'88 Metallic Blue, 5 Speed Manual Transmission, 138,000 Miles, Very Clean on 2040-cars
Harrison, New York, United States
Car starts every time, runs well, no smoke or colored exhaust. I put about 12K miles on the car since I bought it in March '13 from Oskuie Service Center, Inc who specialize in Volvos. I have used Mobil One oil and changed the oil every 3K. Fun car to drive. I had a 242GT when I was in High School and College and I bought this as a project. I have really enjoyed this car, but my kids have been giving me grief about driving an "old car." When I bought it, I thought my son, who turns 16 next month, would really like to drive it - but he is doesn't get it. What I have done (about 6.5K in total invested): New Voxx wheel and Michelin Primacy MXV4 (195/60 HR 15) tires in April '13 (approximately 12K on them). New Michelin X-Ice Xi3 snow tires used only winter 13/14. New Kenwood KDC-BT755HD car radio with Pioneer Speakers - bluetooth radio with remote, SeriusXM and Pandora. Car re-sprayed factory Metallic Dark Blue in April '13. New alternator in June '13. New spare tire March '13.
Issues: The a/c stopped working last summer. A/c was serviced and converted to r134a before I bought the car. I don't know what it will take to get it working. Never brought the car in to get an estimate. Drove back from the Cape last December in a nasty rain storm and had an issue with the engine hesitating at a certain rpm. After I got home, I changed the spark plugs and the car ran fine. Since then I have noticed a couple of hesitations - nothing that disables the car or causes it to stall. It is like a hiccup every once in a while. Driver's front seat adjustment large knob off - can use the small knob to adjust seat. Missing the coin tray between seats but I have used that space as a cup holder for coffee/drinks. |

Volvo: Tesla's Autopilot is just a 'wannabe'
Fri, Apr 29 2016Using the words "unsupervised wannabe" in an interview with The Verge, Volvo's Trent Victor says the Tesla Autopilot is "giving the impression it's doing more than it is." According to Victor, Tesla's self-driving tech is merely appearing to be autonomous because, with the Tesla system, the driver has to be fully alert all the time, ready to regain control. Tesla says its system is Level 2 autonomous, although some experts regard it as Level 3, which means it takes over safety-critical functions from the driver. Volvo says it pays more attention to actual crash avoidance, and that its Drive Me system is Level 4 autonomous, meaning that in the event of a hazardous situation the vehicle will handle the appropriate procedures and bring itself to a halt in a safe fashion. There will be no need for the driver to take action, which is important in case the driver has been incapacitated while the Drive Me autopilot has been controlling the car. Another thing with the Volvo setup is that it monitors the road in case of a conflict situation, or someone suddenly appearing in front of the car, be it a pedestrian or a runaway child. Tesla has never said that its Autopilot is anything other than a beta version under trial usage. It costs $2,500 when you purchase your Model 2 or X, or $3,000 as a add-on once you've taken delivery. The company also just announced that it would offer Autopilot for free as part of a one-month trial. Tesla declined to comment on Volvo's comment. Volvos will brake for bicyclists with new detection technology
Thu, 07 Mar 2013Anyone who pedals a bicycle knows that one of the biggest dangers to riders is a motorized vehicle - Volvo estimates that nearly 50 percent of all cyclists killed in European traffic have collided with a car. In the United States alone, 618 riders lost their lives in bicycle/motor vehicle crashes in 2010, and the number of injuries surpassed 52,000.
To help drop those numbers, Volvo has just announced Cyclist Detection with full auto brake - a technology that detects and automatically applies a vehicle's brakes when a cyclist swerves in front of a moving car. The basic components of the system include a radar unit integrated into the front grille, a camera fitted in front of the interior rear-view mirror and a central control unit. The radar is tasked with seeing obstacles in front of the vehicle and calculating distance, while the camera is responsible to determine what the object is. The central control unit, with rapid processing capabilities, monitors and evaluates the situation.
The technology, which will be sold bundled with its Pedestrian Detection and called Pedestrian and Cyclist Detection, will automatically apply full braking when both the radar and camera confirm a pedestrian or cyclist are in the immediate path of the vehicle. According to the automaker, the technology will be offered on the Volvo V40, S60, V60, XC60, V70, XC70 and S80 models from mid-May in 2013.
Volvo releases extensive model updates for 2014
Tue, 19 Feb 2013The 2014 model year is going to see big changes for the Volvo lineup. The biggest news is that the "60 cluster" models (the S60, V60 and XC60) are receiving some substantial updates despite not being all that old, and Volvo is also refreshing the S80, V70 and XC70 models. Of course, the 2014 model year also marks the departure of the C30 and C70 from its lineup, and we still have at least a year to wait until we see the redesigned XC90.
Except for the XC90, all of the 2014 Volvos will be getting noticeable design updates. The S60, V60 and XC60 get more in-depth changes, including a full front facelift. All will use an evolution of the "naughty" design that debuted on the S60. The rear of all three cars get some changes, too, most notably consisting of the reshaped rear fascia with the integrated exhaust outlets. S80, V70 and XC70 will get more minor changes - mostly to bring them in line with the fresher models. The XC70 keeps is rugged plastic cladding, but it gets some stylish wheels with what look like arrowhead accents.
Inside, all of these updated models will new in-car technology such as the Sensus Connected Touch infotainment system and the adaptive digital display with a TFT (thin film transistor) screen. This reconfigurable screen allows the driver to choose between three different themes - Elegance, Eco and Performance - which changes the color and layout of the background. Other new features include heated windshields, Active High Beam Control for the headlights, paddle shifters for a little added driver involvement and IntelliSafe active safety systems (City Safety, Pedestrian Detection and Road Sign Information) The S80, V70 and XC70 will also add heated steering wheels to their respective options sheets, too.
