehicle, there have been about 20 years of children who have missed out on the joy of rear-facing jump seats in station wagons. It means kids today don't know the pleasure to be found in making faces or lewd gestures at other drivers while their parents can't see. Plus, they don't know the slightly nauseous feeling of watching the world pass by in reverse. However, a group of filmmakers look back with nostalgia at this increasingly uncommon automotive feature in a new ad for the 2015 Volvo V60.
As part of its sponsorship of the National Film Festival for Talented Youth, Volvo commissions a team each year to create an advertisement to be shown during the festival. This year's shows how the company's buyers have gone from riding in the back to driving the brand's cars. Scroll down to check out the charming ad, along with some wistful looks at classic Volvo wagons, before the jump seat is forgotten.

Junkyard Gem: 1984 Volvo 242 DL

Sun, Aug 30 2020

Volvo had tremendous success with the iconic 200 Series cars, selling them in North America from the 1975 model year all the way through 1993 (and if you count the Volvo 140, which was the same car from the A pillars rearward, the 240's history goes back to the middle 1960s). Nearly everybody who bought 240s on our continent did so in order to be safe and/or practical, which meant that the two-door version never sold anywhere near as well as its four-door and wagon brethren. Here's one of those rare 240 coupes (technically speaking, a two-door sedan), found in a San Jose car graveyard last winter. If you're going to be a stickler about the designation of this car as a two-door sedan and not as a coupe, you'll also want to call it by the name Volvo used when it was in the showroom: the 1984 Volvo DL. However, everybody in the Volvo world now prefers the original naming system that Volvo used for the 200s back home in Sweden, where you had 2 followed by a numeral indicating the number of engine cylinders and a numeral indicating the number of doors, with the trim-level code after that. So, what we have for today's Junkyard Gem is a Volvo 242 DL, i.e., the cheapest new 240 Americans could buy in 1984. You could get a turbocharged engine from the factory in the 1984 242, but this car has the ordinary naturally-aspirated 2.3-liter straight-four, rated at 111 horsepower. It also has the four-speed manual transmission with overdrive controlled by the button in the middle of the shift knob. Nearly 230,000 miles on the clock, which is decent for any 1980s car but not spectacular by Volvo 240 standards. Many Volvo enthusiasts prefer the smooth lines of the coupe to the stodgier sedans and wagons, and this one shows signs of ownership by someone who wasn't just about listening to NPR while driving safely to the natural-foods store. Sure enough, it has aftermarket springs and a non-factory rear sway bar. I wish I'd found these parts back in 2007, when I was helping to build a V8-swapped Volvo 244 road racer. The presence of the keys in a junkyard car, however, usually indicates that it was voluntarily let go by its final owner. Perhaps it was a dealership trade-in that proved to be impossible to sell due to a combination of three pedals, high miles, and lack of truck-shaped body. The interior looks like it might have been tolerable before it reached this place.
