A can of matching touch-up paint is included. All seals (with exception of all the glass) was replaced and all stock/factory components were re-installed. Interior: Stock All seat upholstery was re-upholstered to factory black. Optional rear seat arm-rest installed. New carpet kit installed including rear package shelf. Original door panels re-installed. Stock dash and gauges remain. Center speaker and radio with DIN connector to headphone jack installed. Overview Much of this car did not require maintenance as it began with a nice low-milage car. Anything that was missing from the project was replaced with an exact donor car from Arizona - making it very correct and complete. I have been driving the car for over a year as my daily driver (over 8000 miles with only minor issues) and it's been incredibly reliable, comfortable and fun. I have done my best to maintain it and keep it tuned-up and clean since driving it to Austin from Indiana, where the restoration work was done. Now, the BAD news: As I was preparing to sell the car last week, a rod in the engine broke. The car drove a very short distance with the (assumed) broken rod and was towed back to my home. Had this problem not occurred, I would be asking for twice the price of the car. The car has held up so well until now and I just can't take on the additional cost and keep this car as my daily driver. The engine will need to be rebuilt because of this problem -- it is not currently in drivable condition. Without taking the engine apart, I can not be sure what the problem is, but it will need to be fixed before the car can be back on the road. I can attest that the car was driving perfectly fine up until that moment, just three days ago (3/22/14). Rather than have the car fixed myself, I figured someone with the right tools might take advantage of my disadvantage and be able to turn the car around, or be able to own one of these for half the price. Other known issues: -- There is a very slow transmission leak. I had it repaired, but it is something to be aware of. An eye should always be kept on a VW oil level and on the trans oil level as well. It has not caused any problems and the trans oil level has always been full on this car. -- Front hood latch -- the lever to open the front hood has become stretched a bit and needs to be tightened. This is a new bug that just occurred as well. -- Radio -- The radio is a bit buggy and tends to short out. It's a great addition to the car, but a replacement might help the bugginess if it continues. Other Pluses: -- Texas Registration good thru 2/15 -- Including copies of the John Muir book and the hardcover Bentley guide for Type 3's. -- Including other spare parts with car - oil gaskets, belt, additional modulator valve. |

Volkswagen unveils sportier Passat Performance Concept ahead of Detroit debut
Fri, 11 Jan 2013Ahead of its official unveiling at next week's Detroit Auto Show, Volkswagen has released some preliminary details and images of its Passat Performance Concept - a car that, as its name suggests, adds a little more spice to the automaker's midsize sedan formula. VW makes no mention of any production intent for this road-ready-looking sedan, simply stating that the Performance Concept is a way to "explore this practical four-door's sportier side."
It certainly doesn't look too sporty, the only visual upgrades being larger 19-inch wheels, dual exhaust, bi-xenon headlamps with VW's Advanced Front Lighting system, LED taillmaps and carbon-look mirror caps. Inside, there are carbon interior accents and two-tone leather upholstery. But no matter, the real upgrades for this mightier Passat are found below the sheetmetal.
Powering the Performance Concept is a 1.8-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, churning out 250 horsepower and sending its grunt to the ground via a six-speed automatic transmission. For reference, that's 80 more horsepower than the Passat's base 2.5-liter inline-five, but 20 horsepower less than the potent 3.6-liter VR6. As for other performance upgrades, Volkswagen has fitted the car with a lowered sport suspension and revamped electronic steering, which should indeed add a bit more dynamic feedback to the already nice-driving sedan.
Next-gen Volkswagen Golf R spied while running the 'Ring
Tue, 16 Apr 2013The launch of a new Volkswagen Golf is never a small thing, and things are already looking up for the subcompact hatchback after it was named 2013 World Car of the Year. While we've already seen the base and GTI versions of the next-generation Golf, now we're getting our first look at the sportier Golf R.
Although this prototype wears GTI lettering on the front fenders, it's more than just the roll cage and Sparco racing seat hinting that this is something a little more serious. Unlike the Golf and GTI, this car shows that the Golf R will continue to flaunt massive air intakes on each side of the fascia, and the rear of the car (though it's hard to see) has quadruple exhaust outlets. We still don't have an official word on power, but rumors indicate that the next Golf R could be pushing close to 300 horsepower, making it the most powerful production Golf ever. As much fun as we had during our first drive of the Golf R Cabriolet in the cold, snowy French Riviera last month, more power is a warming idea.
VW announces reworked 6.0 W12 TSI engine
Mon, May 11 2015Nobody makes more engines with a dozen cylinders than the Volkswagen Group. They're W12s, of course, owing to the novel shape of their cylinder banks. Now the German industrial giant has announced a comprehensively reworked version of that engine at the same Vienna Motor Symposium where it presented its new 2.0-liter turbo four. The new W12 retains the same arrangement and the same 6.0-liter displacement, but updates it all with the latest powertrain tech. In place of Audi's FSI direct injection and Bentley's TMPI multi-point injection, the engine has adopted a new TSI system. It's also got a pair of new twin-scroll turbochargers, APS-coated cylinders, a new cooling system, active engine mounts, cylinder deactivation, and a stop/start system. And – crucially for application in the upcoming Bentayga – it has an oil circuit designed for off-road use. The revised package now produces 600 horsepower and 664 pound-feet of torque. Considerably more than the 567 hp and 516 lb-ft offered in the Bentley Continental GT W12, but less than the GT Speed, which we suspect will get an even more powerful version of this new engine. It's also more powerful than even the top version of Audi and Bentley's 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8, to make the W12 a more compelling option. Of course that's just as far as the Continental GT is concerned. The W12 has also found use in the Continental GTC and Flying Spur, as well as the Volkswagen Phaeton and Audi A8, and could find further applications under the Flying B emblem and elsewhere in the future. VW says that in the right application (say, in the production version of the Bentley EXP 10 Speed 6 concept, for example), the new twelve-pot could deliver 0-62 times of under four seconds and a top speed in excess of 186 miles per hour. Volkswagen at the 36th International Vienna Motor Symposium Dr. Heinz-Jakob Neusser: "The car of the future will continue to fascinate people" - CO2 reduction, electromobility and digitalisation are the greatest challenges facing the automotive industry - The future of the internal combustion engine will be characterised by high rpm diesel and high-performance three-cylinder TSI engines - Laser roughening – innovative coating process in large-scale production - New 6.0 W12 TSI with 447 kW (608 PS) – performance and refinement - New generation of EU6 TDI engines for light-duty vehicles Dr.
